Incentive Questions

I know that DVC is presently offering an 8$/pt incentive. The salesperson I spoke to indicated that this likely would end at the end of May and "since sales pick up in the summer there likley would not be any incentives for the summer months". I know this answer likley has some salesmanship mixed in with some truth but being new to looking at DVC is the current incentive that extraordinary or does Disney typically offer incentives. Any prior examples of incentives would be helpful.

Also, i read on numerous posts that this incentive is offered for 72 hours after the tour but appears to be good until the offer expires when communicating via phone with no tour. Again I am thinking this is some salesmanship and that the offer would be good until it actually expires not this mythical 72 hour window. Am I correct in this assumption.

Reports on this forum indicate that DVC has usually been very strict about the 72 hour limitation on the offer. No reports of any limits with telephone contacts.

The $8 incentive has been a good one compared to previous incentives. The longest running incentive was called Magical Beginnings and basically allowed new buyers the options to "sell back" their first year's points to DVC for a $10 per point credit towards the purchase. Last fall saw a "Friends and Family" incentive program for SSR. There was even a $15 MB incentive for VB for a short while a number of years ago. Members still had to pay the maintenance fees on the points returned to DVC for the MB incentive.

There has been no word from DVC about any end to the current incentives.

Stay tuned!

We toured SSR last year and were told that the dollars off promotion was only good for 72 hrs as well..the guide mentioned it several times. I usually walk away when sales people try to rush a decision, so that is what we did. We left with no intention of buying, mostly due to the strong sales push with time limits, but we were interested in the concept.

The guide called three times over the next month and when we asked, he said the incentive was still valid.

We did some research on the net, saw that there were other avenues to ownership (resales), wound up here and saw the F&F promotion (was a better promotion). So, we ending up joining DVC with that promotion. (If I haven't said it before, we really appreciate this website!!)

If the promotion is still being offered through DVC, my opinion is they will not turn away a sale. I would only buy after you feel comfortable about the decision....whether that's 24 hrs or 24 days. Just keep abreast of the current promotions and realize that they might go away.

Good luck!

What were the details of the F+ F promotion.

Thanks

Effectively, current members or their "friends and families," (that is anyone referred by a current member) paid roughly $83ish per point for SSR vice the list price of $98.

Since last January (when we got into this insanity :goodvibes ) we have watched 3 different promotions for SSR. To my knowledge, nary a day has passed wherein some kind of incentive wasn't in play.

Don't get wrapped around the 72 hour axle... Do your homework and you'll quickly learn (if you haven't already) that a dollar here or there on the initial per-point price quickly gets lost in the 36-48 years of maintenance fees, not to mention annual passes, air fare, food, mouse ears, etc. If you are ready to buy, compare the Disney offering to the resale market, not the moving target of the current incentive, IMO.

They are offering a New Beginnings type deal again. I called my guide for a friend and the $8 per pt at SSR still holds true or you can sell back your first years points and get a $13 per point rebate instead. To me it would make more sense to take the $8 and rent the first years points...

Does anyone know if you can bank those first years points? We are putting a deposit down at the end of may but will not be going till summer of 07'. I was just wondering if anyone knew? Thanks

Yes you can bank those points you get right off. The only thing you can't do is transfer them to some one else until your deed has been recorded and you are official.

Oh my! This has me a bit concerned. We are taking the tour in early June when we are down for a cruise. I have been told time and again that there are "reliable reasons" to think a better promotion is coming (mostly on these boards, but from people I have been told have good guesses! ;) )

Is this true that there aren't ever really discounts in the summer?!

When we first looked into it it was last summer and there were incentives then. So I do not believe that there are no incentives in the summer. We were offered a similar program to the one going on now. Do you have any ides what the new incentive will be.....I am just wondering, since we are not going to use are points this summer, should we wait to see what the new incentive is? Anyone with a good source KNow what is coming?

For those of you put off by the "72 hour sales tactic", I think that is wrapped within a state law. They do not have that 72 hour limit if you are buying on the phone.

VERY sound advice!
