"Intermediate SUV"?

So I have a full size booked from Dollar for my Feb trip at about 187/week, I guess, but I go on Orbitz every few days to see if anything cheaper turns up. Size-wise I'm fine with a mid-size or standard but full-size is usually a few dollars more so we get full size, we do have a lot of luggage.

Anyhoo, tonight from Alamo pops up an "intermediate SUV" for $133/week. No photo, no example of the type of car that might be. I went ahead and pounced on it (without cancelling the full-size.) The Alamo website turned up nothing in the category. I checked other car companies and one lists a Kia Sorrento as an example of an intermediate SUV.

I know very little about cars, haven't owned one in years, and know less about SUVs, but this seems like a decent deal. Can anyone give me guidance? Since we are keeping the car for 10 days the savings is well over $100.

They are also listing a "standard SUV" described as a Chevy Blazer or similar, for $174/week.. or slightly less than my full size rental. I never knew SUVs could be had for these prices, I never even look at that category.

Hi,
I'll try to help:)

The intermediate SUV that Alamo lists is a Chevy Equinox. (We actually have one reserved for our October trip)

The Equionox is smaller than the standard SUV, Chevy Trailblazer. It would be comparable to the Kia Sorrento or Hyunda Santa Fe.

Although Alamo says the Equinox is only able to hold 2 small suitcases, I'm sure it can hold more.
We own a Hyundai Santa Fe, which is probably about the same size as the Equionox.
We (family of 4) drove our Santa Fe from NJ to WDW last March, and had 3 medium-size suitcases, garment bag, cooler, etc., and had plenty of room.
(That's being able to still see out the rear window, too)

Hope this helps:)

My Aunt owns a Chevy Equionx and the trunks are supprisingly small. The wheel wells take up much of the trunk, making it long, but narrow. The back seat is of good size and the trucks got good handiling and acceleration. The SUV would be compeable with the Huyndai Tucson (The Santa Fe is much larger)

Hope this helps...

Well, we'll have a couple healthy-sized adult suitcases, a very smaller wheeler for a child, and your odd shoulder bags. And a stroller.

Sounds like it could be cramped... but the price is awfully nice. I'm tempted to deal with it and cram a little.
