Initial Points Purchase

We are curious to see what people invest for their initial points purchase. When you made your first purchase, how many points dod you obtain?

we originally bought 150 in Jan 2002, and we ended up doing 50 point more last fall before even being "home" as members once.

You might want to edit your poll to avoid a little confusion. For example, we initially bought 200 points. Do I check the category for 175 - 200 or the category for 200 - 225?

We originally bought 150 pts at WLV and 1 month later added on 100 pts. at WLV. Then when BCV opened we added on 150 pts there. We now have 400 pts.

Our original purchase was for 170 points. About a year or two later we added on 200 pts and then added on another 150 pts. We are up to 520 pts and will probably not be able to buy anymore. I should be putting that dues money into an IRA..............

We originally purchased 170 points last July at BCV. Just purchased our first (tee, hee) add-on of 50 points at HH.

220 points total

Surely for just the two of us that should be enough???

I just closed on my purchase of 200 BCV points about a week ago and have already called and am adding 100 points more to take advantage of the new MB offering. 300 points....Not sure how long that will last, but since it's just me and my 3 kids, I hope it will last a while!

There are just two of us. We purchased 300 at HH initially and added 160 at OKW before taking our first DVC vacation. Would love to buy more but have a hard time justifying more points for just the two of us.

We initially purchased 230 pts at OKW in Jan 1994. Have added on 3 times all at OKW and now own 600 pts total

Well, in the olden days, the minimum purchase was higher. When I bought in 1993 it was 230 and I think that was a recent reduction from a slightly higher number. (Feeling much older than I really am when relating DVC "ancient history").

170 at BCV as initial purchase, followed by a 300 resale at OKW. Then we did a 45 add-on 3 months later when we visited. I voted the original 170

Thank you for putting this poll together. I didn't realize that I am in the minority (262). I know that I am also in the minority because I purchased a non-round amount too (i.e. 250, 255, 260, 265, etc). Since add-ons have to be round, I wanted to be adventerous and not have a round amount from the beginning. Really couragous, huh.

We started with 450, but added 150 the next day. We just closed on contract #.009, bringing our point total to 1100.

This point thing is like some sort of drug. You start with 180 pts then all the sudden you want/need more and more. Then one January you get the dues for 600pts. When the DW asked what happened I used the standard, I don't know I'll check into that. Now she says we couldn't do with less points what where we thinking with only 180.

Started with 230 at OKW in 99, then added 70 more there 3 months later.Last year added 200 pts at VB

. So I think the 500 pts should hold us for a while.

Since add-ons have to be round

Add-ons don't have to be in increments of 5 as long as you're over the minimum. I used add-ons that have brought me up to an "uneven" total.

Our initial investment was for 170 points back in 1997, but 3 contracts and 2 add-ons later, we have 700 points, which I have to finish paying for before I can get what I really desire: 100 points at OKW! Since our kids are grown now, our points seem to have become "family" points, so who knows if that's going to be enough?

175 in December. I'm sure these are famous last words, but I *believe* these will be all the points we will need. If we choose our dates carefully, we can get 2 nice vacations a year out of these points.

We started out with 640. We put a lot of thought into this figureing we would buy enough so that we wouldn't have to do those costly add-ons when the prices were higher. Well we have added on twice since and now have 900. So that theroy went out the door!
