I've think I've solved my improper eating.....Eating more red meat during Induction....I've been able to curb my ravenous sugar cravings in the past 2 days by eating red meat....probably not the best solution but if it gets me on the right track...I'm going for it...I love red meat third only to my cravings of Sugar and high carb food....

we will see how the weekend goes.....:D :D :D :D

Kimball, my dh eats only red meat or pork. Never eats chicken or fish. He does eat lobster and shrimp a lot. His cholesterol and triglycerides are perfect. Don't worry about eating red meat.

Do whatever it takes to reach your goals :)

I am on day 4 of induction and I have been amazed at how my appetite has been curbed. I have been eating beef for dinner 2 nights and sausage tonight. Maybe you're on to something!

I've been eating lots of chicken prior...but it just have that satisfaction for the Cannibal in me...:)

Nothing quite so good as a steak rubbed in a little olive oil and rosemary with some garlic powder... Italian style steak.

Except maybe for what a restaurant in Dallas called Casey Steak - steak cooked then covered in monterey jack cheese, mushrooms and onion.

I was born to be a meat eater!

Kim- please let us know how it turns out for you this weekend- I'm interested to know! Hope it 's right!

Eating that red meat shouldn't be a problem. I eat a lot myself, and I haven't had any trouble losing on Atkins yet.

I also have not had a problem losing on Atkins and I eat red meat just about every night!! :):)

They sound delicious. I need to get more creative with steak.

Zurgswife--I hope it works out well for you. I might give it a try too. I am a little disappointed because it will be a week of induction for me tomorrow & I only lost 2lbs.

The good news is that the carbs I thought I would really miss the most, I was able to pass up on today, no problem. (everything bagel toasted w/cream cheese):smooth:

My cravings are poptarts, cookies, ice cream, chips.....I've found in the past 3 days they have dropped while I've over indulged in red meat...:D

Don't worry! I don't think it is possible to "over indulge" in red meat if you are faithfully following Atkins. In fact, although he does say you can't just continually stuff yourself, he also strongly cautions against trying to do Atkins low-fat!

As long as you are not "cheating", eating until you are satisfied is a must! You are already seeing your cravings disappear. Try not to worry about eating "red" meat - according to the studies, it will not increase your risk of heart disease or make you fat (as long as you don't cheat by eating the junk carbs, of course).

On Sunday (tomorrow), I will have been on Induction for 4 weeks and so far I have lost 12.5 pounds total. I've been eating steak, chicken, regular (not extra lean) ground beef, nitrate free bacon, eggs, sausage, salmon, tuna salad with real mayo, cream cheese (original, not fat free), regular hard cheese (not low fat), heavy whipping cream and lots of olives. Amazing, isn't it? I know it is working because of the weight loss and because my blood sugar levels are now in the "normal" ranges (I am a diabetic and that was never true before Atkins). Thanks to the stories I read here (about nativetxn's DH and John, for example), I'm sure my cholesterol levels are improving as well. I still have a little trouble believing that all that "bad/rich" food can make me lose weight and become more healthy, but I can't argue with the results.

Anyway, the point is that you must try very hard to forget about the things you have been hearing all your life about red meat being bad for you. Junk carbs - sugar, white flour and refined starches are the real "evil" culprits!

When you start to get a craving, try to snack asap on something legal that you really like. For me it was a little heavy whipping cream (boy, did I feel wicked drinking that straight, LOL), a Diet Rite soda or one of the Atkins chocolate shakes (and I aften doctored those up a bit with some of the heavy whipping cream). If I was really "in trouble", I had a handful of almonds or walnuts. Now the nuts aren't strictly legal on Induction, but they didn't slow my loss and I figured that they were keeping me from pigging out on the chips/bread/ice cream/cookies/crackers. The nuts never kicked me out of ketosis and I was surprised how they helped me get over the craving for junk carbs.

It gets easier every day and by the time you start to get a little bored with the Induction food choices, you should be ready to move to the next stage.

Now that my cravings have pretty much completely disappeared, I can walk right by the Krispy Kreme Donut displays without even a twitch! You'll be in the same boat very soon! Who would have thought!!!! :teeth:

Keep up the good work! You can do it!

The cravings have really subsided ....this is day 3 of TRUE INDUCTION.....I've been doing low carb eating for about 8-9 weeks now....trying to do Induction TRUE but never making it for an entire week....I'm half way through day 3 without ANY CRAVINGS so I feel real positive that I'll make it throught the weekend (Very Difficult for me), through the week ( also difficult) and to top it off I'm now flat on my back....(hurt it last night)....DH says I injured it during the night because I can no longer clench my teeth at night I injured my back some how...

I will second what CarolMN said about nuts. During the first 2 weeks I would try to avoid them, but after that, some nuts can be really good for controlling cravings. I've found that macadamias are the best, as they only have about 1 gram of net carbs per ounce, and a single ounce (about 14-15 nuts) is usually enough to satisfy you. I also eat sunflower seeds (already hulled), they have about 2 net carbs per ounce. They make really good salad toppings instead of high carb croutons. Nuts and seeds also usually have a good fiber content.

Nuts can be a really useful addition to low carb eating, as long as you don't go overboard. Say 2-3 ounces a day at most.

P.S. zurgswife, I see you're counting down to Harry Potter 5, you must be just as much of a HP fan as I am! I work for a major book chain, and we have a big ol' sign in our store counting down the days to the release. Plus, we're opening at midnight on June 21 just to satisfy demand. It's going to be insane :D

Garrett.....We did the Midnight party 3 years ago...Just DD and myself...this year it will probably at least 5 of us...my DS 10 really isn't enjoying all the HP talk in the house....Even though he loves having DH read the books to him...(he has Dsylexia and I think it just bothersome that he can't enjoy them on his own)....

It worked.....except I went to a wedding drank some beer then came home and had a poptart and chips...( I don't think I would have if I hadn't had the beer....)...So, I'm counting the extra red meat test as a success....I don't have any of the cravings like the past 8 weeks...I think I should drink more water though...
