I will be traveling on a international flight next month. Any security changes I should be aware of from last year. Lots of rumors out there....

Thanks!

Yes there have been changes implemented suddenly after the attempted bombing on that plane from Amsterdam over Christmas.

The restrictions will depend on where you are going. Make sure you check with the proper authorities for the country you are going to be visiting.

Based on what I have seen so far, there have not been too many changes when travelling in or from the US but when you come back there may be baggage restrictions and time-consuming extra security measures. For example, when travelling to the US from Canada you are limited as to the size and type of carry-on you can have (actually officially you are not even allowed carry-on baggage but then there are all kinds of exceptions), You can't have carry-on with wheels. So, if you don't do your research you might fly to wherever you're going with certain bags but then not be allowed to return with the exact same bags. Also, when going through security you will be subject to a body scan or a pat-down.

Keep watching as the time for travel approaches as restrictions can be modified.

Subscribing. We're taking our first international flight this March to and from Cancun and I'd be interested in knowing what to expect at EWR and CUN as opposed to our usual flights to and from MCO from the northeast. I might just show up in crocs and a thong.

Your best bet is to check the websites for your airline, TSA and the airport you will be travelling from when returning to the USA. Canada has new restrictions which on the Transport Canada website state are temporary but are still in place.

Hopefully Bavaria will be along to help with this answer as she is always traveling through airports and would have the best info.

Though I have a couple overlays the large airports I'll be dealing with are Chicago & Copenhagen if that helps.

I definitely wasn't aware of the no wheels carry on! I sure hope that's not in effect for any of my flights....

Any updates on this? I'm about 2 weeks out :goodvibes

It seems each airline is implementing their own policy. It is ALWAYS best to check directly with the airline.

For instance right after the Christmas attacks when inbound international flights had all the restrictions United considered flights from Puerto Rico international while US Airways did not thus the restrictions did not apply. (On a side note United needs a geography lesson!!) But the point is each airline is different.
