Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

Such a cute shirt! You are way more talented at drawing than I could ever be.

My Disney playlist includes Wishes, Illuminations (reflections of earth version), Spectromagic (the full 14 minute version), Remember The Magic Parade (from 25th anniversary - again full parade version) and Tapestry of Nations. I find Tapestry of Nations and Illuminations to be very relaxing. And the others just make me smile.

I also like Ever Ever After from Enchanted.

Wow, what a powerful and emotional piece of music. Remember 2000 when the parade started off with the speech about coming together to celebrate the new millennium? The start of the 2000 marathon had that as its theme. It was dark and foggy that morning. The national anthem played then a marathon version of that speech started up. They threw in some language about running into the new millennium then the main part of the theme started up. Spotlights hit the bridge that the January race starts near and under and there was one of the parade drummers and a few parade characters on the bridge; along with fireworks.

Nuff reminiscing.

Shannon84- love your t-shirt! Very nice:thumbsup2

Here in Chicago people are getting ready for the Bank of America marathon on 10-10-10. They had a 20-miler training run this past Sunday. I signed up and finished in 4hrs, giving me a 12min/mile :goodvibes

I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Leaving on Thursday!

Okay, so I am way behind the times (think old) on playlist, but I would love to download these for running. Are they available from I-Tunes?

Another question for all you more experienced runners/walkers, I did my long run (walk) last Friday (13 miles), since then I have been doing 4 miles every other day (speed work), and of course my usual cross training. Okay, now to the question, should I get another long run in this weekend (9 or 10 miles), or should I just keep doing 4-5 mile run/walks?

I am not much on tapering for a half, if you feel up to it then 9-10 this weekend. The key here is not really listen to the body and pull back if your body simply says no.

I am starting to get all of my paperwork together and started packing a few items today :cool1: I was wondering if anyone could recommend a handful of disney songs (can be from parks, shows, movies, etc) that would be fun to run to...I need to add a few to my playlist for the race :thumbsup2

Here is a picture of my shirt... I hope you can see it ok..sorry its kinda dark and yes thats a turtle I drew haha

Cool shirt, nice job.

For music - How about "I wanna be like you" the version by Smash Mouth. Maybe a little Areosmith (think Rockin Roller Coaster). Something to get you fired up.

Coach~ I know you don't taper...but 4.8 miles is the longest I have ever ran in my life! I felt like last Sunday was my own personal marathon when I did that ;)

So, for someone like me, who is brand new to running, do you still not recommend tapering? Or should I continue on and run another long one this coming Sunday then shorter ones up until race time?:confused3

Thanks for your advice!:thumbsup2

explain more.... What are you last 4-5 long runs? What are your weekday runs looking like? Feel free to post here or PM.

Hope everyone is doing well... since my HM last Sunday, I've been resting, resting, resting... and then caught an awful cold. Spent the whole day in bed yesterday, and am STILL sick today. Very annoying, as I hadn't planned to take this much time off from running.

Amy, I came away from Philly with a sore throat. I'm hoping it's not going to develop into a nasty cold. I was sickish going to Philly and now I'm sickish coming out. Yikes!

Sending you some :wizard: for a quick recovery!

Thanks, you too. I'm happy to have a nasty cold THIS weekend, so I'm feeling great next week.

Way too many sicknesses going around here. Three of my four kids have been sick, DH has been fighting off a cold and I can tell I'm just a little off. Trying to get as much sleep as possible. At least the weather looks great - I know it is still far off, but hoping it stays the same!:goodvibes

Thank you everyone for all the awesome playlist suggestions!! I am really excited to add new songs tonight and have my music all set for the race :goodvibes Lots of songs I wouldnt have thought of that sound great to add!!

I also have the three "Disney's Greatest" Albums loaded on my iPhone. LOTS of great songs. I also added Enchanted and The Princess and the Frog. "Dig a Little Deeper" is a great racing song.

There is a horrid virus going around my office. I am doing everything I can to not catch it.

I did my last long run (just under 10 miles) last weekend, as I'm out of town this weekend. Doing 5 miles tonight and hoping to get in 5 next Tuesday. I'm hoping that's enough for the half. I did run Disneyland, so I know that I can do it - I just hope that my training between races has been good enough. I'm nervous!

Thanks for the advice, I truly think I'll feel better if I don't taper.

I do not consider myself an exprienced walker..this is my first 1/2.....my trainer has a 11 mile walk scheduled for me tomorrow....according to the progress I have made..I did a 9.1 walk last Friday...good luck with whatever you decide!

A very emotional piece, I agree. But ALWAYS calms me down. When I get all p'ed off at work my coworkers know to put it on for me. :)

I'm not sure where I got all these versions of parades. I've had them for so long. I'd be happy to share them if someone could tell me how to do it.

Yeah, calm might not be the best fit for a race.

Ironically, I found that calm music relaxes my muscles and helps me to run faster. Who would have thought? But I tried it and for me it works. Whatever works!

Thanks for the offer, but I finally got some loaded to my player. DH had a bunch of WDW music from when we had made a WDW slide slow several years ago, I finally found those and with trial and error :goodvibes got them downloaded.
