inspired by my ex husband -- are cheerleaders "snobs"?

In my high school the cheerleaders are not part of the "popular" crowd. A lot of them are part of student council and other progams like that. Most of the popular kids dont even play sports or anything like that. In my other school that I went to it was the same way. So it seems to me that the cheerleaders are the ones in the less "popluar" group (at least in my area). So I dont think the cheerleaders at my school are snobby. But the kids who are popular can be snobby.

At my school, i dont see any of the cheerleaders as snobs (could part of that be because i am one myself). I am pretty close with everyone on the squad because we have been through so much allready (some of the girls i have known for 6 years). To me, we are just the more loud, and crazy people on campus. Maybe to some people it may seem like we are snobby because we dont really care if we are making a fool of ourselfs by acting crazy, we are just having fun.

It takes hard work to be a cheerleader, the time dedication and then keeping up in classes, AND doing college stuff at the same time. But i can handle it, i come to school every day with a smile on my face :)

Better question, are all ex-husbands a-holes with silly opinions???

No, there are many ex-husbands who are decent people with intelligent things to say, pay their child support, adore their children and do everything they can for their kids. Let's not lump all ex-husbands together.

May I also point out that you could ask the same question about ex-wives.

I think it used to be snob appeal, but more and more in our district they are looked upon as not "real athletes" and too fluffy. Everyone is really into sports around here. Personally I think it's great for kids to find their niche and belong to an extracurricular activity. My DS and DD are into sports, I'm sure they will be on a team, my older DS is into music and the band so I hope that is where he will fit in. I was on field hockey and they are my very best memories of high school. I think your dD should be proud.

LOL, I'm surprised at some of the answers here. If BR had posted that her DD was shooting heroin, there would be so much pixie dust floating around I would need a dose of Benadryl to get through the pages of replies.
Congrats to your DD, this is an accomplishment and I hope she does really well with it. I think it is critical to keep your kids involved through the MS and HS years in activities, it is the absolute best way to keep them on a path that ends well, IMO. Snobs can be found anywhere, I think there are preconceived notions about pretty much any teen group (ie band geeks, computer nerds, dumb jocks, snobbish cheerleaders etc). There will always be people who label others(based mostly in jealousy, I suspect)...better them think her a snob than pity her for lack of ambition. JMHO.

I don't know. I never tried to talk to them. It seems they were always voted in for homecoming court, etc, which I don't understand since most of our class made fun of them. I guess it was due to name recognition from the other classes. They were officially "popular," and yet no one liked them.

some are...like at my school the JV cheerleaders are kinda snobby!
but not the Varsity ones! they are all SOOOOO sweet and everything...I'm friends with quite a few of them

know on compititive cheerleading..yeah kinda...my best friend is on a competitive team and some of the other girls go to my school and she says a bunch of them our snobby

maybe we perceive them as snooby b/c we think cheerleaders on snobby(same thing with my best friend..since I knew her name before she came to school I thought she was trouble but we actually starting talking and now we are best friends!)

but I disagree about cheerleading! I think it's a great sport! I mean my best friend is a cheerleader!! and believe me..it's hard work! I mean doesn't cheer on anyone..she goes to nationals and all that stuff! it's all about the routine and I know she works hard at it too! so I don't think it's a waste of time at all!
