Inspired by Wedding food: Your wedding menu-!

My 30th anniversary is in a few weeks so my memory is a little fuzzy. I remember my mom, grandmothers and a couple of family friends sitting in my mom's kitchen for 3 days making the food. There was potato and macaroni salads, sausage and meatballs, hot roast beef and a deli tray. There may have been more but that's what I do remember. The cake was a traditional 4 or 5 tier pound cake with white frosting and blue flowers.

I never got to eat because every time I got a plate somebody dragged me away for something. DH, the wedding party and I all went to IHOP after the reception in our tuxes and gowns. I was starving!

Desnik, your Fall themed cake was beauitiful!

We got married on the beach in Jamaica at 11am with 60 friends and family present. We then had vans take all of us to a restaurant that sat on a cliff overlooking Ocho Rios and the Caribbean Sea. So it ended up being lunch time. The restaurant had an Italian Jamaican fusion menu which was yummy. We had a mixed greens salad, choice of appetizer either fried mozzarella or shrimp cocktail. Choice from 4 dinner entrees:
1. ‘JERK’ Spaghetti-Spicy jerk sausage sautéed with garlic, onions, marinara sauce and a touch of jerk seasoning.
2. Homemade Gnocchi ala vodka
3. Ravioli ‘ECCELLENZA’ Jumbo Cheese filled Ravioli tossed in an alfredo-tomato sauce with shrimp sautéed in garlic olive oil & laced with Sambuca Liqueur
4. Rosemary Marinated Grilled Chicken Breast

Vanilla Cake, Raspberry Filling, Buttercream Frosting (not sure I ate any except for the bite we fed each other, lol)

We had open bar featuring island specialty drinks such as the Hummingbird and Jamaica's own Red Stripe beer. We even poured Red Stripe in our toasting glasses instead of champagne. We also had a reggae band playing.

That was way more than you asked for. Sorry! Can you tell I love talking about our wedding? Lol!

My 9th anniversary is next week! My family did all the food for our wedding. We had lasagna, salads, rolls, ham of some kind, and fixings to make sandwiches out of the ham if you wanted to. There were some finger rolls, I think, as well. My mom made a dozen lasagnas ahead of time and froze them, and then we heated them in the convection oven at the reception hall. Our cake was white cake with white frosting, with silk daisies on it that looked so real I thought they were real until we were cutting the cake! A friend made our cake as our wedding gift, and it was delicious! We had punch and coffee and tea, and there was a cash bar. I know a cash bar is a faux pas in other places, but in our family and in our social circles it's what everyone does. Our food was great, there was plenty of it (my family ate leftovers while we were on our honeymoon), and all our friends still talk about what a lovely reception we had. I paid for most of the food and my family provided the labor. We fed 150+ people for just over $200.

I'm the youngest of 8 (last one married) and my mom did the food for 7 of her kids' weddings. She swore she'd NEVER coordinate wedding food again...till 2008 when her oldest granddaughter called in tears: "Grammy, all the caterers want $2000 to make finger sandwiches and salad!" So mom called all her kids and gave orders! That time, though, she was much better at delegating! The aunts and grown cousins all brought something, and it was a great party.

I'm pleased to see so many people here have posted about having simpler foods at a reception and/or having family do the food. In our family, that's always how it's been done. There's no such thing as a small wedding when you have 7 married siblings and dozens of nieces and nephews, and we couldn't afford to have a wedding catered for such a big group. Many of our friends' weddings have been similar, with family and friends, or the church women's fellowship group doing the food (for a donation).

I can't remember too much, 15 years ago, but I know one of the items on the cocktail hour was the largest shrimp cocktail I ever saw. Soup was italian wedding soup. Dinner was some kind of chicken breast. I know it cost us about $55 per person x 100 people. Cake had cannoli filling. Inlaws paid for a venetian table. That is tables that are rolled into the banquet hall after dinner with all sorts of pastries and desserts.

I love the idea of a groom's cake, it's not done around here.

Baked breaded chicken, rigatoni, stuffed cabbages, ham, parsley potatoes, corn, probably a salad and of course COOKIES. I am from Western Pa and this is typical fare for a firehall wedding reception.

Sounds like my wedding. Though I didn't have it at a firehall. No offense to anyone that did I just wanted something a little fancier. A local Catholic church just built a brand new hall and thats where DH and I had our reception. There was a 2 year waiting list for this church hall. It was beautiful.

We played the chicken dance, hokey pokey, and polkas as well as "normal" music. I had a money dance complete with peach schnapp and whiskey shots . I smashed cake in my husbands face and when he was taking off my garter he shoved womans underwear up his sleeve, pulled them out and acted like he pulled off my underwear. Got a good laugh. We even had a real band and not a DJ. I loved my wedding.

We were married 21 years as of last week. :)

I know people will laugh at me, but we had a Texas BBQ buffet after the obligatory fruit/cheese/crackers. Brisket, sausage, potatoes, beans and all of the usual condiments which here include: Onions, pickles, and loaves of white bread. This was a country wedding. I am originally a "city" girl, but all of my city type friends told me they loved the casual atmosphere and dance that followed the meal (live band with country dancing).

We also did a traditional Grand March. Has anyone else heard of that? Before I met my DH and attended his friends' wedding I hadn't ever seen anything like it!
Wedding started at 2:30 and ended after 11pm.

That is a beautiful, and unusual, wedding cake! Love the Nightmare Before Christmas touches.

Well, I hope you all don't mind me chiming me because I am not yet married, but my boyfriend (of nearly 10 years) and I have spoken about it. We don't plan on having a big wedding... I simply don't see the point of spending the money and we want it to be real intimate. However, we do want to have a huge reception/party to celebrate with our family and friends.

So, our plan is to have a cocktail hour with a selection of hot and cold appetizers (fruit, egg rolls, sliders, vegetables, ect) and a (limited selection) sushi bar. We would have alcohol, though not a full bad. Most likely a selection of beer, wine, saki, and a themed drink (as well as alcohol free selections).

Dinner would most likely be served and not a buffet. We would have offerings of beef, fish, chicken, and vegetarian. No mushrooms with any entree besides possibly the vegetarian because my mother is allergic and I don't want to limit her choices (but she would never order vegetarian lol). We would serve soup or a salad and then the main meal.

We would then offer a dessert buffet with some of our favorite things. We would also have our cake which would be multi tiered with each tier a different flavor.

The BEST grooms cake I have ever seen was at my friend's wedding. The cake was a giant tower of Krispy Kreme donuts. He loved it!

We had a late morning wedding and a buffet luncheon reception with passed hors d'oeuvres. I don't remember everything we had but I do know we had some kind of carved beef, a chicken dish (I think piccata) and a vegetarian option (I think stuffed shells) plus lots of side dishes.

DH is a meat and potato kind of guy and I lean much more towards the vegetarian side so just focusing on what we like pretty much took care of everyone's food likes.

Salad, beef or chicken, cake, hors d'ourevres beforehand. Chocolate sundaes as an added thing.
