We need to access the internet while in the room. We are wondering does anyone know if the room is high speed or dial up? What is the cost if we connected to our own provider (ie Road Runner). Does the rooms at OKW have CAT 5 internet access? What is the cost per phone call if we use dial up? I now that there is a fee of like $9.99 for 24 hours of internet access at OKW; however, we only need it for like 3 hours per day.

I usually use dialup when I bring my laptop. It's fast enough for what I need to do. I've a few local call numbers for my internet provider (checked with the front desk to make sure they were all local and not toll calls). Is it $.35 or $.75 for DVC local calls?

You can use the high speed for 24 hours for $9.99. And that is 24 hours in a row, not from midnight to midnight.

Does anyone know of a local access number to use in order to call from the resort. I just found out that road runner no longer has dial up. All we need to do is get internet access to access our roar runner e-mail. Any ideas?

I use Netzero at OKW. You can even get a free account and there are lots of local access numbers - most all Orlando numbers are local, but I usually use the Lake Buena Vista and Reedy Creek numbers- Kissimmee is NOT a local call. There is a list of local prefixes in the front of the phone book.

(407) 842-1090 56k (V.90) Lake Buena Vista, FL

(407) 597-1038 56k (V.90) Reedy Creek, FL

(You'l need a Netzero account to use these numbers.)

Cost for members is $0.35 per local call, $0.75 for non members. I use Netzero for most access at WDW. On the occasions when I want to upload photos I will pay the $9.95 for the broadband. They will provide Cat5 cable if you don't have it, but I just bring it along if I'll be using broadband.

Enjoy! :)

How does one get the internet (high speed) access at OKW. Do you have to do so at the HH house or does it just automatically charge it to your account once you plug in.

It's all done from your room on your computer. It will automatically be charged to the cc you left with the front desk at check-in.

The High Speed works well for me. It's 9.99 for a 24 hour period so I find that if log on one afternoon that allows me to check my email for basically two days. On a long trip I do an every other day thing....

Can you give me an idea of what to expect when I plug into my laptop. I have never done this sort of internet connection before. Any help is much appreciated.

That is sort of the idea I had!

Plug the cable into your computer and off you go. When you attempt to open your browser it will pop up the screen telling you that they are going to charge. You accept and you are cruising around the web. (doing it right now from a hotel!)

Got It! thanks much

The cables are in the hall closet of a 2 BR and the connection is by the phone in the living room. Would imagine it is the same in other units. As long as you have left a CC with charging priveleges you are good to go.

Just a warning

At OKW the connection in my One bedroom was in the dining room. No one at the front desk seemed to have a clue where it was and it took me a while to find it.

Yep...just as Carol said. When you sign on to IE and window will pop up and you just confirm that you want to subscribe for the 24 hour period.
And Carol, we stayed in a 2 bedroom and the broadband connection was also in the dining room. We searched a little for the port as well:

As much as I hate shelling out $10 buck a day for High Speed.

I cannnot stand dial up as I have gotten spoiled to broadband.
