Interesting Experience Booking a Cash Stay

We just called to book cash stay for June 16-20 through MS via Cash. I know that isn't interesting, but here is the interesting part.....

She accidentally booked us for 2023 instead of 2022. They had a Riv Preferred studio at a significant discount ($2100 for 4 nights). They also had a BWV Boardwalk View Studio available. How do they have cash stays for 13 months out?

Unfortunately for us they didn't honor the great rate at RIV. They did have a small discount vs booking cash via WDW.

Because RIV is still 50% owned by Disney and follows the cash rules for booking cash.

Now, BWV, that might have been a mistake if you didn’t actually chose it it might not have gone through.

Since Members are allowed to use up to 2 future years worth of points to book a cruise, perhaps someone traded points for a cruise and that resulted in the early cash availability for the BWV. In the past, DVC did not send either standard view or Boardwalk view villas to the cash side. I hope that hasn't changed, and that it was a glitch of some kind.

I've seen cash stays advertised for Boardwalk views at BWV on disneyworld.com so I believe that did change.

Thanks to Sandi and Carol for the info. The cash side booking w/DVC is new to me. This all makes sense.

In this scenario even though Disney takes possession of the points wouldn’t they still have to follow rules of booking window for those points?

That part is unclear because they are technically selling to pay for the trade which they may need to do sooner rather than later.

But I do still wonder if it would have actually been bookablle being 13 months away.
