I'm at a loss as to what to do here. When we were in WDW last month DS bought the Jack Sparrow bandana for Pirate Night on the ship in August. He discovered yesterday (after we got home) that the ink inventory control tag is still attached. We went to the Disney store and they don't have the system to remove it. I also went to almost every store in the mall to see if they had the system to remove it. Anyone with more ideas? I think our next step is to call Disney merchandise and see what they say but we need it by August. Does anyone have their phone number?

I wonder if they will have the right system on the ship to remove it. I think I'll ask on the Cruise boards.

I'll have DS call that number when he gets up and see if they have any suggestions.

i just edited my post above and changed the number..
the number i have up there now, i found on allears.net

i hope you can get it taken care of...
this happened to my mom....she bought a pair of jeans at saks fifth avenue...
they were a gift for a friend of hers in israel!

imagine giving a pair of jeans to someone in a different country and the gift (all wrapped up beautifully by saks) has that stupid tag on it!!
very embarrassing..

It's just funny that the put an ink inventory control tag on something that costs less than $20. The CM checking us out was in training and DS had his CM discount and she didn't know how to process that so there were 3 people checking us out and everyone forgot the tag.

On YouTube you can find videos on how to remove the tag at home. It's not that hard. This happened to me last year when I bought something at jcpenny. By the time I realized the tag was on, I had removed the price tag and thrown away the receipt. So I looked it up on YouTube and took care of it myself.

I'm just a little concerned doing it myself because this is one of the ink tags.

Mine had ink in it also. The tags have little metal balls and maybe a spring inside, so you basically cut through the tag on one side remove the balls and the tag releases. Again you tube had lots of videos

I guess I'll have to try that if all else fails. So annoying for a $20 item. Thanks.

me too...
the people my mom gave the gift to, gave it back to her the next day...(as i said, talk about embarrassing moments)...
so my mom gave it to me to see if i could get the tag off (i live in israel)..

i wasn't very excited about going around to stores to try to get the tag taken off, but i was willing to try one store where they know me...
unfortunately, their tag system wasn't compatible and they couldn't remove the tag, but the manager there is such a sweetheart, she ran around to all the stores in the mall to find one that worked on the saks tag.....it took her a half hour to run around to the different stores, but eventually, she found one......
i was so grateful to her....no way would i have had the guts to go to 20 different stores...

Let's see - I went to Macy's, aerostople, guess, american eagle (disney store said their system used to take those off). I also looked at the tags myself in Neiman Marcus and a few other stores to see if they looked the same and no luck at all. I can't believe the Disney Store has a different system than Disney World.

crazy!!!
i understand them putting tags on items like that...
otherwise, i'm sure there would be people who would slip them into their bags..
while it's not expensive, if several people steal them, it starts to add up...

but they should be careful about taking them off...the last thing they want is to put a guest through all this trouble for such a simple purchase..

on the other hand, why do they have tags on the item if no one noticed the alarm beeping when you went past?
then there really isn't any reason for the tag....if they don't notice the alarm.....so all they've succeeded in doing is annoy you..

I just checked you tube and there is a video from someone removing a tag from a Mickey hat. The person name was xaruiz. She doesn't show removing the tag but she gives other websites to help

I had this happen too with a hoodie I bought at VWL. I took it to my local Kohl's (kinda like JC Penney's) and they were able to take it off.

The lady behind the counter laughed and said "well it obviously didn't come from OUR store!:

I used to work retail and our ink tags never beeped. They explode if you try to take them off, rendering whatever you stole unusable. Therefore, hopefully people would think twice about stealing it.

this happened to me a couple of years back. I bought a hoodie at mousegears and when I came home the ink tag was still attached. We couldnt get it off. I even took it to a local disney store to see if they could detach it and they were unable to. I had to wait until the next trip I brought the hoodie with me and they detached it at the store.
