We had a morning wedding and served a breakfast/brunch buffet afterwards. To tell you the truth I am not sure of every item... but I know I did choose eggs benedict although I hate them:sick: I thought the guests would love them and I was right.

I hardly ate anyway- I remember the waitress, an older lady- taking my plate and sighing... "the bride NEVER eats ANYTHING!"

Our cake had a lemon filling... it was wonderful!

We had a choice of chicken or beef, and there was a pasta dish available for everyone. I can't remember what else was served with the meat, it was a long time ago. I don't think I ate at all, and after the wedding dh and I went to Denny's :rotfl:

Well like I mentioned before, our wedding reception was "dry," but we had punch, sparkling grape juice, sweet tea, coffee, bottled water, and I think maybe sodas? It was an afternoon wedding, and we had hot and cold finger foods served buffet style - I don't remember exactly, but I know there were veggies with dip, mini quiche, chicken satay, mini sandwiches...don't remember what else. Bride's and groom's cakes (I'm in the South of course!) and I do remember those! Bride's was white cake with raspberry and whipped cream filling and buttercream frosting, and groom's was chocolate cake with white chocolate mousse and grand marnier filling and chocolate buttercream frosting, chocolate ganache, and fresh strawberries.

I can't remember everything from the cocktail hour but I do remember we had to choose 4 hot passed Hors d'oeuvre, 4 cold passed Hors d'oeuvre, a cheese station, and Italian station and an American station which served sliders, hotdogs, and pulled pork sandwiches. We also had 2 hot chaffing sections.

For dinner we had - Pasta-Rigatoni Pomadora, Salad-Caeser, Entree-Prime Rib, Chicken Florentine or the Blackened Mahi Mahi. (Vegetarian choice and children's menu available)
;
If I remember correctly, our cake was a 3 layer cake. The layers were chocolate cake with canoli, white cake with vanilla pudding and banana slices and marble cake with chocolate pudding.

We also had a chocolate fountain and an open bar.

Since PP is sharing a photo of her cake, I would love to share mine since it was one of my fav. things from my wedding!

We had a Southern, mid-afternoon wedding. Reception had med/heavy hord'oeuvres, wedding cake, groom's cake, punch, coffee, tea, and champagne for toasts.

I never even saw the room with the food, so I don't know what there was. I do know we had Swedish meatballs, crudite, cheese plate, fruit, and maybe shrimp? Also stuffed mushroom caps and I think bacon-wrapped water chesnuts. My DH and parents said the food was plentiful and tasted great.

I was waylaid in the room with the cakes, so I didn't get to eat anything. I made sure to get my fair share (and then some, lol) of the champagne, though...:drinking1

I have never seen a groom's cake, what is the significance of it? Is it just for the groom?

It's a southern thing - the groom's cake is traditionally chocolate, but it can also be a fun shape or something that reflects the groom's interests. My brother's groom's cake was a chocolate espresso cake, and DH's best friend's groom's cake was actually a chocolate cream pie (the groom's favorite dessert) with cans of Dr. Pepper in an ice bucket!

Here is the groom's "cake" pie:

in keeping with every other wedding i ever went to, we just served finger foods at our wedding reception, along with the cake. there were nuts, dinner mints, and finger sandwiches-probably a couple other things, but it was 19 years ago, i don't really recall. the groom's cake wasn't chocolate, which i'm sure was probably a HUUUUGE no-no, but DH HATES chocolate cake, so his mom made his favorite cake for the reception-a lemon supreme bundt cake. i have to say, it was delicious.
the only weddings i've ever seen where dinner was served are on TV.

Does the groom get his own cake because the bride gets to pretty much pick out everything else for the wedding?
I think its a sweet tradition, I have never seen it up here in the Northeast.

we got married in 1997 and I still have the three ring binder I kept to organize everything. kind of fun to flip thru now!

for h'ors d'oevres we had a veggie platter, crab stuffed mushrooms, scallops wrapped in bacon, cheese and crackers.

meal (and no, we didn't offer a choice, it cost a lot more that way and we were paying for our own) was apple almond stuffed chicken (it was really yummy and nice for a fall wedding) along with garlic mashed and I think asparagus. we did provide vegetarian meals for those who were vegetarian, I can't remember what that meal consisted of but it got high marks from our friends who had it.

we offered wine and champange and sodas/coffee/teas on the house. our wedding was at a historical inn that had a bar, so those who wanted other things were able to pay for their own liquor if they didn't want wine/soda/coffee/tea. we could not afford open bar, but wanted to provide for our guests as best we could, so we felt like this was a good compromise, and our guests seemed happy with the arrangement. most of our friends had the same set-up with their weddings.

