iPhone 4s or Galaxy S3?

There is another option... There are smaller carriers that use the same network as AT&T and T-Mobile that offer lower monthly prices. Here's a list:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_mobile_virtual_network_operators

For example: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/1265003/

All you need is an unlocked phone.

Yeah I'm aware of those places, the problem is that you have to buy your own phone upfront which can be quite expensive ...

For instance, my current carrier MetroPCS has unlimited 4G talk/text/data for $60/month ... but to buy the Galaxy S3 phone outright it is $400, they have a "payment plan" but they charge a rediculous 20% interest.

With the "big box" companies you pay less up front for the phone but a higher monthly so it doesn't hit the pocket book as much at once!

Just wanted to make sure you knew that there is now a Galaxy S4. :goodvibes

hahaha yeah I do, the reason I am deciding between the G3 and 4S is based on initial out of pocket cost.

the 4S and G3 are both 99 for new customers.
I can get the iPhone 5 or a G4 but they are both 199 ....

and I guess I didn't mention it but I have to buy two phones, one for me and one for the DW! so initial cost of $200 vs. $400 is a big difference ... a weekend at Disney difference to be honest ;)

I would always recommend Samsung over Apple because they offer expandable memory...with the iPhone, you are stuck with what you got!

Also, Samsungs are more technologically advanced - and Androids are open-source, which means a lot more apps! There's a million other reasons, but I say go for the gold.

Ahh, gotcha. My grandmas loves her S3. My mom loves her 4S. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

My DH and I have iPhones and my DD has a Galaxy S (old model on Page Plus Cellular). I really love my iPhone but I have found the Galaxy to be perfectly acceptable. Since you are already familiar with the Android OS and you probably have purchased apps and you know how to load your music and videos on that platform, I would just stick with a Galaxy S3.

ETA: I just saw this ...

Yes, but the cost of the newer phones is a DROP IN THE BUCKET compared to what you are paying for your cell phone service. How long do you keep your phones? The extra $200 over 24 months for 2 people is $1 per week per person. I would pay $1 per week to have a better, faster phone.

We have had our current Samsung Admires for about 2 years. So I see what your saying, if I get a phone that is already a year old and keep it for another 2 technically I am 3 years behind the curve.

I can actually get the Samsung G4 for 149.99 ... if I go with T-Mobile.

Hmmmmmmm!!

I had an iPhone 4s; it was a fine phone, but the Galaxy S3 was an upgrade for me. I really liked the S3 over the iPhone. It took a couple weeks to get used to android since I had been using IOS since the original iPhone. I upgraded to a Galaxy S4 last month and gave my S3 to my wife; who had been using my old iPhone 4s. She loves the S3 over the iPhone. I won't say I would never go back to iPhone, but the screens/displays on the Galaxy models are the deciding factor for me. They are much better than the iPhone.

If you get a good case, Otterbox defender or Lifeproof type, you shouldn't have an issue.

FWIW: I have a few friends with Androids who have cracked their screens just as easily.

Dawn

I have had my iphone for over two years and have not been gentle with it. No cracks. My husband also has an iphone and we have 3 ipads with 3 kids constantly playing with all of them. No problems with any of them, but my daughter just cracked the screen on her android tablet. I would take an old iphone over any android phone. My work cell is android and it is very cumbersome compared to my iphone. My mom has the galaxy 3s and the bigger screen is nice, but it's not worth it for the other features I like better. There is a reason Samsung tries to copy the apple.

Thanks for all the input everyone.

based on my past experience with Droid, and my current setup I decided to stick with Droid ... although ...

My selection changed, I decided for an extra $40 to go ahead and get the Galaxy S4!!

Smart choice! I have the S3 and wish I could upgrade to the S4, but as things stand right now, I will not be upgrading for another 2 years. I refuse to give up my unlimited data!

Happy to help :lmao:! Enjoy your new phone :thumbsup2.

Oddly, I currently carry both an iPhone and a Galaxy (but the SII).
iPhone is for work...Galaxy is my personal cell. Need that clear separation of work and life!

I prefer the Galaxy. My personal cell was an iPhone and I switched to the Galaxy from it. Work phone was a blackberry at the time.

Now that I have both, I know that I definitely prefer the Galaxy. Hoping to upgrade to the S4 soon. :)

Im an iphone person. It does not really make sense to go with least years model on any phone unless its a cost issue. The software is only good for so long. If you keep the phones more then two years this will be an issue.

If you upgrade yearly it doesnt really matter.

I love my 4S and my daughter loves her S3 so I would agree you probably can't go wrong. I do like her bigger screen but she also says she will probably end up with an iPhone due to so many of her friends having it and I think the iTunes thing (I am not into music so that is not a biggie for me).

I have not had my screen crack (yet knock on wood) but she has.

Enjoy! We are Samsung fan's...my DD got the SG3 this Christmas and her brother got the same one last week. He thought about the 4, but as a current Verizon plan he was looking at $200 vs $50 and on his budget, the SG3 it is! They LOVE them tho...and DS had the Fascinate for over 2 years with no problems, no cracking glass, nothing and he is far from delicate with his phone. And shockingly, Verizon grandfathered DS unlimited data plan which we thought we were going to lose, so it was a nice plus.

You can use iTunes on your computer and transfer your playlists to an Android phone. We use the app/desktop program iSyncr. It works like a charm!
