In a tight economy, even very experienced workers are having a tough time in the job market. What are you teens with little or no work experience doing to get jobs?

Well, I currently don't have a job because I'm doing college full-time. But last May was when I got my (first) job, and the economy was still pretty screwed up back then.

I have volunteer experience, which I suppose looks good. I also just had a great interview -- being personable, outgoing, etc is very important.

I listed my volunteer experience and all the extracurriculars i'm in.
Also I came in dressed very nicely to get my application, drop off my application, for my interview, and all meetings prior to getting my uniform. I stayed positive and upbeat during the interviews and made it very clear that I would be find doing anything and working fridays and saturdays wasn't a problem. And I got my job by doing that.

i just got my first part time job like a week ago at a bank. no prior experience but ive got a pretty gnarly transcript and the intervirewer and i hit it off quick. i guess i was just lucky.

A friend's mom dropped my name to an ex-coworker who was hiring.

I got the job.

It rocked.

Going back for the summer.

I volunteered for a few years, mostly. It's not much help if you're trying to get a job right now, but I got to know the ins and outs of the work and, especially, built up a rapport with the people in the job I eventually got. And I also went all out when it came to actually getting the job; got a very nice outfit together, looked up all kinds of info on interviewing and acted as professionally as possible. It all came together in the end.

im finding it impossible to get a job. pretty much everyone wants someone with experience and i have none. i'm going to have to get my RSA(responsible service of alcohol) and RCG(responsible conduct of gambling) in order to increase my chances of getting hired.

It was a pain finding my first job. Luckily, my mom had a friend who owned a mini golf course. With that reference, it was somewhat easier to find my second job at acme. Now, with my acme experience, I got hired on the spot to work for shop rite. So, I guess once you find your first job, it gets easier to build off of that.

Maybe if you start off with some volunteer work, then it'll look better on your application.

I've had quite a few jobs before, I started volunteering at 14 yrs old, then got my first part time job at 16 (which was @ a movie theatre, where they often hire inexpirienced teens) it was a good first job, now I have two jobs, one in retail and one at an office as an HR assistant/receptionist.
I'm hoping the office experience will help me out, even though I'm not looking into that sort of job.
I'm currently in university, and I keep my retail job during school so I have a form of income.
I haven't the slightest clue what I'm going to do after uni though

It's not too difficult to find a part time job around my area though, there are always places that need workers. Golf courses, movie theatres, retail stores--not so much, but landscaping, the city, lots of summer jobs open for students.

I haven't got my first job but I'm about to begin looking for it...
I know it was hard for my brother to get his first job so I don't know how I'm going to do since I'm only 15...
My dad's bassically forcing me to get a job and doesn't care about the fact I'm only 15 and don't have any work experience.
I'm pretty fusterated knowing the way the economy is right now and my dad can be a jerk and doesn't exactly look at the full picture...

My first job was as an assistant at this private pre-school summer program thing. They were in desperate need of help and my mom used to work there, so that's how I got the job.

I didn't have that great of an experience tho. It wasn't the kids or even the teachers I was working with that bothered me, it was my bosses. A lot of the people that worked in the office had heads that were swelled up so big that their bodies had a hard time holding them up. And it was like...regardless of how hard I tried, nothing I did was right (I was the youngest one working there at the time. Most of the other people were in their 30's/40's). And I felt like an utter idiot, even though I was trying as hard as I could to be successful. :headache:

It wasn't fun, but I learned from it. And after that I volunteered up at my mom's work for a few months and got experience from that. Currently, I'm focusing more on school and getting through that in one piece, but I'm pretty sure that the experience I gained by working with people at the pre-school as well as with E.T.I. (Elementary Teaching Internship), will help me when I'm looking for a new job later on.

Especially since now I know what to expect, how to deal with certain situations/people in general better, etc.

I'm really lucky that I got my first paying job in 2006 when the economy wasn't quite so awful. I'm currently a full-time student in college so I don't have time to work, but I still keep up my volunteering - in fact today I am going to get a new volunteer job!

My chosen field requests a lot of volunteering and experience in the field along with a degree, so I'm on the right track and I just have to keep hoping the economy will be better by the time I graduate!

I try not to get too depressed about the current situation, we're all in it together, even though it's unfortunate.

I start my first job in June. It's where my mom works, so she basically got the job for me, even though I'm not directly working for her. I haven't officially been hired yet, but I've already sent in the application, and once they get it, they're hiring me. I'm so thankful that I haven't had to go job hunting.

I work at an amusement park in my area. It employs like 4,000 people for seasonal jobs.

If people need jobs they are there. Maybe not the best or most desirable jobs but they are out there.

Go to the grocery store and apply to be a bagger or something like that. They basically hire anyone that is at least 15 (some around here hire at 14).
