Ah man, here we go..
This thread is very convenient because my last day working at Sam's Club (which is a
Walmart store) was today and I am not so happy..
First to address the union thing, it says flat out in their orientation videos that there is no need for a union at Walmart or Sam's Club because they have an open door policy. As a result of this policy you can go to your managers/supervisors and speak to them openly and judgement free. It also said this in all the CBL's I was required to do (CBL's are basically quizzes on a computer that all employees are required to take regarding Walmart and Sam's Clubs policies).
Basically I didn't mind working there. Sure it was quite a bit of work lifting 50lb bags of dog food and numerous cases of water, gatorade and other items all day but you got used to it. One thing I didn't like was the fact they were very difficult in letting me get days off. When I was hired I had told them that I would be needing quite a few days off because of graduation, college issues, etc. and they had told me it would be no problem. I had been working there maybe 2 weeks when I went to my supervisors and told them the days that would be coming up that I needed off. They got fairly angry at this and told me that I needed to tell them 3 weeks in advance because the schedules are already drawn up and to go back in and maneuver it around was inconsiderate. While they were telling me this I was wondering how I could tell them 3 weeks in advance if I had just started working there 2 weeks ago (I did get the days off though). The rest of the time I tried my best to fill out the time sheet for the days I needed off.
I didn't get my raise either. I had been there 90 days so I got evaluated. I didn't pass. There were 2 reasons why, the 1st being that I had called out sick twice. 1 day was legit the other day was for college reasons (I had to go to PA on short notice..I had no other choice). The 2nd reason was because I wasn't a good follower of the 10-foot rule. Basically the 10-foot rule is where an employee must smile, say hi, and/or assist customers/members anywhere within a 10-foot radius of them. At Sam's it also includes thanking the member by name. I didn't care though because I was evaluted on the 13th and my last day was supposed to be the 17th so it wouldn't have made that much of a difference.
So today was my last day working at Sam's, it was supposed to be tomorrow though. I had told my supervisor 3 weeks or so in advance that July 17th would be my last day. She said it would be fine. I also talked to her a few times in between about it. Today after I got home from work I got a call from one of the COS's (check out supervisors) saying that I didn't need to come in tomorrow because they had enough people. I told her that it was no problem because it was supposed to be my last day anyway. She had no idea. So I asked to talk to the head supervisor and when I talked to her she said that I was supposed to give her written warning that I would be leaving and that it was very unprofessional of me to tell her the day before. She also went on to say that I am very unreliable and she doesn't think that she would take me back during my college breaks as a result. That was it..I guess I'm not going back (with the exception of picking up my last paychecks).
So in a nutshell that was my experience at Sam's Club, hope you enjoyed it..
Oh well at least I go to Disney World on Thursday..
