 I just don't know if I can ever get on one again, after my last horseback riding experience in the northern maountains of Idaho / Montana, I just don't trust horses anymore. I was on a horse who was in heat:eek:   And the loosers who directed the horseback riding, ( Ma and Pa!!) kept on beating my horse ( While I was on it!!) when she would not follow the others. I almost messed myself when I thought I was going over a cliff!!!! It was the longest 2 hours of my life. Unfortunately I was with Clients and my boss, so I couldn't cry when I thought I was a goner!

Otherwise I love horses, they are beautiful!

never trust a horse or a women with a gun :p

I'd love to see a horse with a gun, PD.:teeth:

Uncle Tony, I bet that horse knew what you were wearing under your clothes.;)

The last time I was on a horse was beautiful. I was in the swiss alps, and it was so pretty it didn't look real.

Maybe it was all a dream or the matrix liked you so it let you think you were in the alps :p

the last time i was on a horse, he went off of his front two legs and did that bucking thing, and i've never been on a horse since.

Tony, that is hysterical!! Just the visual.... ;)

The last time I was on a horse was at a resort (non-Disney, go figure!!) and as we were climbing a hill, the horse in front of me kept breaking wind. I was more worried that something was going to come out than I was of being down "wind"!!! :teeth:

Last time I was on a horse was probably 25 years ago. The trail had a lot of deep, big holes in it that the horses were skirting around the edges of. My horse the SLOWEST of the bunch, so slow I thought I would lose everyone else. A good friend took pity and hung back with me. Then his horse fell INTO one of the big holes and somehow my friend wound up UNDER the horse and it became rather nightmarish. My friend was hurt and the rest of the group was a good 1/2 mile or so ahead of us. Never again.

The horror part was not horse related -- but it all happened on a ride through the mountains at Lake Louise in Alberta. I was 11 at the time and had on brand-spanking-new boots so when I went to dismount at the top ridge, I slipped and fell. Wouldn't have been a big deal except it was a RIDGE, which meant there was a DROP right beside me and a slid about 30 feet straight down before the ground leveled off enough to stop me. When I looked over the edge of where I had stopped, there was a plunge straight down the side of the mountain into the lake! Then I looked at my arm and noticed that the bone had bent straight up about 3 inches behind the wrist. Didn't break the skin, just super gross and freaky looking. Our guide had to put me in his lap and ride us (parents on their own horses behind) back down the mountain (90 minutes) since no vehicle could make it there. The horse, then, was my savior, instead!

You had to see me and my boss. Very much city people in the mountains of Idaho! And I get a lunatic horse. And Ma couldn't understand that my name was Tony!!??

Oh my goodness, there are so many I could tell! I've ridden since I was four, and my horse has...emm.. a sense of humor ;)

My favorite is probably a trail ride that I went on with some friends about two years ago. I call our rides at my friend Susie's house "Susie's Trail Rides of Death" because they usually go on for at least six hours, and someone always comes back bleeding. We usually go off the main trails to explore the woods, and at one point while riding down a side trail, we came to a huge pile of tree branches around three and a half feet high, which was completly blocking the trail. I walked my horse up to it to try to look for a way around, and while I was looking, he decided to take it upon himself to find a way over, and jumped it!! I'd just recently been teaching him to jump, and we'd been working on about two foot fences, so to have him hop over something that tall was quite a surprise! In fact, I ended up sitting on his neck when he landed ;) Everyone was fascinated that I didn't fall off, which started a legacy, but more about that in a minute :teeth:

Later in that same ride, the lady in front of me let go of a low tree branch that she had pulled out of the way, and it smacked my horse in the chest. He took off, and before I could slow him down, there was a tree branch at neck-level. I didn't have time to duck, so the thing hit my neck, and it took a second before I could get free from it. The branch was about an inch thick, so it bent with me, keeping the pressure on my throat while I was going forward, but it didnt break. When I got past it, I literally though I had been decapitated, which caused me to say "Wow, I'm dead, and I'm still on the horse! I never do fall off, do I?" ;) I had a HUGE red mark across my neck for about a week after that!

A week later at a riding lesson, it had rained that morning, and while I was running, my horse slipped in a patch of mud. She fell over flat sideways, right on top of my leg, as... you guessed it- I was still in the saddle ;) "I'm on the ground, and I'm still on the horse!" That one resulted in some huge bruises all up and down my right side, which I was actually quite proud of because I got to compare them with the girl who does roman riding at work, who had been having a rough week. (Roman riding is when you stand with one foot on the back of each of two horses. Her team had been acting up and splitting her apart, causing her to do the splits and then fall off- OUCH!)

There are a million stories, but I'm late for work, so I guess those have to wait! ;)

My first horse, Jonesy...

When I was younger I went on a trail ride with a bunch of friends, being the smallest of the group for some reason they put me on the smallest horse. Also put me in the back of the line. Everything was going smoothly until a snake decided to cross my path. Spooked my horse. Horse freaks out and takes off. My mouth says whoa but apparantly my feet were bouncing around and saying go because go he did.......right into a tree. Not a big fan of horses since then.

I used to greenbreak horses years ago. I had one horse who had already been worked by another trainer and was ridable but a little skiddish. He was working really well to the saddle so one day I decided to work him bareback. I hopped on with no problem but I guess he had never been riden bareback and just freaked (like he thought he had a predator on his back.)

He took off running at top speed toward a barbed wire fence and would not stop or turn for me. I thought I'd just jump off which isn't very hard when you are bareback. I had done it many times in my life...you just slide off. I neglected to notice the ice and snow on the ground. I landed on my feet but slipped under the horse's belly. He then tripped and fell right on my chest and abdomen and then struggled to get up while lying on me. Luckily, I didn't get kicked in the struggle. Once he got up, I jumped up and felt no pain except having the breath knocked out of me. I caught the horse, calmed him down and took off the bridle. Then I went into the house and started feeling my muscles tensing up. I took some aspirin and laid down. An hour later, I couldn't move. I tried to sit up in bed but couldn't so my husband called an ambulance because there was no way I could sit in a car to get to the emergency room.

I was in the hospital for a few days for soreness. Nothing major was broken except for several transverse processes (those little spiney bones on the vertabrae.) It didn't keep me away from horses. A few months later, I conceived twins. In fact, I rode horses up until the day of delivery with my twins (who were both 7 pounders at birth.)

What a beautiful horse, Laura!

I have to play the proud mom and show my boy off, too ;) This is Emmett (aka Annetts Freckles)
