iPhone or Droid?

Just going to toss this out there, too...Verizon's "4G" network isn't truly 4G. My Dad is an expert in the telecom industry and we just has this conversation over the holidays. He gave me the technical rundown, but in my head, that's pretty much like Charlie Brown's teacher...wah-wah-wha-wha...it did turn into a conversation about ethics and false advertising, however.

Your Dad may not be the expert you thought. He is wrong, and is probably using an online article he read as his basis. I've been working on the creation of 4G networks for 6 years now. Verizon's 4G is truly 4G. Recently a UN group announced the technology behind Verizon and all the other carriers wasn't real 4G. This is like AAA announcing that all Fords aren't considered cars. It doesn't make it true.

This same UN based group back pedaled and corrected themselves and admitted to being wrong and gave the Verizon technology the designation 4G. Not that anyone in the industry cares about what some obscure UN panel announced. It also isn't news worthy to mention the retraction, so the popular technology blogs didn't run that part.

Just quoting the part i wanted to comment on. the verizon iphone won't be able to take a call and be on the internet at the same time due to Verizon's CDMA technology. At&T is on a different type of network.

Lara

Droid phones can be on the internet and talk at the same time IF you are using a wireless connection to connect to the internet. (like at home)

I do not know if the Verizon Iphone will be able to do this.

Then definitely I'd recommend the DroidX on Verizon because I CAN multitask using mine!

Can you multitask with the DroidX, yes. Can you receive a call while you were on the internet, yes. Can you be on a call and the internet at the same time, NO.

The phone isn't the problem, it is the network. If you don't believe me, be on a phone call, put it on speakerphone and try to pull up a new web page you haven't visited recently. It will not load. You can view the internet page you were on before the call, it just won't update. (Unless you are on wifi, which isn't really what people usually are talking about)

Barcode Scanner is available for the iPhone as well.
What I don't understand is if the iPhone comes out next month on Verizon, then Apple introduces a new one in the Spring, won't Verizon have a slew
of upset customers on their hands (the ones who couldn't wait and got theirs in Feb.)? This is my dilemma - do I get it when it comes out, or wait for the Spring (may or may not be a new version).

Ok, so I am leaning towards the Droid (I am with Verizon) what are the differences in Droids, I understand there are some from Samsong, Motorolla, and actual Droids. Thanks in advance!

I have the droid incredible. I love it but battery life can be bad. Doesn't affect me much because I'm not running things on it a lot but I did buy a 2nd battery to take with me to the world just in case . ( never needed it) The incredible screen is real nice for most people but at 48 years old there are times I'd like a bigger screen.

My wife has a droid-x and loves it. She replaced her ipod with it and listens to music all the time on it with no issues, battery or otherwise. She does leave it plugged in at home. She has no problems with it's size since it's in a purse.

No experience with the others.

I've had both Android phones and iPhones. iPhones win hands down- I even get good service with AT&T. I know several people at work that have Droids and they all wish they'd gotten the
iPhone. I noticed that the Android phones hang a lot or force close. Plus, the Apple app store is better.

I have the exact opposite issue. After dealing with my friend's iPhone freezing up all the time, I got a HTC Incredible. I LOVE it - and it is WAY faster than her iPhone and takes better pics :)

I just wanted to add that when we bought the Droid Incredible yesterday at Best Buy, the sales guy was so helpful. He put 2 apps on my sons phone to protect the battery life and showed him a couple of tricks he can do to extend it even further. I can't remember what they are called though. Someone else might know.

I have the HTC Incredible through Verizon. It is my first smartphone and it has changed my life. My dad got an iPhone the day it was released and I had always wanted one, but then I got my phone and I will never go off the Android OS. They are releasing the Incredible 2 in the Spring which will have dual cameras, be on the 4g network and i think have the Android 2.2 OS.

Also, for those in the market. The Xoom comes out in April. AMAZING!

My upgrade is due 4/10, so I will keep a lookout for the Xoom, thanks!

There are also a lot more Disney apps for the iPhone if that's a consideration for some. Dont get me wrong, I think Android is ok but just doesn't have the polish of the iPhone. I was someone who always switched my phone every few months. I don't do that anymore.

I have the iPhone 4 though- I think if anyone gets the iPhone, it should be the 4 at this point. I had the iPhone 3G and the 4 is definitely faster.

HTC, Motorola, Samsung and LG offer android based phones for Verizon. The differences... things like screen size, internal memory, size of sd card included, version of operating system.. etc. I could go into much more detail...

Best bet is to go on verizon wireless.com. :surfweb: There is a feature that allows you to do side by side comparisions. Also, sites like CNET, Phandroid, Boy Genius Report have reviews.

I have read this as well, but how many times does someone do this? really? For me, that is not a deal breaker. As much as I want to get one when they come out, I don't know what features the new phone will have, and if Verizon will get the new version.

I do this absolutely all the time! I bought a bluetooth for that reason alone. I can be talking to someone, check and send emails, text, internet, twitter, etc!

That would be a huge deal breaker for me! Luckily I've been with AT&T 10 years and haven't ever had issue :lovestruc

OP here! Thanks everyone for all your responses. I've decided I will be getting the iPhone, question now is do I get in in Feb. or wait for a possilble iPhone 5 in the Spring/early Summer? Thoughts ??

Tough call, because while Apple seems to update every year, you can't be sure that they will this spring.

I'm sure you'll love the iPhone though. Mine is with me all the time.
