Inspired... Not washing blankets at resorts??

This is a great point! When using your own bed linens, put them over the existing sheets and pillowcases. Don't take them of and expose the mattress or pillows. Yuck!!!

And since kdtwiss brought up boogers, what about little kids, and I guess, some adults, who pick their noses while using the TV remote control?!?!?! :crazy2: Blah!!! That'll stop the channel surfing for your "Zip-a-dee-do-da...Tip for Today!!"!! Here's a tip "Drop the remote immediately!!!" :teeth:

Has anyone asked you yet about your photo? Tell us about it. Did you take it? I'm assuming that IS Shaquille? I went to college with him. Didn't know him as a friend, though.

AGAIN we are not talking about living in a bubble! There is a big difference between sitting where someone else sat then sleeping on something that someone else may have been naked on or who knows what on. There is a big difference in sleeping where someone you dont know just slept and going on a ride after someone else.

I'm sorry some of you just cant get that

DianeV, don't let anyone tell you that you are wrong for being cautious.

There is a huge difference between being smartly cautious and paranoid.

Yes, germs are everywhere - so are pot holes, but I don't drive my car over them intentionally.

I take five minutes when I check in to use those handy lysol wipes on the bathroom and living surfaces I will touch. I don't use comforters. Who the heck knows what Susie Snotnose and her boyfriend Mr. Smelly Pants did in/on/near that bed when they checked out last night.

It's just common sense not to expose yourself intentionally to other peoples fluids and health concerns.

My mom was a "Mommie Dearest" when it came to cleaning, so I do know the paranoid side of this issue (my mother washed the floors EVERY NIGHT when I was a kid, on her hands and knees) - and I like to think I've come away with a happy balance of caution and good sense when it comes to cleanliness. I like to feel clean - but I'm not compulsive about it.

To each their own, I guess - but being smart is never stupid. ;)

Here's my idea, bring a pair of rubber gloves and XXL Garbage bags with you, first thing you do when you get in the room put on your gloves, strip the beds and stuff the comforters in the bags then take them to the coin operated laundry at the resort, wash, dry, and remake the bed.

I'm not sure if the laundry has machines large enough but if so I will do this.

I think for over $100/night, Disney (or ANY hotel) should provide clean rooms and bed linens. I am perfectly okay with them not changing the sheets while I am there (I don't change them more than once a week at home anyway). I would make my own bed and empty my own garbage to save them time and money if it meant I would have the "luxury" of clean bedding. Disney, like any other hotel and in fact any other business will spend the least amount of $ to make the most amount of profit.

As others have mentioned, (at least for me) this isn't about catching a disease, it's about the gross factor and believing that clean rooms and bedding shouldn't be an unreasonable expectation.

I agree that the thought of it is really gross, and that people should be informed about this practice, but I also see the profit factor for the hotel industry. Imagine if you washed your own comforter every day. It wouldn't last two months, and comforters are not cheap- at least a couple hundred dollars each. It is just not practicle. So, now that I am at least armed with the knowledge, I just remove the comforter, spray everything down really good with Lysol, and for good measure I will be wiping down the bathrooms with Clorox wipes, too. Is it a shame that I have to do this, yes. Is it a major big deal, NO!

It's was taken at the 34th Annual “Parada y Festival de los Reyes Magos” (Three Kings Day Parade and Festival) marching through Calle Ocho (Little Havana) in Miami on Sunday, January 17th. Shaq was the Grand Marshall. Pretty cool, right? Go Heat!!!

I don't see why they cannot use a "duvet cover" type of thing, where the comforter is basically encased in a sheet. That could easily be removed and washed between guests. I wonderful how many guests are in a room each month - 4 or 5? I am not asking them to wash the comforters every day.

Contrary to what most people here seem to think, I will still THOROUGHLY enjoy my vacation, even if I do spend a half hour of it cleaning the room on the first night!

8 weeks and counting!!!!

Laugh O. Grams - I am thoroughly humiliated - I just thought "what a nice picture of that guy Laugh O. Grams, whoever he is." Had NO IDEA it was really Shaq until someone else pointed it out...just wasn't expecting it to be someone I'd seen before...

