We have 5 phones, 3 androids and 2 blackberries on sprint, now they announce their getting the iphone and this might push me over the edge, my contract is not up till next Oct. but my husbands is up as of Oct 1st. I regret getting my last blackberry because my daughters evo is so cool but I never cared that much about phones so I would just keep it and make due till next year. My husband intended on getting the evo but now doesn't know what to do.

Now the question is what's better the iphone or the android phones?

I'm sure their are pros and cons to both but what are they?

Thanks

You are going to get different opinions here to be sure. My personal pick is android. There are more free apps to be had, and i think they are just all around easier to use. My biggest deciding factor however, was availiblity of unlimited data. Every carrier that has picked up iphone so far has immediately increased the pricing for thier data pchages, and eliminated unlimited data entirely. We stuck with a carrier that has android AND unlimted data. We are with cspire (was Cellular South) and pay $130 a month for unlimited everything on two lines.

I am in the same boat...DD needs a new phone, looking at the iPhone. DS and I have first gen EVOs from last year. I LOVE mine. College girls next door have iPhones, and they love them, think it is a matter of what you like and how you will use them...
I like that I don't pay for apps. Amazon has a free app of the day, and I have got some great ones from there, free, of course! Girls next door pay for their apps, not sure if it is cause of what they want,or why.
I never get an app that costs more $$ each month.
Learning curve on my EVO was low. iPhone? no idea, hope someone lets you/us know soon!

People are going to have their opinions, and a lot of it is emotional. My Dh and I have Android, DD16 has an iPhone, and really, they all work and do what they're supposed to do.

We have 3 iPhones and 1 Android in our house. I prefer the iPhone, it just seems more user friendly. My daughter is the one with the Android. She loves it just as much as we love our iPhones. Really the best thing you can do is go into a store and actually play around with the different phones and see what suits you best.

You will definately get many opinions on this!! I had the android and went to an iphone and love, love, love the iphone. Wouldn't switch back to a droid at all!! Good luck with your decision.

There are hundreds of thousands of free apps for both phones. The number of apps is a non-issue. The differences lie in the lay-out and organisation of your features. Just like another poster above suggested, go play with both. I have been using computers and smart[hones for years. Loved my blackberry, liked my windows smartphone, hated the android OS, LOVED the iphone. I didn't even consider an iPhone until I purchased an iPad. Learning curve was ZERO... I knew then I needed an iPhone. I get a discount through my employer for Verizon so I had to wait until it was available earlier this year. Now we have three.

It seems sprint is going to be the first to have unlimited data but hard to tell from their website how much the family plan is for 5 phones but I did see the family plan we have is $129.99 then $19.99 for 3rd-5th phone with the iphone it looks like our same plan is $149.99 and I couldn't find anywhere how much their going to charge for the 3rd-5th phone. But I am also paying an extra $10 per android phone for premium data charge which might be built in on the iphone at least that's how I interpreted it.

In other words the cost might drive me towards the android phones.

Dh and I both have EVOs and we love them. I have friends with iPhones and they love them too. One of the things that drove me to Android over iPhone was the free Google cloud. With Apple you pay for your mobile Me stuff like calendar and email and with my Android the Google calendar and Gmail is free and all integrated seamlessly. I also have an iPod shuffle and just got sick of dealing the the horrible iTunes interface. I use Amazon for all of my music purchases now and I'm super happy...plus now they have the cloud for storage and you just download whatever you want to your device.

One other thing to note is that I run with my EVO using an app called Endomondo. My firend and running buddy also runs with Endomondo on her iPhone. Often her GPS isn't as accurate as mine and so far we haven't figured out how to tweak her GPS settings like I can with mine (how frequently it pings). That wouldn't matter to many people, but if you plan to run or bike with it that might make a difference to you.

Best of luck in your decision!

Can you tell me why you love the iphone so much more, what didn't you like about the android phone.
Thanks

Love my iphone. I used to always switch out my phones-but I am happy with my iphone. Very easy to use and reliable.

