Invite to Member Homecoming

If you think DVC is a ripoff feel free to sell your points.

Give me a break. I didn't say DVC itself as a timehsare is a ripoff. I said the homecoming and I still will stick with the member cruise being a rip off. I think all disney exchanges are at an outrageous premium.

DVC is wonderful if you stay and utilize the DVC resorts.

I am so sorry that a little criticsm of the DVC as a whole is taken so personally by its members on this board.

I hope DVC takes the member response into consideration when they plan their next "special event", but I doubt they will. Even if Disney Corp. doesn't reach their target profit from DVCers for the MH event, they'll just jack up the point costs for DCL (already reported at 15% over last year), DC exchanges, or have another member cruise at an even higher price to make up the shortfall.

Love DVC resorts, Don't love the Disney cash cow attitude.

I have to admit that DVC could have handled this event a bit better and even though the cost is prohibitive to us right now, if money were no object we would be there. I'm looking forward to hearing the reports.

but didn't see the value in either one. The difference between the first invite and the second, you might ask? Was the addition of a passholder option, which is slightly cheaper than the original offer.

Anyway, this late invitation tells me that MANY members felt the same way I did, and they are scrambling to offer a last minute passholder option.

Actually, the passholder discount has been on the Members web site since shortly after the first invitations were sent. Personally, I try to check out the Members web site once in awhile and not rely on the mail since I'm not the most patient person. ;)

It's fine if you don't think the DVC events are your cup of tea, but I don't understand why the need to try and depreciate the event for those of us that do have an interest in going.

Well, I initially thought it was $299.00 per event. (So $299 X 3 :earseek: X 3 people ) That would have definately been out of my reach. I think it would have been kind of cool if they would have offered a per event pricing and as well as an all inclusive pricing because it does go over 3 days.

I am going to go to it. I think it will be worth it, It is just that there are quite a few events scheduled for this Member Homecoming, so the cost really adds up.

I attended the This Is Love event in Feb. It was an after hours event that started after Wishes ended at the MK. It included a buffet dinner and special entertainment. The Fantasyland rides were open for guests to ride on (it was walk right on every ride). There was a game for the guest to play involving clues.

Here are a couple of the gifts that were given out at the end:

The limited edition Arabas Bros. crystal slipper from the "This is Love" event in Feb

The chocolate treat from the "This is Love" event in Feb

There was also a surprise LE (1,000 pins) of Cinderella given to each guest and as well as a goodie bag.

The price for this 1 event was $125.00 per person. The event was a lot of fun and I felt like it was worth the money.
I hope Member Homecoming turns out as well as This is Love event did.

I have never heard of the This Is Love event last month. Was it another DVC event? If not, how did you know about it?

poohj80,
No, it was not a DVC event--it was open to anyone. I had heard about it over on the Dis Themepark board, (I think). There was a link to the www.disneygallery.com where they listed this event (it was the first time for the MK) and they also listed the annual Valentine event at DL. There is a calendar of events (another interesting event is going to be a Haunted Mansion Event on Sept 30th at DL)...

(I thought they had made reference to the "This is Love" event when they first announced the Member Homecoming... )

Thanks I never saw that and would have loved to have gone. I knew about the Haunted Mansion Ball events but they are a bit steep for now as well.

poohj80 - I agree about looking at the Member Site. Information is usually up there long before we get anything in the mail.

dcfromva - thanks for sharing the info about the Love Is event. Special touches like that are what make the event magical. Much like what we experienced on the Member Cruise.

jarestel - unfortunately some people just aren't happy unless they are trying to make others unhappy. Ignore them and join us for the fun!

sgtpet--"The why don't you sell your points" statement has been used on this board for years that is why with this board you get such a one sided view of things-Don't feel bad it has been said to me many times before. I keep calling them as I see them. The personal attacks have been cut back a great deal by the administrators on this board, but they still get though. This whole site is filled with people that believe the mouse can do no wrong. I personally have learned that there is no mouse, just Eisner. At any rate I still love going to Florida in the winter and enjoying my one bedroom or two at OKW. :D

Confession- No, I did not read all posts in this thread. (I feel better now... <-- me, as an angel)

Anyway, I would love to attend MH, and I would plop down the loot in a second if we had the time off from work. DVC simply let us know too late, after our plans were in stone.
The same thing happened with the Member Cruise. We would also have enjoyed that if we knew about it in time.