Oops! I thought it LoG in the pic, too! In fact, I was reading this thread earlier thinking, "Aw, he looks like such a nice guy." I had no idea it was somebody famous. Can you tell I'm not a sports person? :rotfl:

GEM - no doubt about it, we are dorks, plain and simple.

Count me in! I thought Laugh O Grams looked like a fun-loving guy!

I sat at a table next to "Z" from the Cleveland Cavs and didn't know who it was. In fact, I almost said "Buddy, would you move your chair in a little?" LOL! I guess when you're that tall, you need some leg room!!

We love staying at the Marriots because of the bedding. It is all white and sooo comfy, so we never thought about them being "unclean"! What are your thoughts???

How do you people take all your own bedding? Do you really take sheets, blankets, and comforter and pillows? We are a family of 5, and have to fly, how could I possible take all that too?
It sounds good in theory, but that would be alot of extra to fly with.

OMG  ...I couldn't even finish reading this because I was about to throw up! I do take my own sheets to use but, I didn't think about sitting on the bed. Which means I have been sitting on filth. I think I am going to be sick!!!!!!!!

:crazy2: This is not my review - quoted from Tripadvisor web site - Read on only to be grossed out!
A person staying at the Polynesian had this to say(partial quote)
"The room was nice, but I was dissappointed with housekeeping. My son had a terrible time with diarrhea the night we got there. I did clean up the bathroom with all the extra towels and bagged them up prior to her arrival. I even left her a note to "warn" her about the yucky stuff.
She never mopped the bathroom, because the next day, I could still see smears of where I had used my travel Lysol spray to wipe with.
We stayed there for 4 nights. I was polite and asked again, but nothing was ever done.
I know there is always one bad apple in a crowd, but for the $, I expected much more."

Really gives you something to think about

I had never thought much about how disgusting the bedspreads at hotels were until just recently when I was watching one of the one of the true crime shows on Court TV. This was a case where a person was assaulted in a hotel room, and they tested the comforter for semen so they could try to get DNA evidence on the attacker. When they tested the comforter, there were 38 different semen stains on the comforter, and only 2 were from the person they needed the sample for. That totally grossed me out. I will never sit on a hotel room bedspread again. Heck, I may even bring plastic gloves to remove it so I don't even have to touch it :rotfl:

Im not paranoid about germs... I worked in hotel housekeeping for 3 weeks when I was a teen... GROSS. So, I dont sit on the bedspread because its just plain gross. I just cant get cozy with some strangers semen. I request a CLEAN blanket with NO crusty stains.... I NEVER give my kids a bath in the tub, YUCK. They shower. I dont want them soaking in all kinds of different peoples body soil and foot fungus! Thats just gross. If you think housekeeping cleans the bathtub as well as you do at home.... they dont. I NEVER drink from the glasses in the room. When I worked at a hotel they did not send those glasses through a dishwasher... they sprayed them out with sanitizer, rinsed in hot water and dried with a hopefully clean towel. I like when they provide plastic cups WRAPPED in plastic, to me that says CLEAN, not cheap.

I was relieved to read that some hotel chains are switching to duvet covers that they will launder often!

Wow!! This thread is sooooo addictive!!! I didnt wanna read it ...honestly I didnt!!....but it just kept rolling along!! EEK!
Im not worried about catching anything but like so many others on here, my yuk-o-meter would be well into its danger zone at the thought of soiled sheets and crackly bits!! I didnt even consider the comforter and have always lounged about on it during the afternoons - not any more though after reading all this. YUK!! and double YUKKY YUK!!
And yes, I did think the comforters were washed a lot more frequently than they obviously are - when you pay a lot of money for a hotel I would want everything changed - Disney owe it to their paying patrons surely?
When we go back Im gonna strip off that nasty comforter and inspect those sheets and pillowcases and if I find anything I dont like - im on that phone straight away!
I wonder what some of you would think of UK hotels - quite often those weve been to have left a lot to be desired (and they were not all cheap motels either). One place we went to had stains on the sheets. When I complained they told me oh, they are old ones, weve steam cleaned them so they will be fine. I marched up to my room, stripped the bed, marched back to reception, plonked the sheets on the counter and requested clean sheets in a very loud voice. Im sure the poor young girl still has nightmares about me even now! Still, I got my sheets changed quick smart and a free meal for our family with wine by way of an apology. :)
