we are trying to conceive and if all goes well we will have an infant with us in Aug 2014. i was looking at numbers on the site and it seems the cost will rise by about 500. I thought infants were free. no huge deal, I was just almost positive id been told in the past by dcl that infants are free. anyone know anything about this? thx in advance!

I don't know the actual cost, but they're not free. At the minimum you will pay the port fees and taxes.

And, be sure to make the reservation with the baby on it initially. You can cancel the baby (if it turns out that way) up until the PIF date with no penalties. But, if you wait to add the baby (if there will be one), you take a chance that there won't be space for it and the cost will be whatever it is at that time, not the time you booked the original reservation.

Also, keep in mind that your infant must be at least 12 weeks old to sail.

Don't know of situations where infants are free. We weren't able to book DD until we had a DOB.

hmm.....we may be moving dates then. guess we‘ll see how it goes. not sure where i got the idea about infants being free. could Just be wishful thinking haha!

You are not crazy.....infants under 3 used to pay only port taxes and fees (no cruise fare). A few years ago DCL changed the policy and now all passengers pay a cruise fare plus the taxes and fees.

Not sure how they price an infant's cruise fare but I know you used to be able to give a TBD date of birth and as long as you paid a deposit on the TBD (to be determined) infant you could book them.

thanks! glad i am not crazy! i think I will give dcl a call to see if i can book with a TBD date of birth

It is a reduced amount at least. For our cruise in October the fare for my 1 year old is half the amount of my 4 year old.

I booked before our son was born. We just made up a name and DOB. Then changed it once he was born. You can always cancel the third passenger, but you may not be able to add him.

I think the first child after 2 adults is the same fare no matter the age. The second child (4th fare) would then be half of the first child's fare if under 2 years. Also I booked my upcoming cruise before my son was born. You just have to give the approx age he/she would be at sailing and you can update DOB later.

I booked and the 2nd scenario is what is was like for my 2 kids too. I think around $600 for the 3rd passenger and $300 for the 4th.

Good Luck TTC! I hope you get your summer '14 wish!! If you like this forum you should check out TCOYF.com (if you haven't already).

I have not found this to be the case. I have a 3 year old and twin 1 year olds in 2 cabins, so I've run the numbers every way to make sure the prices weren't different. Their fares have come up exactly the same no matter which room I put the kids in.

Two adults plus:

1 yo=$308/1 yo=$308
3 yo=$618/1 yo=$308
3 yo=$618
1 yo=$308

I was looking at this too. Our son will be 22 months when we go on our first cruise in October. We are planning on having our second sometime next year, and would like to go on another cruise possibly after we have our second child.

From what I've deduced, once your child turns 3 years old, the price goes up. My best guess is that once your child is 3 years old, they can attend the kids club activities, therefore the price for their participation in the activites is included in the fare. Kids under 2 years old typically will stay with their parents, or will be checked into the paid baby sitting service. Their fare probably just covers food, and any additional clean up a little kid requires.

Typically kids under 3 (if they are the 3rd 4th or 5th passenger) are half the rate of the typical 3rd 4th and 5th rate for that cabin (fare only) and full fare on the port taxes.

The 3rd 4th and 5th passenger rate is set based on category and can change.

After 3 the rate goes up. It also goes up again at 10 I think..

There are occasional instances where they offer kids sale free and then everyone (3rd 4th or 5th passenger) under the age of 18 is free with the exception of port taxes (gratuities and incidentals of course)

My daughter has sailed on the 1/2 price rate 3x's now and it is jut our next cruise that her rate goes up.

We booked our Alaskan cruise before we were pregnant and once we were pregnant we added the infant (as Baby "ourlastname) with the expected due date. After she was born we changed the name and DOB. Our DD will be 11 months at time of sailing and her fare was $500 plus taxes.
