Are they high pressured??? The reason is that we are interested in DVC, but we'll probably go through a resaler. But me and DH would want to see the properties and everything first. I just don't want to get into an uncomfortable position at the end of the presentation. You hear too many horror stories from around Orlando!

TIA!

ASk for Mark WEbb. Tell him that you just want information. I think that he knows everyghing that there is to know about DVC and is NOT high pressure at all. With almost 100,000 members in this short time DVC salespeople do not have to be high pressure. DVC sells itself IMHO. Regardless, enjoy and become informed from someone who will answer all of your Q's

There are some advantages to resale but there are also advantages to buying direct. Disney ROFER's so many contracts that you do not get the huge discount that you get with other resales.

(no, we are not related to Mark) :rotfl2:

Try to imagine all the terrible things you have every experienced or heard about timeshare presentations. :guilty:

Now, imagine just the opposite. That's what you'll get from DVC. Zero pressure. :teeth:

I did not find the DVC tour high pressure at all, but there is some hurry in that you must make the decision within 72 hours to receive the $8/pt discount.

After taking the tour, and researching the resale market (this site was invaluable for that) I did go through resale. I did not want to start with 150 pts, the minimum for direct purchase. After closing costs I will pay appx. 84 pt for ssr, assuming Disney does not exercise right of first refusal, then all bets are off. So pricewise it seems to be a wash between direct or resale.

:cheer2:

Not at all. We told our guide upfront we would not be signing anything that day but wanted all the information to take home and digest. She was very informative and didn't pressure us in any way.

We ended up going resale so we could get VWL.

The only negative to taking the tour is that special financing and the like are sometimes time limited and triggered by your tour.

The tour was a very enjoyable experience. My kids had a blast and wanted to do it again this year. It is not high pressure at all. My husband and I never even discussed DVC before we went into the presentation. But I had read enough to know the value. I thought it would be fun to pass the time, but in the end, my husband was convincing me that we could do it. Now we are taking a second trip this year, just DH and I . We had a few points left over from our June trip and we are staying 5 nights at a studio at OKW. We could have never taken advantage of the cheap flights in the fall without DVC.

We still joke about a comment one of the guides made to us in response to that question . . . We stopped by the old sales center on the Boardwalk several years ago and were chatting with the guide who met us at the door. We expressed our interest, but said we didn't have a lot of time to spend and didn't have the energy for a high pressure sales presentation. She said "Don't worry. We treat all our visitors with Disney Dignity." We still joke about being treated with Disney Dignity!!! Anyway, we got all our questions answered with no pressure. We kept our guide's business card and a year later called him up and bought over the phone.

Good Luck!
Leslie

I hate to be the one voice of dissent, but our first tour was very, very high pressure. Oddly enough our guide was/is one who is mentioned on these boards as very good. Anyway he really put the pressure on us to make a decision then and there. Made us feel like if we didn't buy then, we'd be making a huge mistake. I mentioned to him, I was thinking about going resell, he told me that buying from DVD was cheaper than going resell and I shouldn't even consider it. He admitted he was being high pressure, but was being that way because previous customers had told him afterwards that they had wished he had put more pressure on them to buy then. We didn't buy then.

We then came back the following year planning to buy. We had an appointment with this same guide. He couldn't even show us the courtesy to be there. They gave us to someone else who was great. She put no pressure on us at all. We bought then right on the spot. Unfortunately our original guide got credit for the sale. You'd thought he would have called us after the fact and thanked us for the sell, but we never heard anything from him until several years later when we did our add-on.

When we did our add-on, I called the fellow and he did the add-on over the phone. Anyway, the point is (if there is a point to all this :) ) is if we had acted upon our first impression of DVC and our original guide we'd never bought. But we did and couldn't be happier with our two purchases.

We had no pressure other than the one where you have to buy within X days of your tour to get the price break. We have been to lots of timeshare presentations, and Disney's is QUITE different from the rest! Just be aware that when you do the tour, you will only see the SSR units. Granted, the floor plan will be the same as BWV, BCV, and VWL, but will be quite different from OKW. To see those, you would want to visit the resorts on your own and ask to see a unit.

We first looked in Sept 98 and there was NO pressure, just the mention of the discount if you bought during that trip. We went again in Dec 99 just to get some updated info, and ended up buying. Even though it was our second visit, they STILL offered a sales incentive. They bought back half our first years points at $10 a point.

Among other things the OP said

But me and DH would want to see the properties and everything first.

It is my understanding that if you tour DVC now what you will get is a tour of SSR. There may be some information (floor plans etc.) available on the other DVC properties but I think that is it. We too the tour last fall just to see what SSR was like and there was no mention of the other properties.

With that said, I know that BCV did have a model open on the 1st floor. I'm not sure if the model is still open or not. I have also read that the some folks have gone to the other on site DVC properties and asked to see the rooms and were accomodated.

The point I am making to the OP is that if you want to see all of the on site DVC properties you are going to have to visit each site and see if they have a model or perhaps will allow you to see an unoccupied room.

I never took the tour. If you sign up for it but decide that you don't want to take tour (I've been to WDW about 6 years and knew about DVC long before I signed up for the tour), they will still give you the information package (this is what I did). Think about how many timeshare presentations will give you the information without listening to the spiel. This should give you an indication of the pressure. Yes, they would like you to buy but it doesn't have to be today. You will probably do like I did, come back a few years later and buy.

We did the tour in 1997 and not only was it low pressure, it was no pressure.

As a matter-of-fact, our guide, Mark Webb, actually said "Disney wants folks to be happy with their purchase. If you don't think this is the right thing for yo that's fine. We won't bug you about it".

we did our tour exactly a week ago, and decided to buy in yesterday (the rep extended our incentive for another day because of special circumstances).

first at the information booth (at Downtown Disney), the guide (Barry) told us if we don't go where disney goes, we'll be wasting money even if it's $5 per year. he also told us to think about all the cost and financial stuff AFTER we get home from the resort, because you'd be crazy to spend $15000+ in less than a couple of hours.

second day we went to the tour, the tour guide (Juan) was very informative and explained a lot of things. at the end of the tour he left me and my wife in a enclosed office with calculator/paper, and told us to call him when we are ready. since we didn't have our budget information with us so we told him we'll decide after we get home. he was very nice about it and told us that's a good idea.

bottom line, absolute no pressure, except the 3-day deadline for the incentive.

Changjoe,

what budget information did you need? I'm taking the tour next week.
I'm practically positive I'm buying points. Been seriously thinking and researching about this for a while. Wish I would have bought in when I first heard about DVC when it was only $9000 for 150 points :confused3

Did you need to have any other info with you?

Terri

It sounds like he meant his own personal budget information to see how to fit in this expense.

yeah, it's my personal budget to see how much i can afford.
you don't need any info for the tour. $9000 for 150 points would've been a steal, too bad i didn't even know about VDC until last week. SSR does have a longer membership though, so i guess that's ok.
