Independent Audit Blasts Disney For Pulling ‘Bait And Switch’ On Florida: ‘A Mousetrap’

You posted a misleading title that supported your false narrative. Yet even after several days when presented with compelling evidence you haven't changed it speaks volumes.
Title came from original article that I linked to, so if you don't like it, then go ask that author to change it. :love2:

I'm not visiting Seaworld because there is no compelling reason to do so. It has nothing to do with politics. I would rather ride Figment all day long than visit Seaworld.
To be fair to SeaWorld, there are compelling reasons to visit. Especially during the holidays, because a lot of entertainment that might be paywalled by Disney is included in SeaWorld's (and Universal's) annual pass. One can quibble about whether it's as "good", but we have a blast there and, again, it's not paywalled.

In some respects, I'd almost say SeaWorld's comparable holiday offerings are superior. I have to take my daughter to school, soon, but if you are interested I'd be happy to tell you what I mean when I get back. My family already enjoys going there, so me taking the time to give you this information wouldn't do anything to benefit us: rather, I'd be doing it for your benefit. Which I'm happy to do, if you are actually open to hearing what I'd have to say.

This has been my point - Disney has now made themselves part of that equation, and until they remove themselves, they forever lose half of the mass market that they used to be able to count on with ease. B/c everyone will always take a side with them now.

How would they go about 'removing themselves' from the equation?

Whatever happened to freedom of speech? Or does that only apply to speech you agree with?
You do realize that your response has nothing to do with free speech and everything to do with accuracy? Just stating the obvious but your right to carry on Is intact.

why are people triggered by the title of a thread that is the title of an article? Would changing the title of the thread to

Let’s have a discussion on an article titled: “Independent Audit Blasts Disney For Pulling ‘Bait And Switch’ On Florida: ‘A Mousetrap’”

be helpful? Or maybe:

Discussion of a report that you may or may not agree with on The old RCID practices based on a audits that are purported to be independent but some people argue are probably not.

Or possibly…

Really we all know that the new CFTOD is “probably horrible” and the old RCID was “really great and in no way not above board” but let’s talk about this article that may have a triggering title (that must not me named) anyways.

First of all, I'm pretty sure nobody's 'triggered' (I hate when that term gets thrown around).

Secondly, no need to get extreme about the title. Simply saying a new report blasts Disney would probably have been sufficient.

I agree with a previous poster (who I know is an auditor :) ) that said calling this report an 'independent audit' is an insult to independent auditors. This is coming from someone who's married to someone who's been a truly independent auditor for nearly 30 years.

Looks to me that you are far more triggered than anyone has has been - many people seem to think it’s kind of a joke … I think people were trying to have a real conversation with someone that by their own admission doesn’t really care about the topic and was only meant to trigger people in the first place …

How would they go about 'removing themselves' from the equation?

At this point, since they have much more to lose from now on...it would probably take the CEO immediately stepping down (since he was still Chairman during the "opening act") and someone being appointed from outside the company for a fresh start. And that new person coming in with conciliatory tones towards Florida (ignoring the Gov, but a "we love Florida - their support, their people, etc, etc - campaign). That would be my crisis management suggestion.

You can couch the removal as a "going to enjoy retirement", "taking care of family", "health issue" - it doesn't really matter. But b/c Disney became a corporate lightning rod, that's their best path b/c it's one they are gonna do anyway in 2 years b/c the CEO is so old...so it costs them very little and can gain them very much...

Edit to Add: And it helps that no one really loves the CEO now anyway, so his stepping down would not engender a lot of negativity from the current fan base Disney has...

Well, I agree people haven't been triggered. But many people have brought up that this wasn't really an independent audit. How about changing the title to " 'Independent' Audit Blasts Disney... " or "Report blasts Disney... " Many headlines are very deceiving. That doesn't mean they get to be quoted without criticism.

Interesting thought process with all the pertinent facts in line. Brava!

My daughter saw a Wish preview months before and knew it would not do well. What is ironic is Disney is by far the most family friendly media company out there, have you seen what they put out on Netflix, HBO or even network TV with shows like Temptation Island. Total trash approaching soft porn, would anyone want to watch these shows with the kids.
You do realize that those shows are not for kids right? HBO in general is not for kids tbh.

Just a note, Iger was technically no longer affiliated with the company directly when Chapek spoke out and everything progressed. Iger stepped down and retired as Chairman December 2021. Everything surrounding the Parental Rights legislation, and original dissolution of RCID happened in 2022.

That’s not to say he wasn’t an influence on the process but he technically no longer was with the company at the time.

We do realize that Iger is in a perennial state of a succession search (recently extended) - so there is no long-term plan for him to be CEO anyway. I suspect his lame duck status makes him the easier target that he has become (self-inflicted and otherwise) … because he and the board itself isn’t looking at this as his job for the next 20 years anyway. Arguably why they shouldn’t have knee jerked into using him to replace Chapek in the first place (although some suggested he worked against Chapek the entire time).

Regardless of the reasoning, it just needs to happen sooner rather than later. Maybe the next person will stick their head in the sand for the purposes of political expediency, but the mess this person inherits won’t be any less of an issue - so let’s not kid ourselves that appeasement makes everything instantly better either.
