Insects at WDW

We have been to WDW more times than I care to count. It just dawned on me that we have never experienced a bug problem in the parks at night near the water. Where are all the mosquitos? Do they have cast members whose job it is to catch all of them or do they have bats on the payroll. Anyone know what they do for insect control?

I noticed an insane amount of bugs (little gnat things) at Fantasmic... YIKES!

I've seen the knats at night sometimes, but not too many other bugs..... hmmmm.... you may be on to something....:rotfl2:

I noticed the lack of insects myself (y'all, I just killed a mosquito on my arm....I'm in my living room sitting on the couch). DH kept feeding a pair of ducks on our patio at the CR and I noticed that 2-3 days later the tiny crumbs were still there. They don't even have ants on property! Wish I knew their secrets on bug control. We can't even go outside in the summer in central NC!!!

We noticed these at Fantasmic as well! We were right down in front and those little buggers were everywhere!:scared1: I guess they are better than mosquitos though....:thumbsup2 We also saw quite a few lovebugs and a palmetto bug or two. But, that's about it.

They probably spray is my guess. I saw alot of those spray trucks the last time we were there in July.

Great. I'm not only getting a Christmas ornament each time I visit, I'm bringing home cancer too (or some other horrible 'souvenir').

I've always thought the lack of bugs at Disney is amazing. I never bother bringing Off or any of that other bug stuff because we never need it. I especially think of it at night because I love to sit out on the balcony and here at home when I do that it's a bug free for all. At Disney though, I don't think I've ever even seen a mosquito let alone been bitten by one. And I have a thing about bees (got stung in the EYE by one once) and I can't even recall seeing a bee and I usually notice them. We saw a few lovebugs in early May last year, but they weren't bad, and that's about it, lovebugs and the gnats at Fantasmic, but those things are drawn to all that light and I doubt there's much Disney can do about those.

I have always been suspicious about this. My family is sensitive to chemicals, so I asked around once. I got two completely different answers.

1) They spray at like 3am . . . . like crop dusting . . . once a week or something.

2) They don't spray, they release copious amounts of dragonflies because this is the environmentally correct way to take care of mosquitoes.

Don't know which (if either is true).:confused3

WDW uses a minimum amount of chemicals. They do there best to use nature as a preventive measure. They will use lady bugs and dragon flies. Also there are rumors they use spermint to repell the bugs.
