iPhone 5 Battery Life

Yes, my Wi-Fi is on. So, are you putting it in Airplane Mode then? If I turn Wi-Fi off in my house all day, will the phone then go to 4G to receive texts?

If you turn wi-fi off, your phone will continue to receive phone calls and texts. It won't receive data (facebook/email notifications, some picture texts, etc).

I don't put it in airplane mode, I just turn wi-fi and cellular data off when I'm not using them. It takes 5 seconds to turn them back on when needed. :)

I have done all those things since the day I brought my phone home and I still have to charge it every day. :)

I just consider it the trade-off for going to a smartphone. :)

For my, the battery life is the biggest problem with the iPhone 5. That and it's quirky Maps app.

Turning off all push notifications and fetching new data manually worked wonders for our phones. With these being so much more than phones I think it's a given that the battery is going to be drained faster.

Good luck

I guess I don't see the problem if the charge only lasts a day. When you go to bed, plug it in. The next morning when you wake up it's charged and ready to go for another day.

That evening when you go to bed, repeat the process. :confused3

You have to remember that you're talking to someone coming from 1990s technology into the present day!! With my older phone it was "bad" to charge too often, good to let the battery drain down. So I could go a week without a charge.

I am simply not used to a battery draining so fast and was of the mindset that nightly charging was not good. Apparently that is not the case so I've changed my ways and have become a nighttime charger.

One thing that I have learned iwth my iphone is to watch the WiFi setting. If you are somewhere that doesn't have WiFi, and you have WiFi turned on, the phone will constantly be searching for a WiFi signal, and that tends to run down the battery. Turn off WiFi if you are somewhere that doesn't have it, and the battery will last longer...for example, when I am at my MIL house, there is no WiFI, so I turn WiFi off...it really does make a difference.

Okay, went to work today and did not use the phone AT ALL. I had it on, though. WiFi turned off. I started at 100% and am now at 93% at 4:45PM. I guess that's not too bad.

I still have not figured out how to turn the 4G off. When I'm in settings I clearly see the option to turn off WiFi but not one for the cellular service. According to everything I've read, if I want both WiFi and 4G off, I have to go to Airplane Mode. Is there another way to access the 4G setting that I'm just not seeing.

Going through my phone as I'm doing it...:p

Go to settings

Go to general

Go to network

Cellular Data is at the top. Switch to off. :)

Under settings, go to wifi, and just click it, then choose OFF. It will use the 3g network instead of wifi network (and use part of your data allotment)....I've still got an iphone 4 (not time to upgrade yet).

Airplane mode turns the phone/texts off completely, don't do that. Just turn the wifi off.

Someone (or more than one person) suggested that I turn the 4G off also and I just don't see an option to do that.

Thanks, I found it!

Now, I know I sound dense and pardon me if I'm just not understanding: if I switch off Wi-Fi and Cellular Data, how is this differing from just putting it in Airplane Mode? Am I getting something more if I turn off those two functions (WiFi and Cellular Data) rather than going into Airplane Mode? It just seems the same to me.

If you turn off wi-fi and data, you'll still receive phone calls and texts. When you have those 2 turned off, your phone is just like a non-smartphone. :)

If you put the phone in airplane mode, you won't receive calls or texts. :)

No problem on helping with finding where the data button was on the phone. My 15 year old had to help me find it at first. :p

I charge my phone daily. Iphones are infamous for short life batteries. I have an I4S and permanently attached the battery extender which holds about 7 more hours of charge when I switch it on. Use your own Wi-fi instead of streaming on your data plan. The streaming uses lots of battery life. Also, get an app killer and use it. Streaming music also uses a ton of battery life. The phone store should be able to tell you what you're doing that's using the most battery and what you can do to extend the life.

I think I've finally got it!

Another couple things to check:

1) Bluetooth is a battery hog. If you're not connecting to your car, a headset, etc, turn it off. It's in Settings under General/Bluetooth.

2) In Settings, under Wi-Fi, turn off Ask to Join Networks. If you don't, the phone will always be scanning for a wi-fi network to connect to.

All the stores are getting them in weekly (mabye only 4-5 at a time). They are essentially selling them to walk-ins. I've heard the next big "pre-order" shipment at all stores is approximately 10/15.

you are spot on!
