internet access

It seems very "cheap" for DVC resorts to charge members for internet access.

Well, I'm not necessarily so sure. As I have said, I travel extensively and bring my laptop pretty much on every trip and use the Internet extensively. That said, I can tell you the exact time that I have been on the Internet on my laptop at a DVC resort in ALL of my trips: 0 minutes. And three of those trips I had my laptop with me. Besides the other information that has been given, I suspect that they simply don't have to do it to compete. I know that this is going to come out wrong, but if I have gotten through without using my laptop at DVC resorts even when I have had it with me, I suspect that the demand for Internet access isn't even as high as we might expect.

My son is a college senior. The only way he could accompany us to WDW last October was if he could follow his class projects by computer. So we packed up my trusty Dell laptop and off we went. The high speed internet at BWV was a godsend for this! Definitely worth the 10 bucks a day. Heck, we'd have paid twice that to have him with us.

But wireless access in the villa would have been better. He could have worked while lounging out on the balcony. I might have to think about the little D-Link gadget for our next trip.

I agree on some of the internet access problems need to be worked on. That said I don't think that DVC members should have to pay for this with our dues. If you want to use the internet you should pay for it. Don't get me wrong I am very computer based. I am a computer admin and the last thing I need on my vacation is a computer... :teeth: I don't thing I should have to pay for someone else to access the internet. Okay don't flame me, this is my two-cents worth..... :teeth:

I have never put so much as a toe in a DVC pool. I still have to pay for the upkeep. Your logic is flawed...

My, my, my, people sure do have different opinions on this!!!

My only passionate feeling is that (everywhere else!) internet access has become kind of a "standard ammenity" in a hotel room - similar to that of a telephone & TV. It should absolutely be available all DVC resorts!!

That said, my opinion is still that it seems cheap that internet access is not provided free. We are members of a first class resort, right?

Well, I don't use the slide but I pay for it, the upkeep and the Life Guard also. Also you get internet service but you have to pay for it.....

There are core services provided at DVC and not everyone will partake of every option available whether it be pools, grills, kids activities or the like. The system has to decide what's reasonable to do on dues and what should be paid al a cart. IMO, have thing the internet as an extra cost doesn't diminish from the quality of the resort. I'd personally love it if it were included as it would be to my benefit but I suspect it's still only a relatively small percentage that would use it enough to justify the inclusion in the dues. But as more and more people are connected, that may change at some point.

Remember that everything has a cost. IF DVC were to go All Inclusive, it'd be great to have food included but at what cost in terms of $$$ and options.

My point was that the logic behind the argument "I don't use it so I don't want to pay for it" is flawed.
There are many benefits to DVC that we all pay for but don't all use. That's OK. I'm betting that a few years from now, we'll see "free" Internet access at DVC resorts.

I consider high speed internet to be a "pay as you play" item, such as extra housekeeping, extra towels, etc. I manage fine with dial-up.

I feel the same way, we paid for it and I had no problems with it, it worked great. Our timeshare in the caribbean is the same, 10 bucks a day, we are there for two weeks and I will pay 140 bucks for it, do I need it, NO, but it will help running the business back home and will help mydaughter with the missed school days, I could go to the local store that you can sign on at and its cheaper, but its all about convenience!!