I considered getting an iPhone when we switched earlier, but I am so glad we didn't. Dha nd I have EVO's, I have the 4G and he has the Shift 4G and we are very happy with them. What I didn't like about the iPhone is all the updating thru the computer like I hav eto do with my iPod, which isn't that big of a deal, but would annoy me with a phone.

We pay 129.99/mo for unlimited everything, and they add $10 to each for Premium Data, with my employer discount, my bill is about $135 a month, unless DH buys some kind of wall paper or something, which cost of the time is $0.99.

I haven't even raised an eyebrow at the iPhone coming to Sprint, I am addicted to my EVO. I was one tha tused to really only wnat a phone to make a few calls, but now tha tI have my EVO, I can't go anywhere without it. I still don't make many calls, but I text, e-mail, and facebook alot. I am looking forward to our next Disney trip with it, I didn't have it last time we went.

I was never big on Apple until the iTouch came out. DD wanted one and we went to the apple store and after playing on one I ended up with one too. The iPhone is very similar to the iTouch so I would recommend going to an apple store if you have one near you and checking it out. They may have the phones in there too now. Its been awhile since we've been to one.

As far as Android phones. Where I work we get new phones in all the time and I've tried prob a half dozen different android phones and have yet to find one that I really really liked. Yes they have lots of options and work well but just the set up of them and how you navigate to things just didn't impress me. I am currently using a Windows phone that I like much more than any android I've used and am hoping to upgrade to the iPhone 4 by the end of this year :-)

Really, Its all just a matter of preference.

I was a 10 Year blackberry guy, thought the smart phone touch screens were toys and not work friendly enough. Have had an iPad since christmas last year, it's a toy not a work device.

I got a droid based (incredable2) had it for a day. If you use google based everything (mail / calendar / notes etc.) it's great, seamless untill you want to pair it with outlook, then it sucks.

I avoided the iPhone cause I was convinced it was not "work friendly" enough. I was wrong, seamless communication with outlook was up and running in 15 minutes of getting it home. It's still not as good as a blackberry, but the blackberry I want does not exsist yet.

I held out for so long on the apple products. As a gift I got an imac. I then got an iphone, ipod, ipad and another imac. I am hooked forever. The products are amazing and nothing comes close. NOTHING. :yay:

My mom is horrible with technology. HORRIBLE. My 81 year old Grandma is better than my mom when it comes to technology. :rolleyes1

I convinced her to get the Iphone. She had minimal experience using my dad's Ipad and I promised her it was the same- easy.

She has asked 2 questions since she first got it. She loves it. Aside from some bizarre text messages at first due to predictive spelling, it's been issue free. :rotfl:

I was waiting for the Iphone 5 but I'll just have to settle for the 4s ;)

My boss just recently switched from an iPhone to a Droid (I have a droid).

His main (and only that I can tell) knock on the droid...

The iPhone has a single button (Home)... one you can find by feel. The Droid's have 'Menu', 'Home', 'Back', and 'Search'.

I like the customization you can do on the droid... you can change the look of your screen (I'm not talking about just changing the background). I like the google interaction (I work with google docs... the droid allows me to edit them, an iphone doesn't).

I've had this discussion recently with a friend of mine. It all depends on what you like and how technical or geeky you want to be. Bff is all about apple she has a mac an ipad and an iphone. She loves them they work well she doesn't have to do anything and everything is integrated. I have a hplaptop a touchpad and an evo. I'll fess up I do have an ipod but it doesn't get used much since I also have xm radio. I like being able to play with my phone I and I'm probably a bit more geeky. I like my unlimited data plan and I like that I was able to get my phone to let me tether for free. Ultimately get what your going to be comfortable using.

I think it is a personal preference thing, but for me it is iPhone all the way. I have had both. I got a Droid so I could be on Verizon, it did a good job, but I missed the iPhone a lot. I finally got one when they came to Verizon, it was expensive to rid myself of the Droid and get the iPhone, but I was soooooo happy to be back with the iPhone.

I have had both and I like both. I have a Samsung Galaxy S (Captivate) right now but I put in my pre-order for the iPhone4S this morning. The new Samsung Galaxy S 2 is out now and if I were sticking with Android that's the one I would get. iPhones are a bit easier to use in my opinion. Androids can be a bit more complicated and technical.
