Well, we had an embarassing incident this past Sunday. This is more for those w/ ADRs in restuarants and tour ressies. I wasn't sure if I should post it on the restaurnts board or Theme Park strategies so mods, please move it if you see fit. ;)

Before I left home, I programmed all of my ADRs and the tour rez info and conf numbers into my iPhone calendar. I didn't want to have to carry around paper confirmations. We live in the central time zone and FL is in the eastern. So, they are 1 hour apart. Well, for some God-aweful reason, when we went from central to eastern, the calendar changed our times! I didn't have too many ressies and we were there only 4 days so I remember when they all were, except, I decided to double check our KTTK tour time on my phone that morning when the alarm woke us. I had had it in my head we had to be there at 8:15 for the 8:30 tour. When I looked on my calendar though it said 9:15. So I told DH to go back to bed and we did for an hour and left our room at 8:15 to walk to the MK and we were there around 8:40. Well, OOOPS! We got there and they said we were on the 8:30 tour and thankfully they had only just left so they caught us up right away. they ener made us feel bad but I sure felt like I was losing my mind. :rolleyes1 Theonly way I ended up fidning out taht it was the PHONE and not me, was I checked my e-mail and Disney ahd sent us a reminder of our ADR for Monday night. On my phone, it said 8:30 but the e-mail said 7:30. AH HA! So I looked for other e-mail reminders and sure enough. :scared1: I wa SO embarassed though! We looked like one of "them" who couldn't get anywhere on time. :guilty: And if you knew me, I'm WAY early for everything! So much so my DH gets severely annoyed.

It could be a glitch or less likely, actual design, but it makes no sense to be able to set your calendar for a time and then it change. Why would anyone program their calendar for a time that it would be back home???? How UNhelpful is that?

OK. I just spoke w/ Apple support. It's fixed by turing ON the Time Zone support in your calendar settings. The issue is though, that it should NEVER be off as a default. How would anyone know to check for that if they hadn't ever had a need to? You're not going to go into a new computer or phone and automatically know everything that's different about it or possible w/ it. Why would ANYONE think when you program in a time for a reservation in your calendar that it would change when you switched time zones??? I mean really??!? That's stuff you learn, so it's Apple's (or any programer's) responsibility to anticipate the needs of the user and program accordingly. Hopefully that will be in a software update because it's a seriously stupid one. :rolleyes1

That is really annoying! Sorry for the hassle. I will say, though, that it makes sense for business clients. If there's a 1pm meeting EST that you need to call in to, and you travel and go to CST, you'll now need to call in at 12pm to be on time. So in that situation, the automatic change makes sense. Not for Disney though! Thanks for the heads up :goodvibes

Thanks!

I get that. Just to play devils advocate though ;), if you were in the pacific zone for example, and you had an east coast meeting call that was 1pm EST. Wouldn't you program into your phone the reminder for 10AM? I would. But maybe you're talking about those automatic communications between lots of phones. You'd think in that case though, the users would be far more into toying w/ the stuff on their phone or most likely, have a tech support department that takes care of all that stuff for it's employees ;). I'm sooooo not techie in any respect. I'm an artist w/ paint and brush. That's my biz. Ones and zeros and circuits and buttons frighten and confuse me. :rotfl:

Oh vell! Live and learn. Good to know for the average user. I think the default should be set up the other way. Myself anyway. ;)
