Increase in threads getting locked/deleted?

So true. There was a crazy dude a few weeks ago who kept making new accounts to troll people who didn't agree with him and I guess I happened to be one of them. Which is kinda amusing. I kinda miss him.
:rotfl:
If you're talking about the person that I think you're talking about it that person didn't mind if people disagreed with him at all. His zillions of posts kind of show that.

If you're talking about someone else never mind. ;)

In the long run the people who own the boards pay for the servers, and bandwidth, they also hire the mods.

If the owners instruct the mods to moderate in a specific way, well that's the owner's prerogative.

I have a feeling my predication of a few pages back will come true soon.

I will just say that I find it fascinating that the Duggar threads went poof when they were really quite tame, and were proceeding in a decent fashion. Just a short while ago, there were NUMEROUS threads on the Penn State case (same general topic) which went on for pages and pages....never locked unless I am recalling incorrectly. I'm mystified as to why one topic is allowed and the other is deemed "not dis friendly." Same topic so far as I can tell.

I will also add that I completely respect closing/locking threads when they get out of hand, but it does not seem to me that many of the recently closed threads were "out of hand."

I don't actually know who he (or she?) was. But they called me a stooge and a PR team so I'm pretty sure they didn't agree with my posts, which I'm assuming didn't agree with theirs lol. Fwiw, I never reported them cause I found it kinda funny.

Absolutely true IMO. However they can also run off too many people when that might not have been their intent.

I just believe that they should be upfront about the rules so people don't wonder constantly what they did wrong. I also believe that adults should be spoken to as adults but that doesn't seem as troubling to me. :)

Agree.

However, getting points for certain things (ie, the green sharpie) is really difficult to understand. And as a person who enjoys the Dis, I'm sad to see this type of situation occurring.

Were you part of the PR team? I always heard about that.

You are correct about the Penn State threads. They were far nastier than the Duggar thread and they were allowed to go on forever.

Just because that mistake was made in the past, doesn't mean those mistakes need to be repeated.

I don't even know what the pr team was or what it was for honestly lol. It could be disney, fp, this site? I do know I'm a good pr for figment.

LOL!! I read some of the posts you are talking about and thought they were a pretty accurate parody of the situation at the time. But as another poster has pointed out, the owners of this website have the right to run it however they like. They do, of course, need to do so in a manner that promotes participation, not discourage it. Otherwise they run the risk of being passed over by those who sincerely wish to contribute to meaningful content. The thing about forums is many more people read them then create content for them. That certainly applies to me, I've never.posted before now but regularly read different threads of interest to me. If the much smaller number of contributors cease to manufacture content for this site because they feel disrespected then it will die a slow.boring death for sure.

I used to run a forum for a now dormant piece of software that will remain anonymous.

Said forum was teeny compared to the DIS.

But I learned something: forums are a NIGHTMARE for mods. Where does the line get drawn? How do you react? Frankly I'm dead happy not having that weight on my shoulders any more.

I got the impression that the PR team was either set up to push Disney or to push the DIS or maybe both. I don't think that the DIS had anything to do with it.

What was the PR team? Must have missed that?

And there was nothing wrong with the Duggar thread. can we not discuss current events?
