I don't personally own a timeshare but my uncle does and said we can use his points next year if we want to pay the fees. I looked at the website and was floored to see that the Disney DVC's were listed.

I think that you must have to book well in advance to get the week you want, but he says you can't book more than a year in advance. He says that since his "home" timeshare is a 2 bedroom that means we can transfer to a 2-bedroom. But his "home" timeshare in Ft. Lauderdale is kind of run-down (he says) and I wonder if it's too good to be true that we simply need to pay the transfer fee and get a week in a 2 bedroom villa at a DVC resort.

What's the actual process here, because he's never stayed anywhere but his home resort and admits he doesn't really know how to proceed. We'd love to get any of the DVC's for next Sept 2008. Any info or advice?

Thanks!! :confused3

Although I personally do not own Interval timeshare, my sister does. She has tried to use her points before, however was unsuccesful. She is not really the plan ahead type so I think that may be why. She tried about 3 months in advance and was offered Port Orleans Resort. Not a timeshare I know, it did not make sense to me either. I have heard of being able to rent the Beach Club. They have a plaque inside that does say Interval International Award of some sort. I don't think however that it is an even trade. My sister has like a three bedroom in Miami and a two bedroom in Hawaii. She said that she could not get the same size room because it is Disney and is not the same. I think the best she could get if she planned way in advance is a one bedroom. She always ended up using her timeshare to stay at Liki Tiki Village. Not quite the same as the Beach Club. I hope things work out for you. I know it can be done, just takes a lot of advance planning, although that is no different with most of the DVC resorts. No doubt you will have to have your relative call Interval to get the actual facts. Sorry this may confuse you more. :confused3 I just thought I would relay her experience to give you some idea.:)

We have tradded into dvc with my parents II.We were able to get a 1 bed and studios two other times. It all has to do with trading power. My parents timeshare is on the Cape and because they don't have many timeshares on the Cape(Cape Cod,Mass)and it is prime summer time she has good trading power.I don't think it is a shoe in that you will get a two bed.

What I would do is have him put in a search with II for the time frame you want to go(keep in mind you have a better shot slower times of the year). Most of the time I've seen OKW and SSR come up.Every once and a while I've seen BWV and BC but that is very rare.

Any more questions ask away and I'm sure someone else will have some more advice....Good luck.

I am so happy to be getting some solid experienced advice. I was wondering about Liki Tiki (or any of the off-sites) that came up on the search. I will have to have him check in to it for me now instead of waiting until it's too late!

I would love to stay at BC (never been) or OKW (stayed there last time) so if we can actually get away with doing this I will be over the moon!!

Anyone else have info I should know about?

I have traded into DVC a couple of times thru II (BCV and OKW, both 1 bedrooms). I have never seen a 2 bedroom come up (it is based on DVC owners depositing their time, so if they deposit the least amount of points to get what they want). The home resort (your uncle's) is what determines where he can trade - not every resort is equal. I own a 1 bedroom, "red" week (highest demand) at an II "gold crown" resort. I can trade into DVC. I have a friend that has a "yellow" or "green" week at a non-gold crown and they don't see the same options as I do. Last year we were looking at the same time and I got DVC and saw other DVCs available, she entered her info into II and got a different list (no DVC). Right now there is a SSR studio showing in March - if you log into II check to see if that is on your list, you'll get an idea of whether DVC will even be an option for you (of course it could be gone when you look just because someone has booked it).

We've been able to trade into VWL (studio), SSR (studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom), OKW (Same as SSR), BCV (studio), and BWV (studio, with a BW view). That said we have red weeks, so we have very good trading power. My suggestion would to be find out what color week you have, and go from there.

Okay - I'm pretty sure he has a red week, but I don't know about the resort he has...whether it's "gold crown" or not. I am waiting to gather enough info for him so that he has to do as little as possible. This way I have a better chance of him "not minding"... catch my drift?! Thanks guys! I'm thinking this MAY work after all. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions after I speak with him and look things up.
