I havent read all the replies, just wanted to chime in now.

What youre describing is totally normal if you ask me. Nothing to worry about. Thats just how it is with smartphones. You'll need to charge it every night. No need to panic, no need to take it back to apple. If you want something better on battery, then you have to go the non-smart-phone route unfortunately. There are some tips to conserve battery, which i see someone has provided you with the link. Other than that, there's not much that can be done.

I don't understand having a smartphone if one is going to just shut everything off. What's the point of the smartphone?

I do have Bluetooth off, I have only a handful of apps that push notifications and I get my email when I want to check it. Most of the time I have to charge every other day unless I have a day of heavy use. I don't see the big deal in having to charge it.

iPhone runs a few things that uses a lot of power that you really dont need.

bluetooth is one.
Wifi is set so that it continuously scan for a wifi hotspot to continue, this also chews up your battery.
If you only use phone calls and txt messages, It can all be done just fine on 2G. Using 3G or LTE which has faster speeds dont really matter for phone calls and txt messages.

Its kinda like buying a computer that came with a lot of junk stuff that manufacturer include like anti virus, programs etc. It slows your computer down and you gotta uninstall them to speed it up...

Whatever. I'm lazy. Easier to just plug in and charge rather than shutting things on and off and worrying about battery use. I will shut off WiFi if I am going to be in the car for a long period of time, but that's about it.

I totally agree with you. Its easier to just plug it in that to turn everything off. I have to charge my phone every night, PLUS during the day. I use my phone quite a bit!! No big deal for me cause i have a charger at home, at work, AND in my car. :thumbsup2
