INCREDIBLE MED Cruise prices!!!

Wow!

We had originally been pooh-poohing these sailings for #1) the coordinating hassels of our group who wanted to do this... and #2) the cost and #3) the less than ideal port schedule - as we had a particular port schedule we wanted. And finally, #4) we were about to do a minor home improvement "thing" by adding a solar power array to the house - but last month the PUC and legislature enacted price changes that essentially killed the potential viability of new installs and now Solar power installs are being cited as OFF 78% in California.... So....

... on account of a couple of changes in our "situation" .... I do believe we might reconsider this travel deal. Even if imperfect for sailing as a group with others who expressed interest in other lines and schedules... WE might just go now!

Gotta get the kids to school then I'll burn some time double checking pricing and air fares + ground arrangements. Maybe - just maybe by the end of today or tomorrow I'll start posting on a DIS Med cruise meet thread!?!?!?!?

Hey Crash, join the Captain and I on the repo. I just rebooked from a Cat 11 down to a Cat 12 and saved $1900. Keeping an eye on the airfare and it looks like I can get one way SF to Paris (hitting Disneyland before the cruise) for $638 pp.

We switched yesterday down to a Cat 12, and our reservation today already showed a room that's a Cat 11 on Deck 6. Although not a Cat 9, we're actually now across the hall from our friends whom we're travelling with, so that'll be nice. :)

I'm still in a state of shock. We booked our July 28th med cruise a year ago (first day they were available). Today we had both our category 11 cabins switched to category 12 guarantee for a combined savings of $5900. And they didn't drop a single excursion or spa reservation in the process.
We booked direct through Disney, and while the agents are all very nice, it really depends on who you talk to for the complex stuff. Wow!

Aloha,:cool1:
Hi guys my wife wanted to take advantage of the cheap price of the cat 12. She wanted to switch our res. We would save about 3000.00 but I had to say no because I am claustrophobic and I need to see out. With that said I was just fishing around looking at cat 10 an low and behold there was a SPH 5520.
I called my TA and told her about it. She got it for me and I saved 600.00.:thumbsup2 Not a big savings but hey we are up on the deck 5. My wife's happy we saved some money.:banana::banana:
Our cruise is coming up so fast. I just started packing an got my wife to start to.

5520 is a great cabin. I was in one of those deck 5 "inside" cabins on my first cruise.

I recently noticed this, too. The 11 day cruises in July are ridicuously low. I quoted for a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids), and The cost was a little over $5000, and that included insurance ($538), for the 7/7 cruise, the 7/18 was like $400 more. If I remember correctly, when the cruise prices were announced, the minimum was $2400 for the first two people. I booked a med cruise when I was on the ship in august, and the price was close to $8000, maybe more. I have since cancelled. With Iberia now planning flights to madrid out of dulles.........interesting to say the least.

These discounted rates are averaging less than $100 per person, per day. Not too shabby.

Hi Boyds, MD! I'm in Boyds too! I was sitting on Great Seneca Hwy the other day & heard a commercial on the radio for those flights...I was like WOW!! I priced out these cruises like 3 diff. X over the past yr. & decided we couldn't do it by the time you add on the airfare...NOW they go & make 'em affordable after we make other plans...just figures!! Oh well....

Did you see how low the fair was on the May Transalantic crossing? I got a price Quote 2 adults and 1 kid in a cat 12 for $2,800 !!!! :cool1: :cool1: For a 2 week cruise!!! I could not believe it! Sadly I didn't know about the deal until a month before the sailing and I didn't have time to get a passport. HUGE Bummer! I hope they mark down the return transatlantic like that I'll be on it for sure!

The return transatlantic (in Aug.) is getting cheaper! Tonight it is $4288 for our family of four in a cat 12 gty!

I did the same thing about three or two weeks ago, and was credited $2,000 in my credit card.

same thing happened to us. the total (with airfare and cruise) was pushing 12K, and we had yet to add excursions. we changed to a caribbean cruise (on a different cruise line). i will now be trapped with the in laws for a week. ;)
Maybe the 12K+ would have been better. :teeth:

Those prices are amazing. I am surprised they are discounting so much on quite a few sailings. I was under the impression (from posts on this board) that the cruises had sold well and that there were few cabins remaining.

If we did not already have plans, I swear I would be trying to book that Westbound Repo. I just don't think I could get that cleared through DH.;)

My DMIL was in Cat 11 She spent $4,100.00 for the room (expensive if your by yourself in a room)

Last week we called AAA & asked them to switch her to Cat 12. New price cost only $2158.71 I am in Cat 9 room 2524 was hoping she would end up in a Cat 12 since it is so close to our room.

3 Nights later I saw on the website that she had her room UPGRADE :cool1:
Cat.10 Deluxe Inside Stateroom #2541 Which means she saved 2100.00 & is now only 8 doors down from us.

I am hoping she treats me to a bottle of wine :wizard:

Hope this helps

I don't understand how you are saving money.

I booked a Cat 11 months ago. I asked for a quote from Dreams Unlimited after reading this thread, and its actually $2,000 HIGHER than what I paid for three people (DU quote:$8,600 2 adult/1 child - no ins).

The prices look the same for a Cat 11 as a Cat 12 so I doubt that I could save by asking for 'downgrade'....or could I?

Does it matter that I've already paid in full?

How do I go about this? Thanks for any help.

I know I had booked a cat 12 and when they slashed cat 12 prices i got dreams unlimited to help me get my money, and then i was placed in a cat 11 (thanks again Tracy)

i would assume people are saving even more if they are changing from a cat 11 or 10 etc to a 12.... but then they are being upgraded back out of 12 which is really nice.

DMIL paid in full $4,100.00 for Cat 11
After reading the reports on these boards I called triple a (AAA) & said I would like to down size DMIL in Cat 12 GTY. Price was only $2,100.00

DMIL saved over $2,000.00 A few days later posted on the website was her room Cat 10. She was upgraded from Cat 12 to Cat 10

Look on Disney's website or call the 800 number & ask about your cruise & how much it would cost for your cruise date for Cat 12 GTY. Then call your travel agent & ask her to switch you.

Hope this helps