Thanx DVC, for doing these special things for members! :D :D :D

Thanks Pa@okw95 for the support. My comments are not that I can't afford it I just think that DVC is gouging its clients are special events and the horrific deals they make within the Disney Collection outside of the DVC resorts.

Jarestel go if you think it is worth it. I don't. Why does that ruin your excitement for it? I am just expressing my opinion just as everybody else does on this board. The only problem is that when I have a different perspective on things I get slammed, "Sell your points".

Respect my opinion as I respect yours.

I love this, now we're confusing issues in an attempt to divert this thread. Know this - we voted our shares as Roy recommended, I too would have loved to see Eisner's butt out of office. But that has ZERO to do with this. Everybody tries to lump the whole thing together and it is not. DVC is a separate entity. Period.

I won't confuse issues. I have been on all 4 of the standard itinerarires that DCL offers. I honestly put the Member Cruise above ALL of them. Do I expect the same thing this time? No, I think it'll be a teeny bit more mundane, as I think being on the cruise did enhance it some. But it is going to be an exceptional event. Do I consider it an outright ripoff? NO, I do not. Is it unfair to families, yes. There should have been a lower price for kids than that paltry difference. But that is not going to get in the way of us going and having fun with the events.

And I am not attacking anyone personally. I am just tired of the fact that EVERY time something positive come along, a good number of people in general have to come by and shoot it down as some evil money making scheme, as if to say we will get nothing in return. Far from the truth is going to happen, of that I can be absolutely sure, we will get our money's worth from it. If they want to sell SSR, they are going to really go for it to make a good impression on us.

To bring this to a summary.
We get a deal simply by getting a room superior to even the deluxe resorts for a price that is lower than they will ever have. And that price will never go up for us for the length of time we own these points. THAT is our 'deal'.

Anything else I EXPECT to pay for. To expect any other 'freebies' is total foolishness, unless you want your dues to go up to pay for such 'freebies'.

sgtpet, Be assured I do respect everyone's opinion and realize we don't all like the same things. If you don't think it's worth the money and don't want to go, I have no disagreement with that position at all. Most of the posters responding to this thread weren't as "passionate" in their opinions about the MH as you seem to be, so I was only commenting on that. I apologize if it sounded like I was slamming you, it wasn't intended.

PA@OKW - I'm a little confused on what you see as a personal attack. Just because someone wants to post something positive how is that a personal attack.

sgtpet - If anyone is doing a personal attack it is you. If you call this a rip-off isn't that putting down those who are going to it? Doesn't matter to me at all. I didn't care about your opinion on the Member Cruise and I don't care about it on this issue. The reason I suggested you sell your points is that just about every time I see a post from you it seems that you are unhappy with DVC. If I was unhappy I would sell - plain and simple.

The wonderful thing about DVC points is that each member can use them as they see fit. I don't see the need to put down others for what they are excited about. As I stated over a year ago when we were having the same kind of discussion before the member cruise. I personally think that using points to stay at the Ritz is a waste - but I applaud anyone who does it and enjoys it.

I just wanted to comment on those who claim they can't attend because there is no DVC resort availability. I'm hoping that I'm not wrong but I don't remeber reading that you had to be staying in a DVC resort to attend the event. I have read several times now how people aren't attending because there are no rooms in DVC. We are actually staying at AKL on cash for the event. We wanted to try out AKL and we are flying down for three nights specifically for MH. As for the comments about the event not being affordale for families...we agree which is why DS (2) will stay home with MIL & FIL for three days. Not to mention that I don't think that the events are geared toward children anyway. This seems to me like an adult event which is why only DH and I will attend...it is also aour anniversay getaway. To me MH came as a nice suprise trip for DH and I. The cost was never an issue to me as I expect to pay top dollar for anything in WDW. Just wanted to add my 2 cents.

disneychick05 - you are correct you really can stay anywhere. DH and I had booked AKL but switched it to OKW. We'll do AKL some other visit. We wanted to do something new this trip and since we have never done OKW that worked for us as well.

I do think the Homecoming is more an adult activity and I know others are leaving their kids at home or putting them in the clubs for the evening. It was the same way on the Member Cruise. The ship was booked but there were not a lot of kids on board.

Sounds like a great way to celebrate your anniverary. Hope you come to the DIS meet!
