Inspired... Not washing blankets at resorts??

Did I really just read that someone purporting to have medical knowledge said you could get AIDS from riding a theme park ride after an AIDS patient had ridden?? You ought to be ashamed of yourself...
I truly believe that no one mentioned it in any other posts because anyone with a shread of common sense realizes that it's an obvious untruth and ridiculous statement. Much like..."Well when we're at Disney, the sky is green, not blue like everyone else sees". Why debate or even acknowledge something so inherently wrong?

AGAIN not everyone is complaining about being worried about catching something! I personally am not worried about that but I dont want to be touching someone elses leftovers, blood, snot, pee or whoever knows what else is on the bedding..do we not ever see people in public that we look at them and wonder what their house must look like?

These are the people who are not the best in hygiene or leave a public bathroom disgusting. I always think about their own home and what if they just stayed in the room I am moving into?

It is just a gross thing not a sickness factor for me and others I have seen posting

Wow,I can't believe some of the stuff I'm reading here.. I am a 14 year survivor of AIDS..I have children who I do not wish to infect... The AIDS virus is VERY fragile and dies within second when it comes in contact with air..Hepatitus is far more of a hearty drug and lives outside of the body for much longer . You will not get AIDS from going in a pool with me,or sitting on splash mountain after I've ridden.

I know that you really can't get these diseases from seating on the same seat or sleeping in the same bed as someone with AIDS or hep. I was just trying to make a point.

The following is from the CDC:
Unfortunately, false information or statements that are not supported by scientific findings continue to be shared widely through the Internet or popular press. Therefore, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has prepared this fact sheet to correct a few misperceptions about HIV.

Stating that someone is likely to contact Aids from sitting on a ride seat is just poor information! I can't imagine in this day and age folks aren't better educated about this disease.

http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/pubs/facts/transmission.htm

Okay once again I know this I was only making a point-not literally meaning you can-but you are also not going to be infected using the blankets. I wasn't trying to misinform people I guess my post just came out wrong.

Years ago when we have stayed at the WL for the 1st time, my DS broke out is a rash on his face, neck and arms. The rash was from what ever they washed their sheets in. I called down to housekeeping and told them about the rash, and they brought us specially washed sheets and towels.
A couple of years later we decided to stay at WL again, when I made the resv. I told the CM about the rash and she noted "allergies" on the resv. A couple of days before we left for DW I got a call at home from Mousekeeping asking about the severity of the allergies. She asked if they needed to clean the carpet and change the curtains. I told her no it was just with the bedding.
When we arrived checked in, and went to the room, we were met by mousekeeping who informed us the the specially washed bedding was being brought up. When we entered the room the bunk bed was completely stripped.
So now when we go to DW, I ask for specially washed sheets, and blankets and don't use the comforters.

I have a simple solution for this problem. When you arrive call housekeeping and request some extra pillows. When the housekeeper arrives with them, pull out a $20 bill and ask him to strip the beds and get all freshly cleaned linens to replace them. Most likely he will be very happy to do it. Don't call to request this, if you do you never know what you are going to get. This is alot of work for them to do. They don't want, or like to do it. You may get someone who brings dirty linens or just never shows up.

I asked a cm to change them once and he was like, "no I really don't have the time to do it, you have to call housekeeping". Then I pulled out the $20, he got a big smile on his face and said, "sure I'll do that right now". From then on the guy was like my personnel servant. It seemed like everytime I turned around he was there asking if I needed anyting. He stationed himself out in front of my room and did all his work from there. He brought tons of pens, postcards, and notepads for the kids.

If you take care of someone they will take care of you.

Okay okay I am going to delete that b/c no one understood that I know you can't I was just making a POINTE on how very slim to none chances you have of contacting AIDS that way or from hotel rooms. I'm sorry no one got it didn't mean to offend anyone.

Someone mentioned getting Herpes Simplex from a restroom...

Do you know what that is? It's not herpes like the nasty , icky herpes they warn you about in sex ed. classes. It's basically like outbreaks of canker and cold sores. Probably about 1/2 the population has this in a mild form and probably has since kindergarten.

I'm really glad to hear his.I really hoped you didn't actually believe that..There are still people out there who do believe this sort of thing and that's pretty scary

Thanks, Mickeyflirt, for amending your post - I see what you thought you were saying, it just didn't quite read the way you meant it to, and some dummy will read that and only see "You can get AIDS from riding after someone" and then we'll be even further behind in the "war" to inform everyone about this disease.

Carry on - it sounds like you do good work and are a caring person, so sorry for jumping down your throat!!!!

