Injury Stats at Fl. Parks

Has a history of reported injuries at the different FL parks with ride names and injury.

I personally can't get over some of these that said person had pre-existing condition (usually heart). I'm not saying in anyway that they deserved it, but there are 'restrictions' posted in the entrance to each ride. To me, again, personally, my life is not worth the chance.

I don't recall the one at AK where an employee fell on PW and was killed, it was only 2 yrs ago.

No it doesn't, it means that the condition existed before the incident.

Schmitty is right. In most cases it is discovered that the person had an undiagnosed heart condition. It is still considered preexisting because the person had it when they got on the ride. This was the case with the little boy who died on Mission Space.

People don't realize how many people fall in or die in theme parks, and the vast majority are pre existing conditions. The other common problem is somebody doing what they should not: either a guest purposely defeating a safety mechanism/going where they should not be, or an employee ignoring safety protocols because they have become complacent. (when the employee is hurt).

I wouldn't let my kids ride Mission Space for the longest time because of the stuff I heard... I still havent because I have A-Fib and am scared of it.. but I allowed my kids too this last time. They loved it...

Really, theme parks are quite safe. True accidents are very rare, as all employees are trained in safety procedures and rides have multiple fail safes designed to keep guests safe.

If you look at the Snopes page for Disneyland, you will see that the vast majority of injuries/fatalities are the direct result of misbehavior or a pre existing condition.

I have a friend who worked at Mission Space and there really were not a lot of issues when he worked there, and this was before they disabled the spinning on the second bay.

I have ridden it both ways, and it you're worried, the second bay is great! There is no spinning but the rest of the effects are in place. This means no G-forces on you. I like it better than the spinning side.

Makes ya wonder if the person actually watched how the ride goes before deciding to ride it.....

Same goes for Mission Space. They tell you umpteen times about spinning and such so that you're really warned about it...

No--it means it was a congential heart defect or some other developed heart condition that was undiagnosed. It happens sadly--

A more notable one in a suprisingly healthy athlete was the death of a marathon runner in the Olympic Trials for the most recent summer Olympics. He collapsed by mile 5---too early for it to be the elements. It turns out he had an enlarged heart that he didn't know about (it is manageble when you do know about it). The very thing that made him a great athlete took his life b/c he didn't know about it. (I forget his name--Ryan Hall comes to mind, but I think he's still alive.)


I also know someone's husband passed away of the same issue last year. In his case--he wasn't doing anything athletic at the time but had experienced symptoms the day prior to his death that if he went to the doctor, he could have been saved. His symptoms were experienced in a bank (coincidentally, his disorientation led to him forgetting a huge deposit on one of the counters before the teller stations and it ended up getting stolen.)

That was mentioned in the Orlanod media when it happened.

She was actually in an area that you should not be in when the ride is operating. I believe it was guests who found her and called 911, but I can't recall.

That happened to me! But it was the Dinoland ride that is like Dumbo. I took DD and her friend on it and it was a very slow day so we went on it 4 times in a row. I get very very motion sick and take dramamine but after 4 times around I had to get off. I was "not feeling well"! But I just sat down and let the girls go by themselves for the 5th and 6th rides. No formal report!

We can't overlook people who eat before going on a ride that gives their stomachs a good shaking up.

I've never really been big on thrill rides and as I get older I avoid them as much as possible just in case a health problem has gone undiagnosed. I'd rather discover it with a medical test than on a thrill ride. That's why my favorite ride at WDW is still a shady bench.

My dad usually sits out on most of the more thrilling rides because of his back. He likes the bench too!

When we went to Disney last year the last day we convinced my mom to ride test track. She is not a ride lover and she kept joking about what if I have a heart condition. We told her she was crazy and she gave in. She kept saying we were trying to kill her to collect life insurance. Three weeks after we got home she was hospitalized for two week with heart fib problems. We had no idea she had a problem. Now she jokes that we REALLY were trying to kill her on the ride.

I guess people never know what is going on in there bodies, but if people keep blaming the rides you are going to have to have a doctor's release to ride. HAHA!
