Tall, stately and serene, the IRIS is truly the Queen of the Garden. Early blooming, colorful and oh-so-noticeable, the iris captures my eye wherever I go. I love purple with yellow, deep blue (almost purple) and an ice blue that sends shivers down my spine when it blooms!

Iris are easy. Plop them in a sunny space....only an inch or two below the surface of the ground....and watch the sworded foliage reach for the sky....you don't always get a bloom the first year.....and sometimes not the second......but my-oh-my, when you do, it's just breathtaking!

One word of caution! Iris are beautiful cut flowers but they weep....and stain....so be sure to put a matt under your vase....or have some purple stain around as a memory of your iris!

Anyone else an iris lover????

Love them!!! I have several different colors and varieties.

Great pictures Oleana.

I need to plant mor bearded iris for sure.

They are the FLAGS of spring! :) Mine are in full bloom right now. Might need to take a garden walk this weekend and take pictures... so much is in bloom right now... clematis, centranthus, red blaze rose, and of course the iris. :teeth:

I planted some last fall for the first time. No bloom yet. Maybe I'll have to wait for next year?

One of my spring favorites. If I had more sun I'd plant more.

Maybe after the big pine is removed. Looks like there taking it down this week. 2 more pines to go and the front will be drenched in sunshine. By the time I pay the police detail and have the stump ground out, this tree is costing $1550 and I still have the other 2 to remove.

I keep thinking this money could be spent on one heck of a Disney Vacation.

Yes Gina, I am definitely becoming an iris lover.

Great photos Olena!

However, as I become more of an iris lover, I found out I was iris-stupid. I am kicking myself right now. My bearded iris have been blooming for a little while now. To cut to the chase, I cut down several stalks that I thought were finished blooming. Why didn't I know that iris keep blooming on the same stalk?!!

I see now with the few remaining ones that all I need do is just pop off the dead blooms and more are there waiting to show off their glory. I am SO KICKING MYSELF!! I had no idea!

Well, as a consolation, earlier in the spring I moved the siberian iris from the shade in the back to the sun in the front and they are blooming!! So pretty. They look just like Olena's fourth picture! LOL!

Deb - WOW! I never saw an iris like that before! It is absolutely gorgeous!!
