Increasing restrictions on Transfers and Rentals??!!

I was told by DVC legal that there are members that have obtained 20,000 points in a given year to use for "commercial purposes."

Wow!:scared1:

Just out of curiousity, has MS been allowing exceptions to the one transfer rule? I already used my one for this year, but now am thinking I want to take another trip later this year that I will need to rent some additional points for, and I much prefer to transfer and have them in my control. I am hoping MS will consider exception requests by reviewing past history.

Well I found out one use of Disney collecting the names, addresses and phone numbers of the people staying in the room - they are using the information to market DVC. One of my guests got a phone call from a DVC sales rep before they even went on vacation asking if they would be interested in DVC.

I'm the wrong guy to ask about that. I've never done a transfer. I've heard they are sticking to the one but you know it doesn't hurt to ask.

Good luck.

Here is a clarification.

I can personally confirm, that the one transfer per use year is per Member, not per membership. One transfer per person, per year. Not per membership/master contract.

I just got off the phone with MS. I asked about the transfer rule as it pertained to members with multiple memberships. Karen was most knowledgeable and helpful and she also verified her response to me with her manager BEFORE she answered.

She read a section from the POS stating that "transfers are limited to one per Use Year (either in or out of the contract) per MEMBERSHIP". I asked for clarification regarding those who own multiple memberships and was told that each MEMBERSHIP would be allowed one transfer per Use Year. I chose to bank points in one contract today, but she told me that I could have transferred them into one of my other memberships if I had so desired.

For those with one membership but multiple contracts (a master contract and add-ons to the same contract), only ONE transfer would still be allowed since all of those contracts are covered under a single membership.

While there may still be some confusion among others at MS, there was no question in this case what the policy would allow.

I would suggest that any member with multiple MEMBERSHIPS (who has not transferred into or out of your MEMBERSHIP during this Use Year) who wants to transfer points from one membership into another and is denied that opportunity should ask to speak with a manager or call back and make the same request of another CM at MS.

I know of at least one who will make the transfer as described and am confident there are many others at MS who will do the same thing.

I'm still confused. I have 4 contracts (3 resorts) under one contract number.
All the same use year.
Is it considered a transfer if I, for instance, used 5 WL points and 5 BCV points to reserve one night OVR (10points) at Vero. Of course, I mean at the 7 month mark.
Also, if I combine my two 50 point AKL contracts to plan a family reunion in 2010 and use 300 points by borrowing and banking, does any of that involve transferring since it is a split contract?:confused3

No - that would not be a transfer, you would just be making a reservation at 7 months from your contract.

In your case, you have 4 contracts all under one MEMBERSHIP. You would be allowed to transfer, either in or out, once per year. Transferring points between your separate contracts isn't even necessary (since they are already in the same account) and would not be allowed anyway.

You should be all right with your plans since none involve transfers of any knid.

Enjoy!

Thanks, Webmaster Doc. I'm glad to know that. I might have to have a transfer from another member of AKL points to complete my reunion stay.