I guess I am done with this thread also - but just wanted to say -
you think a teenager might be lying about sexual activity? Oh my, maybe it is just me - but I do not know any teenager that WOULD be honest given that situation!! I do not think teenagers are overly confident of the whole doctor/patient confidentiality thing! LOL

AND - while THEORETICALLY it is possible for someone to contract HepB from coming in contact with it and - what - picking their nose? That is a one in a bazillion chance I would think. HepB is just not that easily spread! It is not a disease spread by casual contact! As a matter of a fact - a nurse who caught HepB from a HepB positive patient that spit in her eye was sooo unusual it was written about in edical journals. As far as I am concerned tho - being a nurse and coming in contact with probably a large # of Hep B positive patients - how could they be absolutely sure it was this instance responsible for the transmission?

I do TONS of research on all kinds of diseases, my oldest son had a bad reaction to his 2 and 4 month vaccines (after which we stopped vaccinating) and was later diagnosed as having autism. I have 3 younger unvaccinated children - so while I do not live in FEAR of diseases I research them like crazy so I know as much as possible about them. Knowledge is power!! :sunny:

Im really sorry to hear about your son's bad reaction to his vaccination. I can't imagine how scary that was but its good you do research. I think you and I are actually agreeing on the fact that it's theoretically possible to get it, but it's unlikely. Of course you cannot catch it from casual contact, but if someones bodily fluids are there it will be viable for nearly 2 weeks, making it possible to get. I just view it from the point that "If its possible a little bit of paranoia goes a long way." ;) Heres a fun fact to, they actually consider spitting on someone in New Orleans assault b/c of the chance of getting hepatitis like the nurse did. Its a remote chance but they made it policy b/c of that.

And I like to have faith in teenagers. There is really no logical reason for them to lie b/c of the new policies designed to protect their privacy, but I imagine that some do. You are right about that, not all of them are comfortable around even the nicest of doctors, nurses, or volunteers. I know that I at least was 100% honest about that when I was in high school, and would like to think the same of other people at that age.

What you all think about water parks??? (and not nec. Disney ones) Up until now, I've avoided them completely! Seeing the signs that warn: "if you have Aids, Hepititis, venereal disease, open wounds, etc, etc, please do not use these facilities". You know the signs I mean. Anyway, my thought was always, the people who have some of these things just might not know...and/or might not care!! Or perhaps they do not want to be embarrased in a group situation and just go forward anyway.

Soooooooooooo...I know they chlorinate....and the germ life cycle is short....and the signs are probably mostly to protect the water park from liability....but stillllllllllllllllllllllllllll. anyone grossed out by them? Don't even get me started on public hot tubs!!

Why I say up until now...is that now I have children who in a few yrs are going to be so eager to go to these themed water parks....and I guess if it's a Disney type super clean park...I'll probably let them IF THEY don't have any open cuts that might contract something. Of course if splashing water gets in their mouth I guess it's just as bad. What do you think???

:rotfl2: I cannot believe people think that can contract stds this way. It is both  and :(

Sorry, EsmeraldaX, but Herpes simplex IS the "nasty, icky herpes they warn you about in sex ed classes." I know exactly what it is. I was just lucky enough to pick it up in my eyes and not elsewhere! You are thinking of Herpes zoster. Trust me, I was well educated as I was battling this for years!

I thought so too (that they were the same family) like the cold sore one is the same as the other one pretty much just different location

I have to agree herpes is the nasty down below disease that is also the same thing as a other herpes outbreaks such as a cold sore. Herpes Z is the other form and its shingles.

You know I also think it is really sad that people think this. I also get upset when I hear someone say something like "You can contact AIDS from eating off that fork b/c he/she just ate off of it and they have AIDS/Hep" and there are many people who believe these sorts of things. I guess my point of my previous post was (and please everyone I am not trying to say you can get AIDS or Hep this way) that you would have as much possibility with one as the other which is slim to NONE. Also people believing they are going to catch one or another out of a swimming pool -not going to happen. Ecoli or another stomach bug- Maybe but probly not. I worked in a restaurant and if you are going to get sick anywhere its a one of them.
I am so sorry for the confusion that I caused and my post didn't sound like it was meant to.

So this is how mass hysteria is produced?

Germs are all around you. So are really disgusting things. Sure, it's gross. But, I don't think about it.

For those worried about germs: Make sure you bring some Palmolive dish wipes to clean the coffeemaker and glasses in your hotel room. Also don't wear shorts and sit down in public either. Don't touch any public items like doors, handles, think about the hat your getting ready to purchase, who put it on their head first?, etc. Life is too short to live in a bubble.

AGAIN we are not talking about living in a bubble! There is a big difference between sitting where someone else sat then sleeping on something that someone else may have been naked on or who knows what on. There is a big difference in sleeping where someone you dont know just slept and going on a ride after someone else.

I'm sorry some of you just cant get that
