39 days until the first revenue sailing of the Dream! (seriously, I feel for those of you booked on that cruise)

We should take bets, how close do we think this gets to Aug 9th before DCL either cancels it, or begins to tell people the protocols? My money is on Tuesday July 6th. That's 34 days before it is supposed to sail. (Of course, I also think that when they do say something it is going to be cancelling the rest of August)

this is crazy. I would be going nuts and would be hard to stay focused. I let my September cruise and November cruises go because I couldn’t deal with the not knowing. I’ll be watching how this works out.

I had been thinking it would be Monday then realized that is technically the holiday so probably not. I'm with you on Tuesday. :thumbsup2

On the bright side I was just able to get a better time for my ADR at the Boathouse on 8/10 if we end up with the back up plan. I really want to book park reservation though! :hyper:

That is where we are stuck as well for Labor Day. I have hotel booked at WDW as a backup, but our annual passes lapsed so I can't book park reservations. I don't want to try to renew the passes until I know if the cruise is happening.

If I had an August cruise, I would be climbing the walls. Heck, we have a November cruise booked and I am really antsy. When DCL changed the PIF policy at the end of May for our cruise, I went ahead and schedule WDW November 14-22. At least I was able to get something as a backup plan. It has to be modified/PIF by 10/14. So help me, if DCL waits that long to tell us, I don't know what I will do.

I am with you. I bet they will cancel the fist few sailings on Tuesday. I can remember where I read/heard it, but it said that they pushed their test cruise a whole month. That would put the test cruise end of July into August. They will need some time to fine tune and publish any protocols after returning. Makes me think August sailings are just not feasible.

There is also the option that come later this month test sailings wont be required, which would give some more buffer time to the August cruises. That would make those sailings much more feasible. Either way, I think we will hear something on Tuesday. I'm with you that I am betting all of August will be cancelled unfortunately.

My guess is they are currently working with CDC on the faulty positive test results and when they can feasibly get the test cruise scheduled ASAP. That’s why they haven’t said anything yet, because they just don’t know ….

UGH! They really make getting these back up plans in place difficult!

When the test sailing was canceled I had seen quotes from the Disney folks that said something to the effect of "we're going to reschedule for next month", but that was said with only 2 1/2 days left in June, so uh, yeah that's kind of a no brainer.

But I saw news outlets take "we're going to reschedule next month" and stretch that to "we're not going to reschedule until next month" or "we're going to reschedule in a month"... I didn't see anyplace that Disney actually said anything beyond "tests were weird, we'll do it next month"...

The good news is that, once they actually do have the test cruise, things can fall into place very quickly. I've seen people throw around "a minimum of 14 days wait to see if cases pop up and then for them to compile their report and turn it in to the CDC and then the CDC has time to make their decisions and blah blah, then after the approval Disney has to prepare for revenue cruises, so it's 30-45 days minimum." But the 14 days is just the maximum period that the Cruise Lines are required to report any cases that do pop up. (if a case shows up on day 15, no having to amend a report that was already turned in). They can turn in their assessment report the second they're back at the dock, and the CDC can look at it and say, "yeah, looks good."

The Freedom of the Seas did its test sailing on 6/20, returning 6/22.
The CDC approved them for revenue sailings on 6/29 (one week later)
They sail tomorrow, 7/2 (Three days after approval)
That's just 10 days between 'see ya real soon' and a official Sailing.

Nobody knew what to expect from a timeline, but I think that's probably way better than anyone was hoping. Looks like Disney had a month built in between Testing and Sailing to accommodate for possible Plan revisions and/or additional required test cruises, and maybe that cushion is exactly what will help things stay on track.

The Dream was (is) crewed up already in anticipation of the test sailing. They're going to be anxious to put that crew to work. I'm still fairly optimistic that the August Dream Sailings will go as scheduled, or that no more than a week's worth gets canceled.

But a little info from Disney would help.

This is the one thing that give me a little hope.

Originally the Dream was doing a test cruise from 6/29 to 7/1, and then a 39 day wait before the first Revenue Cruise (Aug 9th). I think Disney was being over-cautious and perhaps there were other factors in addition to the test cruise that went into that Aug 9th date.

Let's say hypothetical they delay the test cruise 2 weeks, leaving July 13-15. That still leaves 25 days before the first revenue sailing. As Royal showed, that can be done. The real question is, is Disney willing to commit the cruise and start communication of info and protocols before the test cruise completes, or is their over cautious nature going to mean they don't want to set that expectation. What happens if the test cruise got delayed again? Disney plays it safe (sometimes too safe).

We just booked the 8/20 and 8/23 sailings on the dream. Hoping they sail, restrictions onboard don’t bother us. If they are cancelling, I hope they do it before we hit 30 days out - I don’t want my dvc points I used for stays on either end going into holding!

If we don't sail, I'll see ya @ Disney Springs on the 10th . We have an ADR at Homecomin' as a back up for that night.

We are scheduled on the Dream for the August 16th sailing. At this point if the odds are 50/50 of cancellation vs. cruising, I would prefer to just cancel so I can rebook other plans. We have close to 15K tied up on a trip that is 6 weeks away, and have no idea if we are sailing. I can’t just cancel myself because we have a concierge room. Anxiously awaiting an update!

I don't think anyone one person is making it difficult for back up plans. You still have a virus running the show. It is just so complicated, too many variables. Just a little bit of life reality, sometimes things are out of everyone's control

I guess my facetious tone didn't come through there.:rotfl:

I feel for everyone cruising in August. It's obvious those cruise will get cancelled.

And still, DCL remains silent...

That article also says masks AND vaccines required.

Either they know inside info, or it's a lot of guessing.

Let's say vaccines are required. Someone on the 8/9 sailing who has not been vaxxed yet has 2 or 3 days to get their first shot of Pfizer or Moderna and be "fully vaxxed" by that date. Just another reason it's beyond ludicrous that there is still nothing but *crickets* from DCL.

DCL should be removing August and some of September from their website soon.
