Infant with Ear Infections WWYD

Ok I need some thoughts from others...

DS (8months) has had a double ear infection since September. He was on Amoxicilian, followed by Augmentin, then Cefdinir, then Azithromycin, then a shot of antibiotics and then Augementin again and nothing has cleared it up. Our ped. is sending us to the ENT to talk tubes. The first appointment they had available was tomorrow. The problem is I am a teacher and that is our first day back from break. I can't take him after work because I get out at 4 and I can't make it to the office in time for an afternoon appointment (it's about a 40 minute drive).

Typically I let DH handle appointments because he works evenings/nights but I feel like since we are talking surgery I should be there. I also feel like I shouldn't miss any time the day after break. So I am torn. I feel that DH does a good job with handling these things, but he isn't me and doesn't always ask the questions I would ask.

So what would you do? Would you take the time to go to the appointment or just let DH handle it and report back.

I'd let my husband handle it and report back. But, I totally get how you feel. I'm a control freak and prefer hearing things firsthand so I can ask my questions.
Our daughter is being treated by a specialist for a chronic condition and my hubby has to take her to most appointments because I don't get paid time off. It drives me batty. Especially when things have changed from her last visit.
But, really, there is nothing DH couldn't handle. I just have a hard time handing over that control of the situation. :rolleyes1

I'd let your DH handle it. Over time, it will be impossible for you both to be at every appointment that your child will have. You'll have to start somewhere with just one of you doing the legwork...in your case your DH because of schedules. In my house its me. I do almost all the doctor and dental appointments with the kids. DH goes when I can't. We've never, ever been to appointments together and my kids are 16 and 18. It will be fine!

At least all of your kids had positive results with tubes ds had constant ear infections always took him to the dr. He was on antibiodics for most of his young life . I begged pleaded for tubes but he wouldn't hear of it. That was around the same time that a study came out that ear infections don't always need treatment , so for years nothing was done then it happened when ds entered kindergarten he was diagnosed with profound hearing loss due to constant ear infections it broke my heart i felt like the worst parent in the world ,a nd all the dr said was its not that big of a deal my son has some hearing loss:confused3 that dosen't mean i want my son to be hard of hearing.

I'm sure you dh is capeable of taking him to his app and getting the info correct i would let him i i know my dh would do it.

my now 9 year old had tubes when she was 18 months....I went but it was over so quickly - and they worked great for her.
I would let dh handle it, with a list of concerns/questions and not sure about conferencing in? you can be in the room when the surgery is done and then its just recovery...

The only thing that I would add to what has already been said here is to ask what type of tubes the doctor will use. There is something called a "T-tube" that lasts quite a bit longer. (generally 2-5 years). My DD (17yo)will always need tubes because of the way that her ears are formed. She doesn't get infections but fluid builds up. The first time, the ENT put regular tubes in but they came out within a few months. The others work but better for her.

Edited to add
DD#2 (22yo now) had tubes when she was about 1 1/2yo. They couldn't get the infection to clear up. I was scared to death when I woke her from her nap when we got home and found blood and crystalized infection all over her crib. No one told us that it was going to drain out her ear so I freaked. I called the ENT in a panic. Everything was fine and she never needed another set.
