If the iPad turns out to be a load of nonsense (please no!) I'll be looking at an unlocked iPhone 3GS.

To those who have iPhones, what do you think of them?

Ta!

Great selection of games and apps. Pathetic battery life. Mediocre browser and e-mail client. Obnoxious restrictions on loading apps, music, and videos. You have to do it through their store or on one computer and only through iTunes. Because of the tight control, you can't load a replacement e-mail client or choose your browser. Jailbreaking can get around some of these limitations.

I posted on another thread that if the house were burning down and I only had time to save my husband or my iphone, my husband had better hope he can get himself out cuz I'd be taking the phone.

I do agree with PP on the battery life.

I keep tossing my Blackberry out into traffic in the hopes that it'll finally die so my husband will get me an iPhone. I love his.

BUT, if I had my druthers (which I don't because we aren't Verizon customers and can't switch to them for a long time), I'd get the Motorola Droid. It is NICE. It has the touch screen and a keyboard. A friend of mine has it and I've been drooling over it ever since she got it.

Pakey, I thought you said you weren't funny??!!
:rotfl:

We are Verizon customers, and we got the Droid HTC Eris for Christmas. I returned it today. It froze all the time, and I would have to remove the battery to get it to restart. Ridiculous. Imagine your computer on its slowest, worse day and that's the Droid.
To me, it was all too daunting for a phone. I like my phones simple I guess!
I'm sure the iPhone is much different and my husband and I would love to try that out!!!
We thought about switching to AT&T, but would like to have a better reason other than wanting an iPhone!

Out of curiosity, "mediocre" compared to what? Not trying to be a wisea**, but the browser on the iPhone is far superior to any other cell phone broswer I've ever used. Granted, my smartphone experience is limited to the BlackBerry Curve and Bold and my iPhone, but OMG, how it blows away the BB browser. There is absolutely no comparison whatsoever. My Bold's browser rarely loaded pages correctly (if it loaded them at all...it often locked up or spontaneously killed the process) and was one of the HUGE reasons I jumped ship on iPhone launch day this past June.

I have a jailbroken (but not unlocked--AT&T service is exceptional everywhere I am) iPhone 3GS and I adore it. I'm a nerd about stuff like this, so I had a LOT of fun once I jailbroke. I love being able to tweak basically every aspect of the UI to my little heart's delight. :lovestruc

I know it's yet another rumor and therefore nothing to bank on by any means, but the latest rumor has it that the iPhone may be available on Verizon this June. Or you could always check ebay for unlocked iPhones, but you'll pay way more than a pretty penny for those.

I truly LOVE my iPhone. I fell in love with it when I played with my df's cousin's iPhone. I also made sure to buy the df one since I'd never see mine again if I didn't.

The tablet (I think they're calling it iSlate maybe?) is pretty much confirmed, so you should have nothing to worry about. Should be announced next week. I go to www.macrumors.com quite a bit to get most of my Apple info.

And BTW - the order of rescue in my burning house goes: cat, iPhone, spouse!

Sold my Blackberry Curve for an iphone best choice ever!! the iphone is awesome! i have at least 10 pages of apps now, i must say the battery life is pretty poor but i dont have any problems with running out of battery.

I much preferred browsing on my BB. I used Opera as my primary browser. It reformats pages so that they work much better on mobile devices. The iPhone browser is nice for pages designed for it, but I find the constant scrolling left and right for wide pages on the iPhone a big nuisance.

Another thing I preferred about BB browsing was that it multi-tasked. I could be reading e-mail while my browser was downloading a page. With my iPhone I have to wait, and wait, and wait, and wait. I have a second generation and it is painfully slow. Even worse, it doesn't appear to cache at all, so whenever I go back, it has to reload the whole page again.

Fix these few things and I'll love my iPhone:

1) Multi-tasking (multiple browser pages loading at once or while I'm reading e-mail)

2) Allow me to load apps and media from any machine without going through iTunes

3) Allow me to choose what apps I can run

4) Allow me to easily replace the battery (I could live with the pathetic battery life if I could swap the batteries)

5) A menu button so that apps can be more flexible. It's gen 3 and I still don't have the ability to make a block of e-mail messages as "read" or change the sort order for my e-mail.