I know there was a dessert that came with the meal, but I can't remember what it was. our cake was yummy, we alternated layers of a strawberry gran marnier cake with layers of a chocolate decadence cake.

after the meal/during dancing and such we had a coffee station that I believe had some cookies and extra cake, but I can't quite remember.

Pretty much! My DH didn't pick out the specifics of his cake - he just told me he wanted chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, and fresh, non-chocolate-covered strawberries with the stems removed. In fact if we had thought outside the box a little, he would have gotten a cookie cake, since that is his favorite kind of cake!

For the cocktail hour, the country club provides cheese and crackers, veggies and dip, and per our 7- and 5-year-old nieces' request, a fruit platter.

For dinner, a choice of prime rib, chicken marsala, or baked scrod with seafood stuffing. This bride has already chosen the prime rib and I plan to eat every bite of it! :teeth: All served with rosemary new potatoes and carrots (also chosen by our nieces).

We also get dessert, hot fudge sundaes, chosen by the girls. Instead of a traditional cake, we're doing a cupcake tower. Half will be vanilla, half will be chocolate (to placate our nieces - can you tell the little ones had a lot of say in our reception? ;) )

We were married 21 years ago -- DH's family didn't drink or dance; mine did. I also wanted to invite everyone from the church (not just selected VIPs, etc.).

We had a "tea reception" which started around 8 p.m. (ceremony was at 7) -- served punch, coffee, etc. Had a sweet table with candies, mints and nuts, as well as an awesome cake, and heavy hors d'oeurves. The only one I remember was the blackened monkfish -- DH insisted on it during the tasting. We actually never really got to eat much, as we were too busy talking, etc.

I don't even remember WHAT all we had but it was delicious...

This is the picture from our tasting. The beef medallions were tender, the grilled chicken had a wonderful taste to it and the sauce was light and the broccoli had a garlic butter to die for! The rosemary red skinned potatoes weren't bad either lol. I'm pretty sure we had a few other things but god knows I can't remember them... that day went by so fast!

Our cake was awesome too!

White wedding and marble cake layers, and then a groom's cake which was chocolate peanut butter, with real chunks of peanut butter inside! Yum!

Ceasar salad, Schnitzel with Feticinni alfredo and veggies, 3 different types of cheesecake. Our late lunch was our wedding cupcakes which half were vanilla with custard filling and chocolate buttercream and shaved white chocolate, and the other half vanilla with coconut buttercream and coconut stuffed with coconut custard. And we had pizza, sandwiches, fruit and vegetables.

This is horrible but I honestly don't remember! There were definitely passed hors d'ouevres, but the only one I remember is bacon-wrapped scallops. I am pretty sure there were stuffed mushrooms also, but I have no idea what the others were.

For entrees, I remember there was definitely a chicken dish that came with a sauce with mushrooms in it and asparagus on the side. I don't remember the other two choices. I was a vegetarian then so one choice was probably veg.

I DO remember our cake! It was delicious. Almond cake with almond buttercream frosting. It was so good that my family took the top layer we had frozen after the wedding and ate it while we were on our honeymoon! They bought us a fresh replica cake for our first anniversary. We've been married 14 years. :)

We had what is sometimes called a RI chicken dinner. Roast chicken with rosemary roasted potatoes, zitti and meatballs, vegetable.

We had a white wedding cake with pink frosted roses on it.

That's the idea- a cake that is the groom's favorite. A family friend made and decorated our groom's cake as a wedding gift. It was Devil's Food cake with chocolate frosting and was decorated like a "treasure chest" with gold foil chocolate coins and "jewels" spilling out. It was really yummy- much better than the professionally done wedding cake.

I was so disappointed with the wedding cake- we ordered it without sampling it first. Our caterer, a family friend, suggested we hire his sister to do the cake. She was a pastry chef at a big hotel in ATL. The cake was beautiful, but tasted awful. The buttercream frosting tasted like she didn't add any sugar- it was like soft butter spread all over the cake. Not good!! :crazy2:

We didn't have anything, well we kind of did. See we went to the court house and got hitched because I was 3 months pregnant and my father said "get married, ASAP!":lmao: (we were together 3 years and engaged) So, it was July, very hot, very early in the morning and I was sick like a dog! Anyway we had about 30 family members there with us and we all went to a local diner for breakfast afterwards!:rotfl:

In 2009 DH and I had a vow renewal at WDW because we wanted the big wedding we didn't have. On the menu was:

Appetizer: Tomato and Basil with Mozzarella

Caesar salad plated tableside

Entree: A dual plate of Filet Mignon with worsteshire(sp?) sauce, chicken marsala, garlic mashed potatoes & veggies:

The cake was two different flavors. Top layer(if my memory is correct) was marble cake with chocolate buttercream filling, bottom layer was chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream filling. We had a fall theme and our cake was inspired by that and Tim Burton because Nightmare b4 Xmas is our favorite movie!
