information for deciding on UY

I know there is a thread that explains how to decide on the best UY depending on when I would normally travel, but can't seem to find it.

Can someone please point be to it?

short answer: if you always go in oct, buy an oct UY. you want to travel early in your UY.

if you hate going to wdw in summer, an oct UY is also great. if you own an oct UY, you do NOT want to travel in jul-aug-sept (i.e. the end of your UY).

use year is only an issue though if you have to cancel. it has nothing to do with when you can call to book. you can call to book your home resort at 11 months out no matter which UY month you have.

This the key, charles nailed it. Cancelling late in your UY could mean you will lose your points.

This may be the best and easiest to understand explanation of UY I've seen.

I think I understand better, now.

So if we like to travel in early December, had I purchased a resale contract with no 2010 points available, I could have made my ressie in March 2011 for a trip in December 2011 and would be able to use the points from the UY Dec 2011-Nov 30 2012?

you could have made a reservation for dec 2011 as early as jan 2011.

but yes, start by looking at the use year of your trip - a dec 2011 trip is in your 2011 use year for a contract with a dec UY. and that tells you that you can use current pts from your 2011 UY, borrowed pts from your 2012 UY if you want and/or banked pts from your 2010 UY (if any).
