I was talking with Member Services yesterday and the CM told me that in 2005 they were going to rearrange the points. Early December was going to be either Dream or even Magic time and they were going to significantly reduce the weekend penalty while raising the weekday points. The same CM also told me they were going to change the home resort priority back to the original 11/10 month one in place back in 1995.

Is this an April Fools Joke?

As far as changing the points, I am in the minority because it would be very good for us. We always come down on a friday and stay through the following saturday, so we get hit with two weekends of points.

I also would like to know what the 11/10 is, since we just bought one year ago this is new to me.

Sounds like bad information.

There was never a 10/11 month booking window.

They sent out a survey five or six years ago that addressed these questions exactly. The survey came out against weekday/weekends reallocation. It also came out against changing the 7/11 month booking THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN EXISTANCE.

Re-allocating early december sounds like a bad move for Disney also. While it may be one of the more booked times for DVC, it is staill VERY light crowds for Disney. For Disney, early December being low points filling up hotels that would otherwise be empty and filling parks with more heads than would be there without the cheap DVC point stays.

No, I don't think any of that will happen.

What is 11/10?

Currently, the Home Resort priority period is from the 11 month to the 7 month mark. DVC has the option to reduce the Home Resort priority to as little as 1 month. This would make it 11/10 vs. 11/7 as it is now.

DVC did include the idea of changing the Home Resort Priority in a survey a few years back. At that time, they let it stand. By changing the priority, it would cut down on the number of members who reserve their home resort and then switch to the resort they really want.

I'm also curious whether this post is "true" or an April Fool's?

Oooops, sorry, I didn't look at the calander....got me!!!

It was so plausible, CMs are often sources for bad information.

I think before people start FREAKING out (and you know they will) something in the body of the message should say

APRIL FOOL'S!!!

Come on guys, don't do this to the newbies :jester:

I'm not a newbie and this post absolutely got to me! I really hope it is an April Fool's Day joke (even though it isn't very funny).

I'm worried that it was not intended to be a joke. IIRC, someone else posted a while back that one of the MS CMs said something similar to what the OP was told.

Just noticed that the poster only has 7 posts. He/She would have to have been lurking for a long while to get us so good, considering the detail in the post. Again, I'm not so sure it was meant to be a joke. A CM could very well have said what the OP reports!

If it's true, I want to hear it direct from DVC, not piece meal from the CMs. Until I do, I will have to treat info like this as an unsubstantiated rumor - This is a rumor. This is a rumor. Repeat after me, this is a rumor, this is a rumor. It's not true. It's not true. If I say it often enough, that's how it will be. It's a rumor, it's a rumor. It's not true. It's not ture. :p

If it's true, DVC will need time to prepare for a lot of complaints! Unless they are willing to share the data that supports every change they make, they will absolutely get one from me!

Can you tell I don't deal well with changes? :teeth: :o :p   :teeth:

The written home priority was only 1 month on paper where one could make none home resort reservations at 10 months but by the time there was any other DVC resorts for this to be useful, it had changed to the current 11/7 situation.

I could be wrong, but I believe you are mistaken Dean. I think that it was always 7-11 but there is language stating that it could never be anything less than 10-11.

okay, which one of you re-enrolled on the DIS under the alias RentDVC?

Isn't there some kind of rule against that? ;) :)

great april fools day joke though!:)

Rich you are wrong. Here's the quote from the first POS I recieived dated 5/93 page 173 under Exhibit A
Club Members who own Ownership Interests at other DVC Resorts may only attempt to reserve the use of that accommodation for that Use Day during the period ten (10) months in advance of that Use Day

I also found something interesting. On page 169 is a full Roman Numberal IV titled RENTALS,
A Club Member may make a reservation to use the accommodations of the Condominium or other DVC Resorts, if any, himself, make their use available to family or friends or guests, or rent them solely through his own efforts. DVD's approval of a rental by a Club Member is not required after a reservation has been made in the renter's own name, and Club Members are permitted to rent their occupancy rights on terms and conditions that they may establish.
This also occurs in later versions of the POS as well.

It is Aprils fools you know. I thought everyone would see right through it so that signing it April Fools would be way too obvious. Not trying to upset anyone, at least not too much.

Good one, RentDVC!!

In the same POS referenced by Dean (5/93), there is another interesting reference :

Under Reservation Procedures #1, b.

The Home Resort Wait List. In the event that another DVC Resort is associated with the club (other than the Condominium) and Merber Services experiences an unanticipated high level of use demand for a given DVC Resort, Member Services may decide from time to time to establish a special Home Resort Wait List for the purpose of allowing Club Members to have an additional opportunity to reserve Use Days at their Home Resort, pursuant to the following procedures:

(1) In the event that a Club Member is unable to reserve accommodations at his Home Resort during the limited Home Resort priority period, his name would be placed on the Home Resort Wait List and Member Services would continue to search during the initial 30-day priority period and the remainder of the Use Year for a reservation. Any accommodation that becomes available at the Home Resort due to cancellations during the remainder of the Use Year will be offered to Club Members on the Home Resort Wait List before being offered to any Club Members on the Extend List or the Wait List.

(2) If the Club Member's request is not fulfilled from the home Resort Wait list, then the Club Member would have the opportunity to remain on the Home Resort Wait List for the following calendar year.

(3) In the following year, those Club Members whose Home Resort requests are pending from the prior year will have a first come, first served priority for reservations prior to the initial 30-day Home Resort priority period.

Additional Home Resort Wait List restrictions may also be implemented by Members Services from time to time, including but not limited to the following:

- A Club Member may have only one listing on the Home Resort Wait List at one time.

- A Club Member may only utilize the Home Resort Wait List once every two years.

- A Club Member may not be placed on the list to receive the same Use Days two years in a row.

The POS can be a very interesting read! :smooth:

Thank goodness! I've nearly lost my voice with all that chanting (It's a rumor. It's not true. and etc., etc., etc.).

But as all can see, it worked! :p  :p :D :teeth: :teeth:
