iPhone or Droid?

Ok, so I've been wanting an iPhone to come to Verizon for forever. Now that it's here and I am about 99% set on getting one I'm almost having second thoughts. I've heard wonderful things about the Droid phones. I guess I"m looking for some input on both. Thanks!

My college age daughter had the same dilemma recently. The ATT rep we had asked her about her music. She actually has like 7,000 songs on her ipod.

He told us that each one of the songs would have to be individually converted to a MP3 before loading to a droid.

We ended up buying an iphone 4 for her and me. It actually works out better since my sister, my brother who lives in NYC, and now my mom all have the same phone. We can face talk and it is cool.

Good luck with your decision. I find the I4 easy to use and I am not very good at these things.

If the actual phone function is most important to you, get the Droid.

Do a Google search for the pros and cons of each. You will find a great deal of information.

Well I love my ipod and I love my Droid. :) My best advice is check out the reviews of both on CNET.com and decide which is right for you. Some things Droid does better, some things the iphone does better. Personally, I prefer the Droid because I like open source apps etc. However, as in the case of the PP, the iphone made more sense for her. Just depends on whatcha wanna do with it :thumbsup2

I love my Android (HTC Evo) and I didn't have to individually convert all of my iTunes songs or anything like that. I think there are myths around to scare people. I can't remember exactly how I saved them over to my Android at this moment, but I remember it being way easier than anticipated. I'm pretty sure I just plugged my phone into the PC as an external drive and dragged them over.

I had been on the fence as well when the iphone 4 came out because we were with Virginmobile pay as you go and weren't attached to any carrier...Dh and I both got our Evo's after a lot of research and we couldn't be happier (well, if they never ran out of batteries and delivered fresh coffee we would be :rotfl: )

I'm an iPhone user who's coming up on my 2 yr upgrade. I decided I wanted to go a different route and get an Android phone this time. But after researching and trying them out in the store, i've decided to get an iPhone 4. I didn't find a single phone that I liked as much as my iPhone.

I didn't really care which I got - they both have lots of nice features and deal with communicating well. My daughter wanted the iPhone for music reasons but she got impatient. I kept telling her that I was reading on Bloomberg that it was coming to Verizon since switching to AT&T wasn't an option - they don't have service where we live. She didn't believe me. So by Christmas I finally said the heck with it and we upgraded our phones to smart phones - she has the HTC Incredible and I have the Samsung Fascinate. We like our phones. Of course Verizon announced the Iphone a week later.
Told her she'd better like her Incredible because she won't be eligible for another upgrade for two years!

Thanks everyone for your responses. I have an iPod touch now so am familiar with the apps, etc. Since I do have the iPod and have all the apps and music I think I will be getting the iPhone. I would also like an iPad:rolleyes1 so want to keep everything along the same lines, so to speak.

I would maybe wait on the Iphone 4 from Verizon... There are a lot of things it CAN'T do that the ATT Iphone can. I read an article that said you can only use the phone or the internet at one time. (so you can't take a call and look up a restaurant like in the commercials.) Plus, there will probably be a new iphone out this summer. That being said I have the Iphone 3GS and I love it. My husband had the Iphone 3G and recently switched to the Samsung Captivate, and he loves it!

I have read this as well, but how many times does someone do this? really? For me, that is not a deal breaker. As much as I want to get one when they come out, I don't know what features the new phone will have, and if Verizon will get the new version.

iPhone but on ATT. Why you ask? The verizon iPhone will NOT use the new 4g network that the new droids are using, but rather the 3g... why does that matter? Well you can not do two things at once.... with at&t you can. I guess its not that big a deal but from what i read it will cost more on verizon for less features.

It also sucks because if you online the phone goes RIGHT to voice mail!

Well, I actually do! :) Another thought, usually they lower the price of the older phone when the new one comes out. You're right though, there is no way to know if Verizon will get the newest phone. Good luck either way.

I just have to toss this out, because it makes me nuts every time I see it... The Droid is one specific model of phone, that runs on the ANdroid platform, like many many other phones. :)

/PSA off :thumbsup2

We went back and forth, and settled on the samsung captivate. Dh and I are both very happy with them! The main reason we chose the android over iphone is because we couldn't get the protection plan with the iphone, and with 6 kids that isn't an option. And FTR, we are very familiar with the ipod touch/iphone, and we weren't at all familiar with the android platform.

This is absolutely not true. I have a Motorola Droid Global and an iPod Touch. I used a free droid app called DoubleTwist and loaded ALL of my songs from my iTunes onto my Droid in less than 1/2 hour (including installing the program and syncing with my phone)!

Best of luck with your decision!

LOVE my droid. I ahve an HTC Desire, and couldn't be happier. I jsut couldn't stomach the cost associated with ihpone. We are paying less now for 2 droids with Cellular South than we were for 2 non-smartphones with ATT. We had a minimal data plan and no tecting with ATT, and we got the same amount of minutes, plus unlimited texting and data for about $10 a month less. If we had satyed with ATT and went to ihpones it would have been $50 a month more. It looks like verizion is going to be no better. All of their rate plans are going up and they are ending early upgrades.

I'm loving my Android! I have a HTC Incredible. We have Ipods here, so I did want the Iphone, but I still use my Ipod in the car and Pandora on my phone. Seems like I get a lot more free apps then dd can for her Ipod touch. I didn't want to spend that much on something I might lose or break.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. My ATT contract is almost up, and I thought I would switch to Verizon and get the iphone4. However, after checking out the DroidX, I'm considering switching to that.

However, what is the difference between the DroidX and the HTC Incredible? The DroidX costs about $199 and the HTC Incredible is free! They look very similar.

With the DroidX, can you be on the internet and get an incoming call without it going to voicemail? Is it true that the iphone4 will go straight to voicemail if you are on the internet? On the ATT iphone, I can be on the internet and take an incoming call. That would be a deal breaker for me as I wouldn't want to miss a call if I was reading facebook or other news apps, or on youtube, etc.

In my 2 years of having an iphone, I've never needed to be on the internet and on a phone call at the same time, so I'm surprised to see people make such a big deal out of it. I guess I never knew I could do it, so I didn't miss it:)

The DroidX looked pretty cool actually, and I can watch flash video on the internet. With Apple, you can't watch flash video (on the iphone, ipad, etc.) at all.

So, I guess my main question is, how do the DroidX and HTC Incredible differ?

Thanks so much!
