Instep and Baby Jogger double stroller question

The combined weight of my children exceeds the 100 lb capacity by a little (they are about 110 lbs.). Has anyone ever used either of these strollers with kids weighing more than 100 lbs? Was it easy to operate the stroller even though the weight was higher than recommended?

I''ve used a BJ double with kids that together weighed about 125lbs. and had no problems - still easy to push/steer (as easy as realistically possible with so much weight). It's a really sturdy stroller but I can see how carrying so much weight runs the risk of increased wear and tear and possible frame damage over time.

I'm sure you'd also risk voiding the warranty... but from a practical use standpoint, my personal feeling is that there's some wiggle room in the maximum weight limit. I don't see it as being the same as a carseat where exceeding the maximum weight poses a true safety hazard so I'm a bit more lenient when it comes to strollers.

I've played with the Instep in the store and in my opinion it's not nearly as sturdy as the Baby Jogger but no experience using it with heavy kids.

Thanks for your first-hand experience. I'll have to find a store nearby that carries them and give them a test drive.

ITA, the BJ is much sturdier.

We saw someone who had 2 large kids together in a double stroller who were pretty obviously over the weight limit. One of the back wheels was bent out sideways. It seemed to be pretty hard to push and I wondered when it would break off.
I have also been behind someone when their wheel broke off and I have seen strollers where the wheels had excessive wear on one side (one child was a lot heavier than the other).

So, if you do exceed the weight limit, check the stroller for excess wear.
