Inaugural Disney Wine&Dine**1/2 Marathon** Post Race Discussion!

I definately agree...the humidity has been AWFUL here! It's at least in the upper 90th percentile every day! The temps haven't helped out much either. I did all three of my runs last week on the Treadmill! Our outside run on Saturday was disgusting! lol I hate this weather! Hope it's not like this in October in Florida! It doesn't start cooling off for us here until November usually!

Think of it as building a tool box for the race. You are gaining strength in this weather as your body deals with the run and the extra work of shedding heat. It build the mental tools as you create work around tools for tough stretches in the race.

But it is tough when the temps are 85 at 5:30 with near 100% humidity.

85 at 5:30pm with 100% humidity? That would be a cool front for us. Last night at 8:00pm, we were still at 100 although I think the humidity was a little lower at that time.

I got out and did a 10 mile walk yesterday. I was soaking wet when I finished. The bad thing about walking is that you're out there a lot longer. :crazy2:

Like Charles said, I'm hoping this will make me stronger for the DL & W&D races.

Our dew points (in MI) have been consistently in the 70's with heat in the mid 80's - translation = feels like it's in the 90's. You can literally feel the moisture in the air. Lake Michigan water temps are in the upper 70's, now that's warm!

I officially know what it would be like to live in FL.

Just remind me of this when I'm whining about the ice, cold, and snow because if those lake temps don't come down we are going to get HAMMERED with lake effect and it's going to be a doozy of a winter...

I think I may have shin splints now. Not quite sure, today is a rest day so I guess I'll find out more tomorrow when I go out.

Kudos to all of you working it out on the treadmill! It's so awful boring and mentally I just struggle severely.

Hi everyone!:wave2:

I'm now down 40+ pounds:cool1: and the training is going OK...My longest run yet is 3.8 miles..well more of a walk/run..I'm doing the couch to 10K program :)

Awesome job, this is great progress :goodvibes I am a beginner myself and it being a disney race and all has really pushed me to train harder :goodvibes

going to do a 6.5 miler today.. I am a slow runner @ about 13 min. miles.

I know I can probably walk that fast but I really want to run the entire race, even if I am running with the walkers..

Glad the humidity broke here, it is lovely.

I had surgery on my ankle in December and wore the surgical compression stockings for some time when I started training. I tried a couple of the compression sleeves marketed for runners and thought the amount of compression was a joke compared to the medical ones.

IMHO, I would purchase the medical grade compression stockings. They come in white, black, nude etc....They are less expensive (bought mine on ebay) and work better!

I also wore them when my shins were bothering me and they worked great to help support the muscle around the calf.

Good luck with your training!

gre8 idea, thanks!

I might have to see what the price of a car would be for the week..it may end up being worth it for me to do that maybe. My travel plans have been back and forth, because I just started a new job and my travel partner DBF has started a new job recently as well. So it is stressing me out some that things are up in the air still!

The 84 would be the year I was born, but please do not let age fool you, Im like the tortise and the hare - slow and steady wins the race :rotfl: or at least finishes it! :lmao:

Well I'm w/ you --slow & steady! Two turtles named Shannon! Lmao!

AND--I just got Fri & Sat booked @ AKV, havnt decided on Sun yet. I fgure I can get to the start @ ESPN easy enough via bus jumping. Then I'll cab it back after the party.

Anyone staying @ AKV wanna share a cab back?

So just curious, how is everyone who is NOT staying at a host resort getting to & from the race?

Not sure how I'm getting there. I am staying at the Beach Club. Anyone else staying at the BC wanna share a cab?

Getting back will be the easy part. The Beach Club is a 3 minute walk from the International Gateway! :thumbsup2

Isn't BC is a host resort???! We made reservations at YC when YC was listed as a host resort (ages ago!), but they changed to BC so my friend and my DD are wondering how they're going to get to the start. :confused3

I'll be waiting for y'all at the After Party!! :woohoo:

It is? Sweet! :woohoo: I had no idea. Thanks a bunch for the heads up!

If your friends are staying at the YC are they allowed to walk over and catch the bus? I wonder how strict they are, because technically I'm staying at the Beach Club Villas. Guess I'll be calling tomorrow!

Yeppers the BC is a host location and yes you can walk from the other Epcot resorts to the BC for a bus.... I am walking from the BWV.

You can get a host bus from BC or BWI.

Do we know if the gateway will be open post party?

Good catch....the BWI is a new add. Saves a little walking!

I have nothing official but we were told that it was open for those who would be purchasing post party tix - only assuming they would let them out the same gate.

I am also ready for some cooler weather. Our heat index has been hitting 110 most days and it is miserable. We have been been doing our long runs starting around 7:30 pm and have taken a small but bright flashlight with us. Once the sun goes down, it is a lot more comfortable. We did 7 miles yesterday and it was great.

School starts back tomorrow, and I am a teacher, so life is about to get a little bit crazier. I am ready to go back, but it will add another challenge to the scheduling.

I read there is a "baggage drop off" site at the beginning of the race. Since the race ends at a different location than where we start, how are we to collect our belongings? Just curious:confused:

Thanks

Not to worry - Disney will take it to the new location. :thumbsup2 I'm not sure what the setup will be but they will tell us in advance.

They will transport it from the start to the finish. A lot of the point to point races use either FedEx or UPS trucks for their bag drops. The trucks are separated by either last name or bib number and after the race starts they just close up, drive to the finish, and open back up for pickup.

Just make sure you don't put anything valuable (like a cell phone, camera, etc) in the bag to be transported to the finish! They tell you this in the race instructions as well, but at the Everest race last year, the place where they transported the bags to for post-race pickup was out in the open and everything got DRENCHED. Even inside two layers of sealed bags, a lot of people's stuff got ruined. (Not Disney's fault - they specifically tell you this in the race instructions - but just FYI!)

I've always found bag pickup after the race to be relatively quick (there's occasionally a small line) and painless though.

Hopefully its a truck....in the past (early half marathons) it was rental school busses. You dropped your bag off with a volunteer in the bus corresponding to your bib number. Then at the end picked up your bag from the same bus. The seats acted as a sorting mechanism. Usually worked well.

The concern is a lack or real estate near the end. I am betting the old Millenium building is the place where bags will be collected. Regardless, I am planning on having my DW be a sherpa for me. I will not need anything at the start but will need dry clothing at the end.
