Ireland 2024

We just returned from our Ireland Adventure and i can echo everything Golf4Food said about the trip. We loved every bit of it. I think we had 32 guests, with 10 under 18. Our 7 year old grandson was the youngest. Stephen and Gabby were our guides and Joe was our amazing bus driver. It rained moana of the mornings but cleared. Temps were mostly in the 60s. when it got to 74 and sunny in Dublin, some locals were complaining about the heat. A number of places we visited had a lot of stairs but there were accommodations for people who had some limits with walking. i did a daily blog with photos of the trip which contains a few spoilers so be forewarned anselm.blog All 5 of us in our group highly recommend the Ireland ABD.

@minie_meese: Thanks for your report with all the photos and videos! Looks like a great trip.

I never realized that the airports in Ireland have preclearance facilities so that when your flight lands in the US, it is treated like a domestic flight. Making connections is much easier if you don't have to go through customs upon arrival in the US. I only experienced that in Canadian airports and didn't know that a few other airports also offer that.

Hi everyone, we are seriously considering the trip for next year. Only concern is our youngest will be 6, oldest 8. Any feedback for them? Thanks!

What a magical adventure! We just returned from our Ireland ABD Adults Only trip. There were 36 of us, mostly middle age couples (40s to 60s) with a few people younger or older, a single traveler and an all adult family group thrown in. Gabby (US) and Leisha (Dubliner) were extraordinary guides!! Bernard was our incredible driver. I debated doing a full trip report, but I really don't want to spoil surprises for future adventurers. Decisive to say we were treated like royalty during our entire trip and it was phenomenal. You will love it if you travel to Ireland.

While our trip was adult only, our guides would comment on things that children would do. Some of the history maybe a little boring for children. There are a few longer bus rides as you travel down the southern end of Ireland, but kids might enjoy some of the castle ruins we toured. The adult activities were awesome at Dromoland Castle so I can only imagine that they have special ones for the kids as well. Kids will love the farm visit.

Coming from Phoenix we loved the 50 and 60 degree weather. We only got rained on once during a tour, otherwise we were riding on the bus when it rained.

Please feel free to ask any questions you might have and I will try my best to answer them.

What style are you looking for, and how do the other ones you've tried fit?

For something waterproof, I use Merrell hiking boots, but I know there are better looking options out there for a city tour.

On the tour you will do a fair amount of urban walking as well as through wooded trails and unpaved ruins.

I took 2 pairs of waterproof sneakers. One was an ON waterproof sneaker and the 2nd was a pair of Columbia water proof trail sneakers. The OC sneakers were great for walking around Dublin, but I primarily used my Columbia sneakers for the rest of the tour.

My DH almost exclusively wore an ON waterproof sneaker for all surfaces.

Gabby was our guide in August. I totally agree. She was wonderful. She is also great with kids. We've done adults only and family ABDs, Both are terrific. We are planning our next.
