interesting....

Upon entering Epcot, and arriving in front of the large fountain, go to the left, there is a water fountain and a suprise Mickey recording plays when you drink from it. 40 trips to disney and only discovered this in May.

This thread is great! I love the one with the "forced perspective" on the castle, I think it's very interesting. Keep the facts coming!!

Animal Kingdom is five times the size of the Magic Kingdom making it the largest Disney Theme Park in the world. It is a 580 acre park including many species of wildlife, including Africian plains animals.

There is a "talking" water fountain in Future World near the main fountain. It is just outside the Centorium shop on the east side of the big fountain. There is another one to the right of the play fountain between Future World and World Showcase. There's a third one to the left of the restrooms between Imaginations and Innoventions West.

A small plane crashed in the parking lot of EPCOT in 1994 close to Thanksgiving during park hours. The small plane was carrying a family for the holiday season. The pilot nearly hit Spaceship Earth and the Monorail before crashing in the parking lot. The pilot, Mother and Father were killed but the children survived.

If you go up to the resource center, in Epcot, ride the elevator. There's a great Aerial photo of Walt Disney World in lieu of wallpaper. Most of the locations are labeled/identified.

The World of Disney, the Disney Store at the Marketplace, is the largest Disney Store in the world. At the widest point it is just shy of the width of a football field. It has twelve rooms full of Hidden Mickeys.

Did you know that the only place on Disney World Resort property where you can buy a photo of Walt Disney is at Sid Cahuenga's one-of-a-kind shop in the Disney MGM Studio's where they sell for $4.00. Occasionally, the store carries an authentic autograph of Walt that can be purchased for about $3,000!!

The cap in the center of MGM weighs a wopping 150 tons and stands 122-foot-tall. Under the cap are computers with quizzes about Walt and his work. The pens they give out will light up at certain attractions through-out the park (Like over at the Haunted Mansion, it lights up like a heart beat). At night they call it a "Pen Light presession" as the pens light up and flash during the night.

At Beaches and Cream if you look at the back of the menue you can see a "Kitchen Sink." It has every kind of ice cream, topping and whatever else they throw in there in this dessert. I ordered it and if you finish it within an hour and eat it all by yourself you get it for free. Well I only took up this offer because something free from Disney almost never occurs!! So I decided to get myself some free ice cream. Well, I did finish it and almost got sick when I did. I did receive a certificate that I was in the "Kitchen Sink Club" and Mickey signed it himself. For a good time, I would recomend trying this sundae! <this was not me who tried it, just copied it from a different web site.>

* Kevin Richardson of the Backstreet Boys is a former Walt Disney World cast member. Although the official Backstreet Boys site only states he worked at Walt Disney World, Kevin has said he played Aladdin.

*Did you know that there are no lost children in the Magic Kingdom? There are only lost parents. The reason for this distintion is because when a child becomes seperated from their parents, they are often afraid that their parents will be upset at them. When you tell them that it is not they who are lost, rather their parents, it shifts the "blame" to the parent.

*Every night the maint. staff hoses down the park with over 120 degree water so all the gum will melt off of the mid-ways and cue-lines.

*For every three trees you see in the Magic Kingdom, there is one tree "behind the scenes" that is the similar size and looks. These trees are kept in case a tree is damaged during a storm it can be replaced at night without anyone knowing it was missing!

*Disney Fireworks Patents: US05627338, US05739462, US05526750, 5440990 and US05339741

*Go to the Magic Kingdom and ride the Tomorrowland Transit Authority (formerly the WEDWAY Peoplemover). You'll pass a model of a futuristic city. This is an original concept model for a then-future EPCOT Center.

*If you're enjoying fresh vegetables at the Garden Grill, Sunshine Season Food Fair, or Coral Reef restaurants, chances are they were grown right in the Theme Park. Last year, more than 30 tons of fruits and veggies were harvested from The Land pavilion's greenhouses.

*Believe it or not... the water hyacinths just beyond the ticket windows at Epcot Center aid in the processing of Epcot's sewage, which eventually is used for plant watering, street cleaning, etc.

*I recently spoke with Joan McLean, director of Human Resources for WDI (Walt Disney Imagineering). She mentioned that the meteor effects inside Dinosaur are done by combining a chasing fiber optic effect, with a small, non-pyrotechnic puff of smoke and xenon strobe flash on the "ground". This creates the look of a meteor falling from the sky and exploding. This is the same fiber optic chasing effect as used in some sidewalk tiles in Epcot, as well as the Norway flume ride "Troll dust".

*Earful Tower is not an operating water tower. It is only a landmark patterned after a real water tower at the studios in California. This is noted on the WDW Explorer CD-ROM.

From the Keys to the Kingdom Tour and our guide Rae:

The 17 feet comes from a time when Walt wanted to discover how long people would hang onto trash. When Disneyland opened he gave guest hard candy and tracked how long they would hang onto the wrappers. That's why trash bins are positioned every 17 feet!

YMMV

A cast member once told us that the two-finger point originated with Walt himself: he had to use both fingers or else he would have dropped his cigarette.

-- Joe

I'm a former CM and I still use the 2 finger point!!

I wanted to add to the fact about the Backstreet Boy Kevin Richardson having worked at WDW. Kevin started as a tour guide at the Backstage Studio Tour just after Disney-MGM Studios opened. He then went on to work at the Walking Tour and then transferred to Entertainment to work as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.

Another interesting fact, one of the people in the mural in the queue area for Maelstrom in Norway is wearing a Mickey Mouse watch.
