What airline out of Indy usually has the best fares? TIA

Donna

Southwest is usually the cheapest and direct. We're going June 1-10 and am just waiting for Southwest to open their fares to compare then with Dayton(since we live 1/2 way between the two airports).

I drive over three hours from Kentucky straight through Louisville because I can usually get much better rates on SWA out of IND. We live/suffer by the Dings, but we can usually fly the four of us for about $600.

Give Airtran a try also. We flew them in June, and they had better fares than Southwest, believe it or not!!! We liked how many flights they had out of Indy also. :thumbsup2

Was Airtran a large plane like Southwest's planes?

Yes, it was. They also have satellite radio that you can use for FREE!!! The kids really liked this part!! They had radio Disney on the radio, so they were happy!

since ATA left, we have used Northwest, Delta and Airtran. I am not sure Delta has a non stop flight anymore, but Northwest and Airtran usually have good non-stop times and prices.

In the current timetable nonstop flights in the IND-MCO market are operated by Northwest, Southwest and Airtran. Northwest is using DC-9's, Airtran is using the Boeing 717 (a newer version of the DC-9) and Southwest is using the Boeing 737.

I guess I'll start checking prices on some of the other airlines. We usually fly SW out of Louisville but their prices are always higher than Indy. We live just across the river from Louisville so it's very close for us. I have noticed that the prices for flights out of Indy are quite a bit less than the prices out of Louisville so that two hour drive to Indy might just be worth it. Thanks for all the information.

One of the reason you get a better price in IND for the most part is because in Indy, there is greater competition for the MCO market. Airtran helps to moderate the prices there. In Louisville, there isn't much competition for the MCO market so the prices can be higher.

The above link will show the airlines that fly from IND. As mentioned before NWA, SWA and AirTran all fly n/s from IND to MCO. I rarely fly SWA to MCO because of the "cattle call boarding". I find that the other two airlines are as cheap as SWA most of the time. When SWA comes out with their fares then the other two airlines drop their prices. I just flew on NWA from IND to MCO for $117 round trip total fare. The dates were Jan. 28-Feb. 2. I would check all three for prices and times. Also as mentioned NWA is the only one of the three that are fully with DME. It was real handy checking my baggage at the resort and getting my boarding pass, then go directly to security at MCO.

I've been checking some dates for NW and for April 24 - 29, the fare is $177 but for April 24 - 28, it's $117. I'd like to have that extra day but don't know about paying that extra $60 to get it. I've never flown NW but would certainly do it for $117. We flew SW in December and it was nice not to hassle with the luggage to the resort but it was a hassle on the return to the airport. It would be nice not having the hassle on the return trip. I'm going to keep checking. Thanks for all the info.:goodvibes

Gary, I have another question for you. We would need to park our vehicle and leave it at the airport. Do you have info on doing that? Thanks a bunch!

I don't know what to do, right now I can get a flight on Sept 28th-October 6th for 174.00 a person plus tax. For a family of 5 it comes to 967.00 do you think this is a good rate to book now or wait a while.
