Truth be told, I drank 2 bottles of Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill on my wedding day :rotfl2: Ssssh, don't tell anyone, my friends all think I'm sophisticated :lmao:
Uhm, no we don't :confused3 We like the Harbor Mist wines. Very light and fruity :)

We've just discovered Concha Y Toro "Frontera" Cabernet and Merlot mix. At $5.99 a bottle (BJ's wholesale) it is remarkably good! Even my daughter, who can almost always accurately guess the price of any wine with one sip, has conceded that she is amazed it is so cheap. :yay:

This is what I was going to say. This wine is incredible for the price. We recently discovered it, too. My being a stay-at-home Mom right now has forced us to seriously curtail our love of fine wines, but we find this one most enjoyable and the price is just right! I'm planning on having a glass tonight after DD is asleep!

Who you kidding, Blondie? You'll drink anything that pours out of the bottle :rotfl2:

I really like austrailian wines...with Black Opal being my favorite but here in PA it is usually about $12 pre bottle. Black swan isn't too bad.. Right now I'm drinking a Lindeman 555 not too bad..$6.99

I'm actually drinking Black Swan Merlot as we speak! :teeth: It's not too bad - quite fruity and nice!

My husband is a huge wine lover and in our "cellar" (literally, our basement) he has about 200 bottles of wine. However, unlike most wine snobs, his he always has about 20 bottles or so of everyday wine always on hand, along with the good stuff - which candidly, I have little appreciation of! I don't drink red, but love a good rose (not white zin!) and sauvignon blanc. I am one of the ABC crowd (anything BUT chardonnay). We are always on the look out for great wines and am excited to try out some that have been mentioned here.

Our favorites are below, only 1 or 2 cost more than $10:

Forest Glen Cab (my DH's "house wine" at $7.99/bottle)
Montes Cab
Concha y Toro Xplorador and Casillero del Diablo (slightly better than the one mentioned above, and only about $1 more)
Bogle Sauvignon Blanc
Brancott SB
Bonny Doon Vin Gris de Cigare
Elsa Malbec (Argentina)
Borlotti Prosecco
Wishing Tree Shiraz
Nobilo SB
La Granja Basa Rueda (Spain )
Trapiche Malbec
Escudo Rojo Baron Philip (Chilean joint venture with Rothschild)
Goats do Roam Rose
La Vielle Ferme Rose
Monkey Bay SB

A few months ago, the Boston Globe published a list of 10 great wines for under $10. All were available in wine shops in the Boston area. I don't think you'll find them in big stores, though. Here it is:

White

2003 "Les Vignes Retrouvees" Cotes de Saint-Mont "'Rediscovered' traditional vines from the Four musketeer country "Fruity, but crisp and dry; some nice mineral elements; versatile" 8.95;

2004 La Noble Chardonnay Vin de Pays d'Oc - Packed with pure dry chardonnay fruit "Some flesh and weight; unoaked style; lemon-lime keynote" 8.95;

2004 Chateau Le Payral Bergerac Sec - Sauvignon and Semillon from just east of Bordeaux "Brisk, bright sauvignon fruit and a nice stony- flinty- smoky edge" 8.95;

Red

2003 Molissimo Terre Degli Osci IGT Montepulciano and Aglianico from the Italian Adriatic. As the name implies it is "Molise-most" "Some lovely sweet black cherry fruit, plenty of flavor, and a little complexity. A find". 9.95;

2004 Bodegas Tikalo "Alba Liza Tempranillo from La Mancha south of Madrid "Marvelous balance of fruit, earth, and acidity; enough weight for richer dishes; a gem" 8.95;

2004 Excelsior Cabernet Sauvignon For three vintages this has been our most popular Cab. The 94 is the biggest & spiciest yet yet "Big ripe style; powerful smoky bacon-y profile; some chewy textures." 9.95;

I think it's time for a glass of wine now!! This thread has made me thirsty.

Any of the Meridian wines are good, but especially their Merlot. I get it at Town & Country for about $5.99 a bottle because they give $$$ off for buying more. The cab was good - tonight I'm trying the chardonnay to go with my Moroccan Chicken with Olives. There is also a nice, light, white wine I get at T & C; can't remember the name of it but at $3.99/bottle it's good for both cooking and drinking.

But I make alot of my wine too, which ends up being the cheapest and the best. :woohoo:

So what's wrong with a little Boones Farm Strawberry Hill? :lmao:

Seriously, I like the Beringer wines and most are between $6-9.

ahhh, high school days. Many a good Boones "slushie" after the bottle was left in the trunk for days during the winter. :rotfl: Don't forget Peachy Riunite.

I enjoy 2-buck-Chuck, though around these parts it's up to 3-buck-Chuck.

I should add that I'm not a coinnosseur (obviously!). To me a wine is good if it has a pretty label.

Just opened a bottle of Trader Joe's French Market Cabernet (Bordeaux). Not bad at all for $3.99! :thumbsup2

Don't like reds. I keep trying them and just cannot get over the pucker acidity?

I am a fan of the good ole' Beringer Zinfindel or the local Missouri wines, (grew up in MO.).

I really like Beringer White Zin...it is pretty cheap. I am a big fan of St. James Winery in St. James, MO. We always buy bottles and bottles for me when we go to visit my mom. I like their Velvet White, Pink Catawba and Velvet Red (very sweet), and their Reisling (I'm a huge reisling fan! :love: ). I also like their Country White and Country Red. (they have won awards, I'm just not sure which ones...that's kinda lost on me.)

DH and I love St. James wine. Every time we go home we visit the winery and take a few cases home with us :rolleyes1. Red Velvet is our favorite.

I love St. James too, i don't get there often enough!! i have family that live in Waynesville, MO so they are pretty close. Every time I go there, stopping at St. James is a must! Velevt white is my favorite, and I got a couple bottles of their late harvest vignoles for Christmas this year, and also the pink champagne.
I joined St. James' wine club and get a case every three months.. the only problem is i run out long before the next one comes! ;)
