Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

Just went for a run and had one of my best one. I went .3 farther in the same amount of time that I did 2 days ago. Very excited. Shaved off 45 seconds per mile on my pace! Must be the cooler weather :) :)

Add to this I kind of went at a whim. I just had eaten a Happy Meal 20 min prior so my tummy was pretty full and I did quite well.

Glad the weather has broke, it's making running a bit more fun again!

I agree! I went on a spontaneous 7 mile run last night with a great pace. The weather was just too nice to stay inside! I wasn't even sore this morning like I expected to be. I guess my body is finally getting used to this running thing:rotfl::banana:

Did my 9 miler this Sunday and my knee is still sore. Supposed to do 4.5 tonight . . . do I do it, and see if the uncomfortableness goes away? I have to do 10 this Sunday to stay on schedule. Higdon's Half Intermediate Plan has no taper!

First not sure what sore is or how it is sore. A safe play is to go through the day and see how your knee feels after a full day of motion. If you can, ice is a couple times during the day. Pain/sore is hard to describe long distance but if you are worried because of the level of pain pre-run then scratch the run. Better to rest another day and pick up training later. If you feel no pain then head out for the run.

It's not a real definitive answer but you will know this PM what you should do.

How long has the knee hurt?
How old are the shoes?
Do you do any leg workouts?
Does the knee hurt all the time? more when heading down stairs?
Where is the hurt?

Does anyone have any idea how the relay handoff is going to work? I can't imagine the logistics of trying to find your partner when everyone is running at different paces, etc.

I don't know for sure, but I believe there's some sort of check in system, where if you're the second runner, your team number will come up on a screen when your partner is close to the handoff area, and you meet them there.

Ok, I began this thread after signing up the very first day...and I am happy to return! lol

All I can say is I have been busy with 2 teenagers and a preschooler and my focus has not been on myself.

So I am going to go back and catch up!

Hi Everyone!! (I guess I should have started with that.....:)

I am not a runner, but hope to do a walk/run/jog/walk plan....most recent walk was 7 miles in 98 min..roughly 14 minutes a mile...
My first 1/2....with roughly 7 weeks left to event....

I did read abt how Disney Endurance "discourages" headphones, but if I dont have my playlist going on my Sansa......yikes! lol

Cant wait to read what everyone has been up to here:)

and maybe some bath wipes&deodorant;)

And maybe one of these and a curtain... ;)

I want to start off this post with a disclaimer:

None of this is a sure thing!

We have some friends who were going to do the half marathon relay with us. They have recently run into some financial difficulties, and may not be able to join us after all. They called Disney to see if they could get a refund on their registration or transfer it to another race, but were told no. Disney did tell them that they could however transfer their bibs to other racers but those racers would have to run under their (our friends) names, not their own. They are still trying to decide what to do. Much will depend on what kind of price they can find for airfare. That being said, I told them I would put up a post here to see if there would be anyone who might have wanted to run the race as a relay but was unable to register in time. I can't guarantee that this will happen because they may still decide to go, but I just wanted to see if there would be any interest.

FYI ~ There are some great sales out there for summer running clothes. I've been looking for a new outfit to wear for the W&DH and was pleasantly surprised by all the discounted prices. Many of my favorite websites have good prices too: Roadrunner Sports, Running Warehouse (use code WISHD for team discount) and for women only, Athleta has cute items.

:woohoo::woohoo: Happy shopping :woohoo::woohoo:

Glad to have you back, thank you so much for starting this thread :goodvibes

I know Disney says they discourage it, but I hope its not a big deal cause I have to have my ipod playing - especially with some disney music on it :thumbsup2 Most races I have participated in have this disclaimer and really just want you to be aware of whats going on around you, hope thats disney's take on it too!!

I was hoping you would respond!

I am going to skip tonight and hopefully head out early in the morning before work (even though I dread morning runs...lol!)

My knee only really started to hurt during the last couple miles of my 9 mile long run on Sunday...the furthest distance I have done since last January.

My shoes are about a week or 2 old. I guess it could be them?

It hurts when going down stairs the most but are also noticeably "there" after sitting for any period of time.

This is the knee I have had 3 surgeries on - but reconstruction was a good 10 years ago and no substantial pain (other than the basic arthritic kind) since then.

Could be shoes, technique or just tired and not following good kenematics. The headed downstairs issue can indicate patellar femoral syndrome or runners knee. Obviously a doct or is going to have first hand knowledge of what he feels and sees. I would give it some time and see if you bounce back.

If not see what the doc says and if runners knee see if he can direct you to a sports oriented PT clinic. They can and will be able to help with any musclar imbalance that you may have established .

Finally, if the pain persists I would see a doc before heading to Walgreen's or other store and purchase an over the counter band, sleeve or brace. These should only be used like one would a crutch. Only if pre-scribed or if you are so near the end of training and coming into an event that they help get you to the line.

Hope this helps

so as a first time 1/2 marathon participant...when capacity is full...how many bodies are we talking??
I did some research on other Disney races, and it appeard there were abt 10K participants for the Princess one this year.

I wonder how many family and friends at that after party then?!

I did learn the other day when talking with a Disney Endurance CM they are planning the "BIG" merchandise reveal at the Expo
I wanted a training shirt for Wine & dine....so wondering what they will have!

Did everyone order the pins?

Back to the important stuff..how is everyone doing training wise?

I took yesterday off after my 7 miles on Monday....am just going to do cicruit training today...and just a couple miles on the treadmill.

Training is OK here - up to 28 miles per week, still with a long run of 10. I have a 5k and a 10 mile race this weekend.

THAT is awesome...I am sustaining abt 15 miles per week! I need to get on active and see if there are any events coming up in the near future around m area! Its been awhile since my last 5K!

I have to admit, I plan on having mine with me as well...
I only plan on using it in those long empty stretches. Disney races have their music going with a lot of activity but those difficult and lonely times I need the boost.. I also know the people I am running with are going to be way ahead of me so no chance of their support..:lmao:

I am a slow and steady turtle!!:goodvibes
