International Money Order

I have just rented some points from a lovely lady over in New Jersey. She asked for payment to be made by International Money Order (which I think is our equivalent to a Postal Order). Does anyone know where I can get one??? I tried the Post Office, Nat West, Lloyds TSB & HSBC - none of them do it. I know I can get a Foreign Draft (cheque) but that's not quite the same thing.

I'm pretty sure that Barclays can provide these, but i've got a sneaky feeling that it might be for customers only. Wouldn't do any harm to give them a call in the morning though.

Another thought - maybe somebody like Western Union might be able to help ? Again, might be worth checking out their website.

We shared an IllumiNations Cruise with a US DISer during our recent trip and she asked for payment in advance by IMO.

We used an online service called Payingfast.com. It was very straight forward (and cheap), although they will ask you for some further information to validate the payment. I think we had to fax a copy of a drivers licence and the credit card used for the transaction. Both remitter and beneficiary receive e-mail notifications once the order has been shipped.

Barclays do provide them, but I would imagine, due to Money Laundering regulations, they are only available for customers and you will probably find that they are more expensive than Payingfast.

We were asked for one to pay our wedding organiser in Florida.I got one from Natwest.The lady at Natwest told me the easiest place to get one from was the post office.

I used to pay my student loan by IMO, and got them from Barclays quite regularly (every flippin' month...) I was a customer there though - I would have thought most banks could provide one, it seems like a pretty standard thing to need,

You can buy a cheque made out in $$ at any Thomas Cook FE bureau.The charge is about £10+. Or there is a Moneygram (which the Post Office also do) (which is the same as Western Union ),also at Thomas Cook.There is a charge for this depending on how much you send,but money can be collected 'the other end' after 10 minutes! When it is sent they can work out exactly how much you want the reciver to recive in $$.
