I had read about a Kimono "celebration" for girls that is done in Japan (I think) for girls. Where if you buy a kimono there is the whole presentation about it. Can anyone shed light on this that has done it? Also, are there prices anywhere for these Kimonos. I was thinking it might be a good idea for our DD 7 and 6 when we go in February. Any information would be great. Thank you.

I believe it isn't just girls or kids but anyone who wants to buy one. My friends did it when they got engaged but they are Epcot CMs so not sure if it was something special they worked out with friends or not.

I think you may be thinking of the kitsuke ( a demonstration of how to put on a kimono) that they hold on the annual Girls Day ( some day in March, I think.)

The sales assistants are more than happy to help you try on a yukata and show you how to wear it properly ( with or without an obi). But a full kimono involves several separate garments and is a very involved process. I've never seen them do that for anyone.

I've bought several kimono there, and there was never any kind of celebration. Prices vary considerably depending on the quality of the garment you buy. Thin polyester yukata are inexpensive. Traditional cotton yukata or kimono are more. Silk kimono are very, very expensive. And you can spend a lot more on the accessory pieces.
